Thanks wildwoody. I'm stuck at work today, but heading out about 2am for the weekend. I'll bring my caller along to try it out.
-
Very cool.

How do you use the coyote call for shock gobbles? Any specific volume or time of day that works best? I don't want to try and spook them.
-
Any updates from 6A recently? Are they still vocal?
-
Well I finally decided it was time to get a real tent, so I just ordered a Kodiak Canvas Tent. I got the 10x14 "deluxe" model. Can't wait to get it and test it out!

Congrats! What a great memory!

It seems like he couldn't let, so I'd bet he's still close with that herd. I knew there was no way he was not coming back at the end. -
I've got one that is affected by the recall. I filled out the form and will send it back. It's my backup rifle so I'm not too worried about turnaround time from them. I'd assume somewhere in the 4-6 week range.

Yes. Drive back into an area off a 2-track for several miles, get out and hike around. Use some topos to locate areas with plenty of water and ridge lines.

I was up in 6a this weekend and called back and forth with a Tom for about 30 minutes. Only one I heard though. What are you guys using as a locator call at night?

Didn't draw 6A Early Archery Bull or 11M with 5 Elk points, 6 for next year.

PM sent. Good luck!

So I finally got drawn for my first turkey tag, and will be hunting the April 25th hunt in 6A. I was wondering if an over/under 3" shotgun will work, or if I'll need a pump or semi auto for turkey? I'm new to this whole thing and would like some opinions based on experience. Also, if anyone has any pointers to get me started in 6A, I'd love to hear them. I have no idea where to start as the G&F info for this hunt/unit is even more generic than usual.
-
I was thinking this exact same thing this morning. Based on the recent twitter post by G&F it seems like they're just going to wait until the date they've given, and follow suit for all future draws.

Wow, that's amazing. Thanks for the tip!

Anybody been fishing at Lynx Lake in the past couple weeks? I'm taking the family camping there this weekend and need to get my 3 year old daughter on a fish. We've had some bad luck in her fishing career and I'd love to get her one. She couldn't even catch one at the G&F expo fishing pond for kids last week. I haven't had much luck in my experience fishing Lynx, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

This. Kaibab has better color and sharpness. I have moved up to the SLC 15 and it's a whole different ball game.

Missing Malaysian Jet

Makes theoretical sense. Wouldn't the pilots have had enough time to make a distress call, before any fire disabled the comm link? I don't know any truth to the story, but it was originally stated that the transponders went out around 20 minutes apart? Considering the redundant systems on sophisticated aircraft, I wonder how a fire would take them out that quickly? That is a good question that I don't have the answer to. I'm just relaying intel. I do know that during flight training you are taught over and over again, as it was pounded into my head, AVIATE, NAVIGATE, COMMUNICATE. The very last thing you do is communicate, only after you have the current issue/emergency under control. Maybe they were killed while trying to get it under control? I don't know. -
Missing Malaysian Jet

Back to the original topic... One of my good friends works at Honeywell and is part of the investigation team team for them on the missing plane. Honeywell makes all the flight controls and computer systems for Boeing, so it's their equipment, hence the reason they're involved. What Honeywell has assumed as the reason for the missing plane is as follows: During flight, there was an in flight electrical fire, which took out the comms and transponder. The pilots took immediate action and sent the plane into a dive as to put out the fire (that's what you're trained to do as a pilot in case of fire. During my flight training I learned the same thing. Fire? Dive.) The fire possibly took out the oxygen system and pressurization system, or the smoke from the fire caused lack of oxygen in the plane's cabin. The lack of oxygen/presence of smoke killed everyone on board. There was also probably an error in the way the flight plan was put into the autopilot (which, apparently happens all the time, but the pilots fix it on the fly in flight). Once the pilots (and everyone else on board) were killed, the autopilot then tried to correct for the abnormal condition of flight (the diving / loss of altitude) until it got back to the specified flight altitude and heading. The problem was that the next waypoint in the system was incorrect and tripped up the autopilot program turning the plane 180 degrees and flying itself at elevation into the Indian Ocean until it ran out of gas. That's the working theory that the "experts" in Honeywell are using to determine black box operating life, etc. It's kind of boring after hearing the other theories, but it does make sense. -
Nothing here. Always next year.

Congrats 6ANut! I'm pumped for you. It's a life changing experience.

Yep. Brother in law got called due to a fiasco from the ORIGINAL deadline. Somebody else mentioned this but while filling out the application it glitched out and said that he couldn't fill out a duplicate app. Who knows how long it could take to reach all those folks. This is going to take awhile. I don't expect cards to start being hit until the 24th, if we're lucky.
-
Sounds like the charging of cards will be delayed as well then. Bummer, I thought today was going to be the day.

This year for the javelina hunt I invited my friend Sean who has never hunted before. With his first tag in hand, the hunting of the elusive unit 17 javelina began. Long story short, we got into them Sunday morning and after a couple decent chances, he was able to fill his tag. Needless to say, he's hooked. Can't wait for deer season!
