Suggestions on Savage Replacement Barrels
Hoss50 replied to Siwash's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Order now to build later. Most of the barrel manufacturers seem to have a 6+ month waiting list on barrels. Don't sleep on 6.5-06 or 6.5-06AI. Both would be good options on that action. That is what I plan to build someday. -
How do you tell if a barrel has been shot out?
Hoss50 replied to Rock30golf's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Do what Lance and others have said. Also try and check your barrel twist, and maybe try lighter bullets. -
Obo.

Honda generators are pretty darn good. We had an old champion we abused and ran hard. It lasted but was loud and drank gas. The Honda is much quieter and efficient. You pay for that though.

7e can be interesting for sure. 2 years ago in december we went low with success. Last year low was terrible in december.

My 300 win mag is using Nosler brass and it is really nice. My 6.5x55 is going to be using lapua brass when I start working with it. It needs a scope first though.

My first thought is go higher, up in the wilderness area. If it has not gotten cold yet they are still probably up high unless he can find some resident herds down lower.

Fun day today. Thanks for the invite my friend.

H1000 & Hornady 208gr ELDM & 210 Berger HVLD are what I am working with on my rifle. They both show great promise. The 208 ELDM's show great potential, but the Bergers are showing great promise too.

Nice! Congratulations on a job well done.

Seating plugs for 10mm/ .40
Hoss50 replied to fatbastard's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Flare the brass then seat them without crimp. Crimp as a sperate step. I have to do this with alot of magnum pistol ammo. 357, 44, 45lc, etc. If I load it hot I like to make sure I have a good crimp on it. Sometimes the dies will start to crimp before the bullet is fully seated and mess up the round. That is why I now seat that ammo in 2 separate steps. Seat, then crimp. -
Someone needs to let me know where the is... I have a case of shells ready and willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good...

The 22lr was for fun. Today was the first time he has ever shot a gun.

Who wants to let me tag along on a dairy hunt? My desert hunt this morning was sub par, but today was more about getting my 5 year old to go shoot for the first time. He isn't ready to hunt yet, but he took his first shots today with a 22lr and 410 shotgun.

The ADOT twitter page is actually a really good road conditions resource to help you make a decision which way to go.

It took me 7hrs to get to payson one year. I left Friday at 430pm from peoria and we got to payson at 1130pm. It took less time to get from payson to durango colorado that night than from peoria to payson. I got to watch the sun come up over new Mexico that morning...

5 year old is in bed, everything is packed, even if it is a bad fly I have a .22lr packed to take him shooting for the first time.

I would say flip a coin, but when you are in Springerville/Eager make sure to stop at Avery's. Get some good BBQ and a brew. If you talk to Lance, tell him Harley says hello.

I picked up shells and bird stamps. I need to do a quick clean on a couple shotguns and I am ready. I am hoping the birds are thicker than the mosquito's at my normal place. Some years it is the opposite and that sucks.

I'd run them. I have Toyo AT2's and they did ok, but I went back to BFG AT'S last time. I might try these ridge grapplers next.

I have had hunt buddies not be able to find tags, and we have had to stop at G&F for a replacement on the way out of town more than once. I usually pack to a list so I don't usually forget a lot of things I can't live without. The things I have forgotten someone else had or I didn't really need. My buddy got a few shots last year during our late elk hunt. He took 3 shots, all misses because he messed up the range, and then realized his extra ammo was in his pack which he left in the truck... I retrieved them and worked my way to him, but it was too late by the time I got there. We couldn't get another clear shot. My dad did forget shotgun shells 1 year when we were headed out dove hunting. We scrounged a couple boxes from a mom & pop gas station near Wickenburg so we didn't have to drive all the way back to Phoenix.

Hmmmm. That's the opposite of what some folks here have been telling me: find the "I am not going into that deep canyon" and you'll find bulls there. If it stays warm you might find some, but last year white horse was covered in snow. You will find alot of hunt pressure, that is for sure.

Cabelas 12x20 Alaknak Tent with Vestibule and stove.
Hoss50 replied to jcarter's topic in Classified Ads
That's the real deal tent setup. If I did more long camping trips or cold weather trips that would be awesome. -
In december I doubt you will find many bulls around saddle mountain and white horse hills. They will have already started to scatter to lower elevation. You will find lots of hunters and a few cows.
