AZGFD out of line? Closes 34a bear hunt, and then reopens it???
AZLance replied to AZBearhunter's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
How hard can it be to count to Two? I too know a guy who used some of his vacation time yesterday and today to try and hunt the last two days. -
Ok, Unit 33 is a Disaster! I have hunted there my entire hunting carreer and guided there for whitetail for many years. And yes, 33 is a great unit where you can get away from other hunters and most of my hunts I have never seen another hunter, and in 22 years of hunting and guiding, I have only seen Game and Fish 3 times (once in 1993 had WM Jon McGehee check my deer on the drive home, Once ran into WM Katie Pruss while scouting back in 1993, and once in 2000 had WM Bob Fink come to camp while I was guiding). As For WM Martin Guerena, I have heard he was assigned to this unit for several years now, but have never seen him. So lets look at the numbers for unit 33: (I got these tag numbers and hunt success numbers from the 2014 Hunt Reg booklet) Oct Jr. Hunt 151 tags --- 64% = 97 bucks taken / 2 October General Hunt 700 tags --- 37% = 259 bucks taken November General Hunt 700 tags --- 26% = 182 bucks taken November Jr. Hunt 176 tags --- 38% = 67 bucks taken / 2 Late November Gen. Hunt 700 tags --- 35% = 245 bucks taken November Muzzle Hunt 200 tags --- 11% = 22 bucks taken / 2 December Gen Hunt 50 tags --- 60% = 30 bucks taken Total Whitetail bucks taken in 2013 = 828 bucks taken ( I divided the Jr. hunts and Muzzleloader hunt in half due to it being any antlered deer) I know 33 is a large unit, but a big part of it is Saguaro National Park. Im not sure any unit can sustain killing 800+ bucks a year. And these numbers I provided above have been pretty consintant for the past few years. I understand that they did a survey, and the hunters spoke and wanted more opportunity. But for the love of God, put the deer as the priority. Like I said, I have hunted this unit for 22 years, and I have noticed a big decline in the deer numbers. And its not just WT, Mule deer herds that used to be large, are non-existent in some areas. The WT buck to doe ratio used to be pretty good at 4:1, but nowadays glassing up 100 does for every buck is crazy. This cant be sound management. The WMs need to speak up, dont be afraid to go against management if you see something wrong. Promotion at the expense of the wildlife cant be your only goal in life. Yes, Hunters want more opportunity, but the opportunity to actually see a buck is dwindling. I think I can speak for most hunters, yes we want more opportunity, but not just the opportunity to go camping and see no deer. P.S. I have never seen Tony Mandile in the field either...

You guys are really gonna piss off Tony Mandile with all this negative Game and Fish talk... this(online draw) could become huntings next perversion.

Takes a poacher to know a poacher I guess. This is disgusting! Why am I not surprised to find a grip and grin photo with this guy in it? Reminds me of the cop in Colorado that got caught and convicted of poaching and tried to influence public officials, destroy evidence, you know Shawn Wagner stuff! If I ever get stopped by this moron in the field I'm calling the County Sheriff immediately. I'll let them sort it out! I'm going to .make that picture my avatar photo

i only put in last day, always will. getting a 2 bonus pt desert bighorn is all the superstition ill ever need. got in at about 6:55pm last day when i was living in pinetop. Its a gamble, but I can respect that. I'll take all the luck I can get. But I think AZGFD needs to post a disclaimer in the regs and on their website stating that there will be no deadline exceptions for website malfunctions. It might encourage people to get their apps in sooner. Why don't they just fix it?
-
I filled out my application last week and had a lot of issues as well it took me over three and a half hours to get my apps in last week. I was trying to put one of my sons friends in for deer today and ran into this issue. Hope I can get his app in...first time hunter.

Recent Jaguar Pics and other critters down south
AZLance replied to arizonaelkhunter's topic in The Campfire
Not a Jaguar. Most likely a colorful bobcat. As 520Hunt mentioned above it does not have a long tail like a Jaguar or Ocelot would. It appears to have a small Bobbed tail as most bobcats have. Also a close look at the spots and you will see that they are solid spots. jaguars like in the picture Patrick posted above have spots that are circled in black and a darker shade of orange/yellow in the middle. Lastley the size is the biggest giveaway. The size is more consistent with a bobcat. The Jaguar that is roaming southern AZ right now is very similar in size to a large tom mtn lion. Secondly game and fish is the last people I would tell about it. Remember what happened to the last jaguar they found... the! University of Arizona is the one currently running the Jaguar Project for the USFWS. -

AZLance replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
This is begging to be worse than the Obamacare website... -
I'm looking to get a new gps, and just looking for your recommendations for something that works well, and finds satellites quickly, and stores a lot of waypoints.

I just hope the closure lasts thru the early elk hunts... can't wait to see all the people calling for closures to change their mind and start complaining about their rights being violated. -

What I was told is that the Coronado and the Coconino were already in the planning stages and it is just a matter of time. Last time they did it, a couple of forests closed, then the rest followed suit quickly after. Pray for rain! -
Wearing the rubber off of your boots will help... these are a few that I found this year that are not on maps...

My bad Edge, I swore the topic of this thread that you started was "State Land Trust Question". State Land rules says you must only be 1/4 mile away from a residence. Sorry to ruffle your feathers.

No such thing as a 1 mile rule... I love it when people make stuff up!
