Good luck! Can't wait for the photos.

I've got the 17 18 19 20a tag. Got one on the general hunt in 17 last year, which I am hoping to do again this year. I'm thinking of trying my archery luck out in 20a this year for a deer/javelina hunt.

I picked up my 2014 tag at the Carefree office last week. No issues and no line.

So I went by Game & Fish yesterday to pick up my javelina tags and 2014 archery deer tag, and while I was there I picked up the last copy they had of their catchment tank map book. I've heard about these books for a couple years and finally remembered to ask. Good thing I did, this thing is cool!

I'm curious what radios everyone uses while hunting to communicate with others in your party? I have the Motorolla Pro Pack, which really suck. You would think for $150 they'd be half way decent, but they're not. These are FRS radios. Does anyone use VHF radios or MURS radios? I've heard those should be better for outdoors from 3-5 miles.

Although I will say I was disappointed that there's not a single one listed for 36B.

Ya it only lists the game and fish catchment tanks, not all the tanks in the unit. I like the fact that it gives me some water info that's not on a standard topo. Makes me feel like I have an advantage. Ha.

I'm looking to get a set of Sitka gear in the open country pattern. I'm pretty set on the Mountain Pants, but can't decide which jacket would be best. I'm looking at the Cloudburst, 90%, or Jetstream. Anybody have some insight on any of these?

That's now illegal as it contains doe urine. Too bad to because I've read good things about it.

So I finally shot my new bow this weekend, which was also my first time ever shooting a bow. All I can say is I'm hooked! It's a blast. Can't wait to try my luck in January. Any pointers for a first time Archery hunter?
-
Very good question. I too would love to hear a G&F response, although we won't get one on here. I could see there being an issue if the shooter/tag holder is no where around and there are 4 other guys packing out an elk with his tag on it. If I were the warden, I'd be suspicious.

Congrats are in order. That bull's amazing, and those memories are even more amazing.

All great ideas. Thanks for the pointers. I'm quickly realizing this is a totally different ball game than rifle hunting.

I'd go out just south of Las Vegas Ranch. There's alot of country out there to shoot a long ways.

I have this same stuff and LOVE IT!

Has anybody shot one? What do you think? I want an accurate little rimfire to plink around with. Anybody seen ammo for these anywhere? I can't find any.

You need to be licensed to transmit on the 2m HAM frequencies, but you can listen in and transmit on the MURS and FRS frequencies without license. FCC only regulates transmission on the HAM side, anyone can listen in.True, but these radios are FCC Certified for use under Part 90, which requires a license. The radios are NOT certified for use under FCC Part 95 which is required for use on GMRS and FRS frequencies, so it is not legal to use them for GMRS or FRS. The output power of these radios is also more than allowed for GMRS and FRS. If all you need is MURS and FRS, then buy the many basic radios out there without possibly violating FCC rules with the Baofeng. http://wb7tjd.org/wiki/FRS,_GMRS_and_MURS_(Radio_Services_under_FCC_Part_95_Rules)#BaoFeng_UV5R_is_Part_90_Type_Certified You're correct. Thanks.

Very cool. I use the living daylights out of Google Earth for scouting and planning. I also use it as a hunting journal to track where I see stuff. I use the topo overlays and they are a huge help.- 10 replies

Good luck out there Cody! Hopefully you'll be able to tag something.

Unbelievable! What great bucks, all in one day. One day I'd love to go on one of these hunts.

I'm going to try the Baofeng UV-5R Plus. I just ordered 2 and a pair of upgraded antennas. I'll post up a review when I get a chance to test them out.
