Casey's did a great job for me last year. If I ever get another elk in the Flagstaff area, it will be headed to Casey's too. A elk is to valuable of an asset to take it to a shop who has more than a few negative reviews IMO.

Don't forget to check those shotgun plugs.
Hoss50 replied to PRDATR's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I had the plug problem 2 years ago. I forgot I had taken it out for something and my gun just kept taking shello on opening morning. I sacrificed one of my ballpoint pens from work. Gutted it and cut the body down to the right length to make the gun legal. I am getting ancy. I need to get in the field, and I love dove season. I just hope my spot heats up a little more this season. Harley -
Also, remember to stretch your cable before the first real pull. A winch cable needs to have a load put on it to stretch it before you give it heck. Hook the truck to something real heavy or that it can't pull. Spool out most (not all) of the line and Pull the cable tight and give it some strain but don't go crazy. Spool it in and your done.

Also, get a couple 30k straps with loop ends. One 30' and one 6-8 foot. Some 3/4" screw pin Shackles or larger too. A snatched block is a good investment. The 2 biggest tools for offroad recovery are a shovel and high lift jack though. Get a 60" model. Then if your not familiar with it all learn how to use it all safely. Recovery is dangerous work. Don't under estimate just how quick it can go bad.

Warn 12,000lb in a good bumper. Pick a shop you are comfortable with and who's prices seem fair.

Randalls had about 5 boxes of the ELD-X bullets in stock. A bunch of powder too including Retumbo and Rl25.

Recycling cans and plastic bottles
Hoss50 replied to My Rights As An American's topic in The Campfire
At my old house the neighbors next door.did recycling for a living. They collected everything and sorted it into big piles in the backyard. Every few months they would rent the biggest u haul truck and take all the cans and bottles to California and collect all CRV returns on them. They didn't get rich, but I think they did ok. -
Very nice.

I really need to get rock done in my front yard but don't really have the time or desire to do it if I don't have too. Does anyone do this for a living and want to give me a bid? Harley

MIL = mother in law I guess they had a small mud slide north of cortes junction and truck on its lid south bound at the top of the hill coming out of camp verde.
-
Nothing in peoria yet. My MIL is on the 17 south and it has been rain a fair amount.

Did you ever find out about the other stock? Have you shot this rifle much? Is it a good shooter? History?

I am trying to figure out what I should do for a general hunting and skinning knife. I am really looking at the Benchmade saddle mountain skinner but I figure if I am going to pay that price would it be any better to try and find a more custom built knife from a small custom knife maker. I want to make a good investment that I can use for many years and pass to my sons. All I have right now are some general purpose buck 119's that my dad gave me. They are ok, but they didn't make it all the way through skinning my cow elk last year before the needed to be touched up. Any thoughts on what steel and what knives and makers I should look at? Thanks Harley

I ended up with a Benchmade saddle mountain skinner for now. It is a nice knife, and I will keep my eyes open for a nice custom for down the road.

My dad and his buddies pulled a warty deer out of 20a many moons ago. It had a wart partially blocking 1 eye so it ran I circles after the first shot was missed.

very nice work.

.264 win mag is such an underrated classic round that I would lean that way. 6.5-300 weatherby would be fun too though.
-
I want, but I don't need. Great rifle though.
-
Lance, They are the same bolt face. In fact I even use .264 win mag brass or 7mm Rem Mag brass to make my .257 Weatherby brass since I am too cheap to buy real weatherby brass for my .257. I do wish they would do a 130gr .257 caliber HVLD. My rifle loves the 115gr. and it would be nice to get a little more BC and bullet weight out of the quarter bore.
-
I would love a 6.5-300 Weatherby, but I like to shoot my rifles an I know I would burn a barrel out of it if I shoot it like I shoot my 257 weatherby. I know I have at least 700 rounds down the tube on that rifle. I just love to shoot it. I have thought about making my 257 weatherby a 264 weatherby once I shoot the barrel out and have to rebarrel it, but it would basically just be a .264 win mag at that point with a different shoulder and not do a lot more that the 257 would.
-
Yes, I have heard this too. It would be a crazy flat shooter but I would worry about barrel life.
-
I love my 257 weatherby.
-
I am glad I have no justification for another enfield otherwise I would be in trouble. This is a nice rifle and I think the price is very fair.

Pro diesel in phoenix is good too.

The DPF is my bet too but don't mess around with it and get it fixed. Harley
