  1. Yep. Keep moving on the rim till to get to a safe spot even if it costs you a new rim. To many people die trying to change a tire in a bad spot.

    WTB decent binos - $400

The Nikon Monarch's have been one of the best bang or the buck bino's for years. We used to sell the crap out of them when I worked retail sporting goods 15 years ago.

If you are interested in a knowledge swap let me know. I can tell you where not to look via my adventures this weekend.

    Reverse engineering

My 257 shoots really well with berger 115gr VLD over 61.0gr of h1000. It shoots 117gr hornady interlock well over the same charge. I shoot formed 7mm Rem mag brass though so your pressure will be a little lower than mine. If it shoots the cheap 100 gr weatherby ammo decent then shoot that if you are really too close to the hunt.

    Finally, The Holy Grail!

Maybe, maybe not. I have not had any until now, but theoretically they are more consistent in discharge so you should hopefully get more consistent loads. My 257 weatherby shoots sub-moa with winchester magnum primers. I would like to find some gm 215 for it and a 300 mag.

    WTB TOY HAULER

Weekend Warrior has 1 model that had major frame issues that was the thing that put them out of business so I am told. A buddy has 1 and he had to do some major frame reinforcement on it.

I also need to kick myself in the butt. My 4 year old wanted to look through binoculars when we were looking. I should have handed him the cheapy Bushnell 8x32's that I had from when I was younger. I handed him the 8x42 Vortex Diamondbacks. I tried to give him the bushnells later and he said no, I want the good ones... Those are not great glass, but now he already knows cheap glass sucks and I won't be able to give him cheaper things and get away with it. I had to let him carry the diamondbacks for the rest of the weekend. I carried the new Viper HD's I just got. They are better than anything I have used in the past so they are nice to me.

    7E Scouting Trip Report

Just to finish up the report from this weekend I had a great driver back from Flagstaff. I left at 10:30am and pulled into my driveway in Peoria at 7:30PM. I noticed a slight vibration from the passengers front tire on the way down the hill from Flag toward Camp Verde. It progressively got a little worse as I drove. I pulled over at Camp Verde because I assumed that the tire was probably on its last legs. I pulled into the dirt lot near the Casino and looked the tire, suspension, and driveshaft. It all appeared fine. I decided to pop the cover off the lug nuts to see if they had loosened up. You could say they had. 3 wheel studs with lugnuts still attached fell to the ground. Thought to self...This is not good...This is not an easy fix...So I did what any marginally prepared human being would do at this point. I go to the back of my truck and pull the spare unit bearing wheel hub out of the milk crate it lives in. I get the tools including the monster 1 11/16" socket out of the tool storage bin under the rear seat and go to work. An hour and 20 minutes later I get the truck back on the ground and take off. I am home free now....WRONG I get down to Bloody Basin road and the I-17 is shut down. I get on google to find out if I can bypass the accident via the road through bumble Bee. No dice. I considered the road through bloody basin to 7 springs but with the before mentioned truck problem and only me and my kid I decide against it. I stat in traffic for over an hour to get to Sunset Point where they turned us around and sent us up through Prescott to get home. The whole day turned into a giant cluster F. All the points the road met with any other road was a major backup. Then I finally get through Wickenburg and down to Surprise and Grand Ave is closed for a motorcycle wreck. I can't win for loosing. Then to add insult to injury after I got home I went to put one of my camping boxes away and it slipped. I heard the lovely sound of my lantern globe expose inside it.... If I didn't have some important work due today I would have just went camping again with my son last night and said F it. Harley

    Finally, The Holy Grail!

I picked up a 1000 GM210's at Sportsmans last Friday. They didn't have any boxes, only 100pk so I bought all 10. I have not seen any GM215's though. They have tons of GM155.
  10. I almost did this, and I should have. I got home at 730. They diverted traffic back to prescott and down To Wickenburg. Those roads are not equipped for that kind of volume, and at the obvious choke points there was no traffic control to even attempt to make it better.

