They were drinking from puddles last weekend. I bet you already know that. Where were you guys seeing elk in 7W? We hunted mulies last weekend in 7W. The deer were up high but, the hunters were mostly roadbound. We saw a few elk but not as much as other years any reports will be appreciated.

I unsuccesfully hunted this unit for bulls four years ago. Everything that I "knew" about where the elk were when I scouted meant nothing by Thanksgiving. We hunted on the North side of the Mts. I stupidly kept trying to find them up high but it seems that the sucessfull hunters were mostly way lower. Be adaptable not stubborn. Bisbee

Your story wasn't to long. We are all hunters here and relish the details. Youth hunts are so much fun. My youngest son just turned 18 last month so I wont see any more youth hunts for a while. I lived in S.V. 76-97 and just across the valley since then. I have hunted, hiked, camped and scouted the Huachuca,s ALOT. And since I'm not hunting there this year. I believe that the Canelo area is the best that I know about.
