Great gun in a great round. Someone needs this.

Ryan or ryan at comfort experts. Tell him Harley with Carrier sent you.

The companies know that alot of the rounds they develop will fail, or at least not be huge success stories. 6.5 creedmoor fills a nice gap that had little commercial success prior in the 6.5 caliber. 264 win mag should have been an amazing success, but it never caught on. It deserves alot of credit though because it still hasn't faded into oblivion because of how awesome a round it is. 6.5x55 is the same way. It does everything the 260 or 6.5 creed will do and has been doing it for over 120 years. It's downfall is that it doesn't fit a short action and that factory ammo is downloaded because of the old military rifles. That said my next rifle will be a 6.5x55 from CZ. Harley

Most of the new stuff doesn't do anything any better than something before it. They just need something to market as the next big thing to help generate sales.

Muzzle Brake for Savage 11/111 Lady Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor

Phoenix Custom Rifle wouldn't do my buddies Marlin Xl7 either. That is when I got ahold of AxisWorks. -

Axisworks did my Savage & my buddies Marlin XL7. -
My Pandora is fun to listen to. It has quite a range of things. It can jump from George Straight to Pantera to NWA to Jason Boland to __________. I have been listening to more punk rock lately though specifically with Dropkick Murphys, Social D, Rancid, Lars Fredrickson & the Bastards, etc. Harley

Ready my response in the Unit 10 thread. Same applies here. The one thing I will, and it applies in all units, but especially in unit 8 is get away from the roads. There are tons of road hunters and the farther from them you are the better you will be. Also, don't just scout high in the pines. If it is cold they can and will be down in the junipers.

What azelkhunter2 said. Cold and windy. Last years cow elk hunt in 7e was just that on a few of the days. It was cutting even heavy clothes. I messed up twice and got my base layer sweaty and I was colder than I have ever been before. I spent a winter in North Dakota working outside so that should say something. 2 years ago started of cold in 7E and warmed up quite a bit through the hunt though. It was in the 50's by closing day. Gotta be ready for anything on those hunts.

Are there "guide" fees or any other fees to do these hunts on the res?

Nice garden. I am waiting on my artichokes to make a come back. They were going great this year, and while I was out of town recently aphids ravaged them. I had to cut them way back and work on getting rid of them. They are coming back, but if I didn't have the aphid problem, I think I would have already had artichokes.

Mine is stored in my garage. I have only had it a little less than 2 years, but it is doing fine so far. My garage is north facing so it isn't as hot as some probably get though. I wouldn't store it in my attic, or in a storage shed though because they get super hot. I love my 10x14 Kodiak. For anyone serious about getting a real tent that will last for years, look as spending the money and invest in a good tent.

Muzzle Brake for Savage 11/111 Lady Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor

It will just limit the brakes you can viably use. On my buddies pencil barrel 3006 we had to use a different brake brand than I used on my heavy barrel 300 win mag. -

Factory 300 Win Mag. Who has the best?
Hoss50 replied to Chris's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Howa makes a good rifle. They build the weatherby vanguard as well that is the same as the howa 1500. My basic Gen 1 vanguard in 257 weatherby shoots sub-moa all day with my hand loads. I paid 500 or so for the rifle, and the only work that I did was a timney trigger. A 3x9x40 from redfield and it is lights out to 500 yards. I think mine is a bit of an anomaly mixed with loads and practice. I have probaby 700-800 rounds through the rifle, maybe more. I have a savage 110fp heavy barrel in 300 win mag that is showing alot of promise too. It will be a sub-moa pretty easily. Harley -
Sounds like you need to get on their tag from now on.

Congrats Ed. That area we were in last year on the last day with you was the best we found last year. It has the most volume of confirmed kills and shots. Let me know if you want more info from what we have seen over the last couple years.
-
Yep. It was cold last year with the freakin wind. This year's hunt will be a week later too...

What are the tire looking things? I am thinking about doing potatoes too, but the tires didn't work out that well last year. They held to much water and half the crop went rotten. They also use a lot of soil for a small return. I want to do more planter boxes/garden space, but it is also in my kids play area so I have to keep my footprint under control otherwise the kids have no place to play.

Even in SV you probably need to get planted right away. I planted in early February and everything is growing well. My artichokes did have an aphid problem that put them back a couple weeks, but once the danger of the last frost is gone, plant plant plant. My peas probably won't make it or do anything this year because it got to hot to quick. I have already lost about 10% of the pea plants I planted due to heat. I am about to put the shade screen up over the box planter soon because it gets so much sun. I am going to add a drip system to it too so it waters when my main garden waters.

I built a 4'x8' box this year out of 2x10 boards. 4x4 boards to reinforce the corners. I used standard boards and put weed barrier on the bottom. I used 3" deck screws for the corners, and pre drilled and counter sunk the screws. I filled with garden soil and organic mix from lowes. I have about 8" of soil in it. It has cabbage, lettece, beets, onions, a little broccoli, carrots, and some pepper plants. I also have an existing in ground garden with more peppers, beets, onions, carrots, lettece, and a cherry tomato. I have a couple pots with garlic, onions, beets, and asparigous in them. There are 2 existing artichokes also. I am not master gardener but I am working on it. I am hoping the cucumbers grow this year. Last year was a bust on that and corn.

Congratulations. Hopefully this year is better than last. Nothing here yet. I am not optimistic after pulling 2 cow tags in a row. I should have my loyalty point for next season though now along with a BP, and hunters ed. Should get me close to another cow tag next year.

I might be down to try some night calling. Shotgun in hand back to back with a trusted hunting buddy, pistol in my lap. The yotes were getting pretty brazen and close to our tent during our javalina hunt last month.

Cow elk caliber for kids rifle
Hoss50 replied to BOWUNTR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
7x57 is a fine caliber if the barrel is still in good shape. It will do anything any of the other calibers you listed will do. 7x57 has killed pretty much every game animal on the planet including elephants. I think it would be fine for a cow elk. I picked up a Ruger in 7x57 for my kids that I am going to work with as their elk rifle. Don't overlook the old caliblers like 7x57 & 6.5x55. They are no slouch and often can do and have been doing the same things or better things than the "hot new calibler".
