    26 nosler

I carry a 9mm on purpose, apparently I am not smart. Velocity, energy, and shot placement all count. If you don't have all 3 you are not in good shape.

You are thinking of the HS-LR. That one is capped windage and 1/2 moa elevation.

    Load Development Help

Weatherby mag or Win mag? I would try a different powder. H1000, Retumbo, R22, R25 should all be good powder to try. Try changing your length too.
  4. Has anyone used there rings and bases? My dad's 300 win mag savage 110 has them and I am trying to figure out if they are worth a darn or if I should look into a 1 pcs base or rail when I put a new scope on the rifle. http://www.opticsplanet.com/reviews/reviews-millett-turn-in-two-piece-bases.html?_iv_type=all&_iv_sort=newest&_iv_page=1 Harley
  5. Just curious. I normally use a typical "hunting rifle" with a sporter barrel and normal optics. I am considering working with a new rifle that is a heavy "tactical" barrel. I just don't like the idea of carrying the extra weight around. Harley
  6. I am completely torn. I was pretty set on the weatherby, but today I was thinking and flip floped to the savage.

How Heavy Is Your Hunting Rifle?

The rifle I am thinking about working with is a Savage 110FP that is 9lbs bare. After a scope, bipod, and sling I imagine I will be 12lbs ish.

You have a pm about where I saw goats up that way last.

    Cardinal receiver

I have never been sold on Michael Floyd. They better not pay him IMO. Let him walk.

    Is there a brass tester?

Loose primer pockets and split necks are the 2.things I get most with my cases. If the primer seats to easy I mark the brass and toss it after the next firing. If it splits it's trash.

    I need a truck.!

Friends don't let friends drive fords... I will keep an.eye open. Az car and truck on deer valley rd has nice ford's in stock normally. They specialize in nicer used diesels. If you go ask for Tommy and tell him Harley Sent you.
  13. Does anyone have a set of Ruger standard height blued rings they want to part with? I bought a used M77 with Leupold rings. Turns out they are 30mm rings, and I need 1". Harley

    Goals

I am hoping to help get my hunting buddy on a cow elk and get it done. If I get 1 great, but if we can get him 1 that would be even better. He has never had success on a big game hunt yet.

    Coues Gunz!

HSM has 257 weatherby loaded with 115gr Berger VLD. My handloads use the same bullets and it worked well on my cow elk last year so I think it should be fine on coues. Even the $40 100 gr SP loaded by weatherby would probably be fine. Harley
  18. I was in Randalls today and they had a bunch of powder in stock, including and H1000 and Retumbo among others.
  19. Does anyone load for this dinosaur? I just picked up a mid 80's ruger m77 tang safety I am going to load for. I am thinking about 162 gr ELD-X or 160gr Nosler Partitions. Any tips or hints? Thoughts? (Beside me being wierd and liking oddball calibers) Harley

    7x57 Mauser loads?

Very nice rifle and bull. Thank you for the load info.

    7x57 Mauser loads?

Not a hijack. I want to see it too. I like mannlicher rifles. I am working on an elk load so if you have that recipe I would appreciate it. I bought this rifle because I like 7x57 but I also have young sons who will need a good gun to shoot in a few years.

    2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel

If you are not hand calculating your mileage you don't know what you get. The overhead display lies. My 05 gets about 16-18 mpg depending on amount of street vs. Highway. I have bigger injectors and a tune. Otherwise it is stock. I love these trucks. Someone needs to buy the OP's truck. Good truck at a fair price.

    Possibly moving to Colorado

Windsor is a good choice. I lived in Ft. Collins for 5 years. Nice place too but it is getting busier and traffic can suck. Live in Windsor and drive to where you need to get what you need. A good buddy of mine lives in Windsor and likes it a lot. Colorado is going full hippy/California though so know that. Weed is legal and they are talking about passing a healthcare law that would increase taxes ALOT. Fort Collins has most anything you would want/need and is 20 minutes away, and if they don't Denver does which is an hour away. There is a nice trap & skeet club about 30 minutes from Windsor north of Ault. Loveland and Ft. Collins both now have a branch of Serious Texas BBQ which is AWESOME. I liked living up there, but I got a better job back here, and the four wheeling here is a 100 times better than the front range of CO. Greeley smells like cow turds too. They have a bunch of feedlots over there. You might catch some of that if the wind is right, but you won't have to live in it.
  24. If anyone needs them I have a set of 7-30 waters dies and brass that I don't have a use for. They were given to me and I don't have a 7-30 waters and don't plan to.

    Trophy cow

Yep. My cow last year was my first big game animal and it was a trophy. I have the same hunt again this year and if I am lucky enough to put another one in the freeze it will be just as big of a Trophy to me. Horns are not what makes it a trophy. They may give you something to "judge success" by but it doesn't make anyone's accomplishment better than another.
