My dad isn't able to hunt anymore due to his back, so I commandeered his Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Weatherby that sits in the safe. It is to abusive on recoil for fun shooting, so I dropped it off at Axisworks last week. In a few weeks it will be sporting a new muzzle brake, and when I get it back it's old Simmons 44 Mag scope is getting upgraded to a Burris Veracity 3x15x50 FFP scope. I already started brass prep, and hopefully Berger sends me the load data for the 185gr Classic hunters and 210gr HVLD on Monday that I emailed them about. This elk season this 300 weatherby may get the opportunity to put a second cow elk on its record. My dad used it about 20 years ago to take his one and only cow elk in unit 8.

My grandpa has a truck just like (same colors even) this with the 6.9l naturally aspirated diesel in it. I spent some time with him running all over Toledo in it cutting lawns.

Check you PM's. I almost bought 1 but ended up with what I sent you. I bought 1 of those packages about a month ago, and bought 1 more yesterday that is being shipped to me now. Crazy good deal IMO.

Axisworks has my 300 Weatherby right now, and is putting a 3 port horizontal brake on it. He did 2 others for me a couple years ago that turned out great.

Anyone shooting the 6.5 PRC
Hoss50 replied to no worries's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My dad collected old military rifles, and mausers were cheap so I was introduced to 6.5x55 early. He ended up with a sporterized 6.5x55 mauser done by Kimber. It was light and handy and was his favorite deer rifle. That is when I stumbled upon the 6.5 cal bullets pre-6.5CM. I learned how overlooked 264 win mag was, and I always wanted to build a 6.5-06. So far no 6.5-06 or 264 win mags in my safe, but a couple 6.5x55 have followed me home. 6.5 seems to be a sweet spot IMO. it has heavy enough bullets to hunt anything in AZ, and has low recoil for most rounds. -
Anyone shooting the 6.5 PRC
Hoss50 replied to no worries's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well, 6.5x55 is the best round ever...just kidding...maybe... What Hornady has done with the 6.5 CM and is working on with the 6.5 PRC is awesome. It highlights what was often an overlooked bullet size that never got it's due in the US til now. The success has improved bullet selection and availability quite a bit. Drive a high coefficient bullet at a good speed and good results will follow. -
Does anyone have any advice on a good aftermarket stock for a long action weatherby vanguard? I stole my dads 300 weatherby that sits in the back of the safe and took it to Axisworks for a muzzle brake so it doesn't have to sit in the back of the safe anymore. The stock is a super basic stock they sent on the Walmart models. I want to upgrade without breaking the bank. Ideas?

Weatherby Vanguard or Howa 1500 Stock?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
$400+ is probably to much. The rifle barely cost $400. I was looking at stocky and the B&C for under $300 looks interesting. -
I love Rotts. Our old one passed early last year. He was a great dog, and we rescued our current Rott last July. Both are awesome. I have never had better house dog than our Rotts. Your pair are great looking dogs, and good luck with the litter.

Leupold just sent me back my Redfield revolution that my hunting buddy dropped during deer season. They fixed the damaged end cap and got it all fixed up for me for free. I admitted we dropped it and offered to pay to fix it, but they fixed it and sent it back at no charge. They even sent me back a neoprene Redfield scope cover.

Good job. That is a nice looking little project gun.

I have only ever run into 1 in the wild. They are pretty cool. The one I found was working it's way across the river bed at Table Mesa road and it was cool watching him move and make his way across.

Why do you temp me....if it wasn't a long slide I think you would have me hooked.

I wish it was a longbed. I need one in that color. -
I have heard good and bad from people including Lance. On a $2k budget you have lots of options. I just out a Burris Veracity 3x15 on my 257 weatherby and I have high Hope's for it.

Me likey, but no needy... If you ever end up with a Marlin in 32-20 let me know though.

Nice. They have one of my redfield revolution scopes that I am hoping they can fix. They just sent me some scope caps for scope the PO of a VX3 lost too.

I was trying to get him to touch it, but he was scared.

Take the kids out and get them hooked. I took my 5 year year old to this event a couple years ago and he loved it. He caught his first fish there. A nice channel cat. https://www.azgfd.com/free-hook-to-plate-fishing-event-april-6-at-cortez-lake-in-phoenix/

CZ is my vote.

If you are looking for a tuner for those trucks this is a great option. I had this same tuner on my old 98.5 CTD and it really helped that motor bring some extra power that was good useable power.

Hornady has done a great job marketing the new shiny object that everyone has to have, the 6.5 CM being their greatest achievement. I am not real old, but I love the old school that is proven. Give me a 6.5x55 over a 6.5CM, and give me a 264 win mag over a 6.5 PRC. 264 win mag gets it done, and is probably one of the best rounds to never catch on. Brass is available, and if it isn't you can make it out of 7mm Rem Mag brass all day.
