Pretty much any unit in the state would be good for a meat hunt. As mentioned above check draw stats on fish & game website lots of units you could draw with 0 points

I'm old school I use a compass & topo map. I carry a gps but rarely use it I like looking at the map

I have Cabelas Meindl Perfekt they fit nice & feel good on the feet. Little stiff at first, but they break in nice.

There are some pretty decent pop ups for sale on craigslist for reasonable price. They are like anything else if you take care of them & maintain them they will last. I picked up a used Jumping Jack for $1200 & love it!! I can have it set up & ready in 10 minutes. The Jumping Jack isn't like a normal pop up. Its basically a canvas tent on a trailer, but it gets me up off the ground & I can haul my quad or ranger on top of it when its closed.

Ok I posted a comment about a buddy of mine who drew early archery as his 3rd choice last year so I'm going to tell the scenario. Like the title says you can believe it or not!! Both are residents, and they put in together as a party every year. 2010 my buddy & his nephew put in for 6a muzzleloader as a party they both draw 1st choice. 2013 my buddy & his nephew put in for 6a early archery as a party they both draw 1st choice 2016 my buddy & his nephew put in for as a party 5b -1st choice 4b - 2nd choice 8 - 3rd choice 6a - 4th choice 22 - 5th choice Draw results come out & they both drew unit 8 3rd choice. NO is was not for cow either!! First thing I say is BS there is no way your going to draw unit 8 3rd choice. Season comes & I meet them in unit 8 telling him BS on 3rd choice. He new this question was coming so he shows me his confirmation receipt from fish & game with the exact choices above. So it in fact did happen which is unbeleivable!!! So you can say BS to it all you you want I was there & I saw the proof, they are both 2 lucky guys even they couldn't believe it!! They both had 2 points. So there you have it beleive it or not doesnt matter to me I know what happened I was there.

So basically I am being called a liar!! Well I am telling you what I saw on his confirmation & I was on the hunt with him!! It really doesn't matter what some of you think to be true. When I hear stories like that I seriously wonder if the person lost track of which choice they put that hunt or made a mistake and switched two hunt numbers when applying. As far as I understand there are no early archery tags that make it past the 1&2 pass of the draw. That is what I thought until he showed me his confirmation receipt with his choices, I couldn't believe he drew his 3rd choice!! I said there was know way he drew early archery 3rd choice & said he made a mistake on his app, but he showed me the proof.

Putting in for early archery. I had a buddy who drew same tag last year with 2 points & it was his 3 choice. How the heck he pulled that off I will never know. Oh well I'm still hunting this year just have to change states is all. I will change my screen name to ain'tgoinhuntninaz LOL.

Another year the tag gods have crapped on me!!! Its very frustrating hearing about guys pulling back to back tags or drawing with 0 to 2 points. Oh well I will play the dang game next year & hope for the best!!! Good luck to all the lucky tag holders hunt hard & enjoy it!!!!

Congrats on your rifle. I have a savage axis in 243. I ditched the bushnell scope & added Weaver picatinny rail, Weaver rings & Redfield 4 x 12 x 40 accu range scope. Painted the stock , added a Timney trigger & Harris bipod. These are good shooters no matter what anybody says, nothing wrong with a Savage!!
