Removing rubber coating from savage stock
goinhuntn replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
GreyGhost I had the same problem. I bought The LRH & the day I got it home I peeled the savage stickers off the stock & the rubber coating came with it. I had intentions on custom painting the stock anyway just not that soon. I sanded the stock with a vibrating sander than cleaned it real good as the rubber coating gums up on the stock so you need to clean the piss out of it. I primed the stock real good than used textured spray paint than a clear coat for final. the stock came out awesome & it looks like a custom after market stock. I took it to the gun shop where I had purchased the rifle, and they wanted to know where I got the custom stock when i told them I did myself they couldn't believe it. If I could figure out to post pics I would. The whole process took about 3 days as I let the primer & paint cure. maybe have 6 hours total in it. -

I am just starting to get into long range shooting so I have zero knowledge to offer you, but I will give you my setup. Savage LRH in 300 win mag, scope base xtreme hardcore gear 20 moa picatinny rail, xtreme hardcore ranger rings (30mm) vortex 6x24x50 viper pst scope in first focal plane & harris bipod. I got a smoking deal on the Savage LRH $675.00 brand new out the door. Same gun shop has for $1035 before tax & fees now. I jumped on that rifle when I seen the price cuz I know what they retail for. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but going to soon. I have about $1800 into it.

Hunting water depends on the weather that time of year. If its a dry winter than I say yes to the waterhole. If we have a wet winter as predicted water sources will be everywhere. I suggest try to find a high point in your area & glass, glass, glass as soon as you find em put em to bed than the stalk is on.

Question about hours and pay as a salaried employee
goinhuntn replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
Not sure what your relatives finances are, but I would have to take a long hard look to see if it was worth it!! I am in business for myself & I work long hours, but I make sure I take at least one day off to relax. I was a salaried employee before & I missed a lot of my kids growing up. I would never do it again life is way to short to do nothing but work!!! -
I wear Rocky snake boots mine are like wearing tennis shoes!! I bought a good pair of under armour heat gear knee high socks really helps my feet from sweating. The way I look at it $130 bucks for a little insurance is better than thousands in medical bills or even death!! Getting bit especially if your far from medical attention isn't worth it to me. My feet might get a little hot, but that's better than getting bit!!