    Late season calling

I had several bulls bugle last night in unit 7. I wish I had my cow call to try and get closer to them.

    7E Scouting Trip Report

I am hoping it gets cold soon. I think most of the elk are still up on the mountain. I hunted mostly low and mid elevation last year and my spots from last year are pretty bare right now. Plan B and Plan C are being formulated. I saw 15 turkey, about 14 antelope, 2 dozen deer, and ZERO elk. We heard a couple different bugles from different bulls last night, but beside that we didnt see or find alot... I need it to get cold soon to try and get some elk off the hill. Harley

    Stealth Cam P14?

Are they decent cams? I have the opportunity to get 2 for $100 and don't know squat about cams other then don't buy expensive ones because they will get stolen. Thanks Harley

    Stealth Cam P14?

Nope. They were 50/each new on clearance but I didn't get any. I only found moderate reviews so I passed.

    Rock Island 1911's

Are there any gun shops locally that stock Rock Island 1911's? Preferably on the westside? I want to take a look at the fit and finish on them. I am seriously contemplating a fullsize RIA 1911 in 10mm but I don't really want to order a gun I have never held at least some version of. Thanks Harley

    Viper 15x50's?

I have a shot to get a set of Viper HD 15x50's for a great price. What are people's opinions on these? For the price I don't think I can pass them up right now as the best I have is a set of Vortex Diamondback 8x42's. Are 15's basically exclusively for tripod use? Harley

    Viper 15x50's?

I ended up with a set of Viper HD 15x50's. I literally got them this morning so I have not had a chance to play with them yet but I am hoping this helps during my late elk hunt. I have a few different glassing points I want to try out. My Diamondback 8x42's will be on my neck and the 15's in the backpack. I have a tripod coming too to help use with the 15's. I will probably use these until my oldest son turns 10 and then hopefully I can use that as an excuse to upgrade to a nicer set of glass. Thanks for the help guys.
  19. I decided the best option to work on was the Savage 110FP in 300 win mag. I just dropped this off to have a slabbed 5 port Muscle Brake put on it. When I get it back I am going to start working on a new scope, bases, and rings... I am itching to order a scope but may have to wait a little longer...

    Transmission Shop

In the east valley I would say go to Randy's transmissions and and ask for Frankie. He is a buddy of mine. Tell him Harley referred you. He is a good dude.
  21. I messed up I think. My 257 was startin to lose accuracy because I had not cleaned it in awhile. So I decided to clean the 7mm Rem mag I was working with for my elk hunt too. I was shooting pretty well. I fouled the the 257 and it shoots great again. The 7mm won't stay consistent though. Rounds it was shooting 1-1.25" groups with won't shoot 4" groups now. Nothing Else change Other Than Being cleaned. It's frustrating. I guess the 257 is going elk hunting again. Unless I get this figured out quickly. Harley

    Frustrated

The only thing removed was the bolt when I cleaned it. I didn't touch anything else. I am going to check the scope screws and stock screws and give it a shot again. I might take a box of factory ammo to check if it still doesn't work as I am only shooting my loads. I have never had a problem with my loads though. I will check the chamber.

    Frustrated

I don't believe so. I have switched to a 1 piece cleaning rod to help avoid this.
  24. I have a cow elk hunt in december and the area where I am likely to camp and hopefully skin a few elk this year doesn't have real trees to try and hang from. Does anyone have a good method or idea how to hang an elk in the open? Last year we cleaned 2 of ours on the deck of a flatbed trailer with tarps on the deck. This year we won't have that option. I want to avoid ground cleaning if possible. The only thing I can think of is to try and build something to put in a receiver hitch on my truck. Thoughts?
  25. Hoss50

    Frustrated

Factory Ruger rings. It is just odd because I didn't touch anything on the rifle beside cleaning it. I know cleaning only wouldn't do this but it was the only variable that changed. I am going to check the scope and go from there.
