And remember if you take a elk to a processor full of bone you pay them hanging weight (.90-1$ a pound) for bone they are chucking out as they chuckle to themselves. One more reason to DIY. That walk in will pay for itself in no time if your family kills a lot.

Way different feel and shape. A skinners curved blade could work for some, but actual breaking down off the bone(boner) nothing beats it. I have butchered-processed javelina to a giraffe with an ostrich thrown in now and then. If you never have used a real skinner you don't know what you are missing.

Having used the stiff boner and the flexible boner I have settled on the semi-stiff. My friends wife had to go to the Knife store at Arrowhhead( if any one remembers that store) to pick up knives one time for work. She never batted an eye and asked for them by name.

With that being said I was gifted a rmef buck combo skinner-boner. I have done 3 elk with that set and have been pleased http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/img/products/large/buck_knives_paklite_trophy_kit_1469701_1.jpg Mine doesnt have the gut hook. for processing at home nothing beats the semi stiff boner. I have the same skinner i started with 20 years ago. The others have been replaced multip[le times but they have boned out hundreds of animals.

It's only a semi stiff boner so its all good.

Move the guts for the fish only. I did 2 cow elk this year on the ground. Took one hour start to finish for each. A real skinner and semi stiff boner. A retractable razor knife with break away blades does serve a purpose sometimes. But 4 inches of razor sharp scalpel is just stupid imo. I'm sure I've butchered more beef and hogs than most here and the same knives used for that are my field knives as well. Plenty of how to videos online. Javelina to buffalo its the same process.

After spending 10 days chasing bulls in 7west I can't describe nicely how upset I am with the amount of tracks on all the closed roads. You entitled(lazy a$$) hunters disgust me. If i wasnt a better person there would of been lots guys walking back to camp. Apparently I have the only copy in existence of the closed forest roads. You are the illegal aliens of hunting. Monday rant complete...

Shorter the brace height the less forgiving on your form it will regardless of technology.7" is a safe number. Look for an elite 35 used and you will be well pleased.

Well take your wife on her first archery elk hunt and walk miles in the dark daily to get f@cked by side byes and diesels. Then tell me your feelings. I will continue not to break the law dumb as it is. I might not see it happen but Karma is a B!itch.....

I walked thru cabelas with my wife who has many archery kills but has her first elk tag this year(friday bull). We went and looked at all the full body elk mounts and discussed shot placement from all angles, took some pictures for her to remind herself. A good anatomy lesson for her. She has 3 peep sights on her bow
