New .300WM Load Development
Hoss50 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
We will see if you are 4 for 4. I loaded a few up today and will give them a go next sunday day at PRGC. Thank Harley -
I am hoping to help get my hunting buddy on a cow elk and get it done. If I get 1 great, but if we can get him 1 that would be even better. He has never had success on a big game hunt yet.

New .300WM Load Development
Hoss50 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have another one just like this if you want to do two at once to compare... M77 tang safety. All stock. -
I saw a car today with the plate Levers. Is that you?
-
I have seen them in the white mtns and I saw one a couple weeks ago near Wickenburg.

HSM has 257 weatherby loaded with 115gr Berger VLD. My handloads use the same bullets and it worked well on my cow elk last year so I think it should be fine on coues. Even the $40 100 gr SP loaded by weatherby would probably be fine. Harley

I was in Randalls today and they had a bunch of powder in stock, including and H1000 and Retumbo among others.

Does anyone load for this dinosaur? I just picked up a mid 80's ruger m77 tang safety I am going to load for. I am thinking about 162 gr ELD-X or 160gr Nosler Partitions. Any tips or hints? Thoughts? (Beside me being wierd and liking oddball calibers) Harley

Very nice rifle and bull. Thank you for the load info.

Not a hijack. I want to see it too. I like mannlicher rifles. I am working on an elk load so if you have that recipe I would appreciate it. I bought this rifle because I like 7x57 but I also have young sons who will need a good gun to shoot in a few years.

If you are not hand calculating your mileage you don't know what you get. The overhead display lies. My 05 gets about 16-18 mpg depending on amount of street vs. Highway. I have bigger injectors and a tune. Otherwise it is stock. I love these trucks. Someone needs to buy the OP's truck. Good truck at a fair price.

New Sportsman's Warehouse in Avondale
Hoss50 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
They had a bunch of 22lr in stock today. Lance bought all the 210m though... I went a couple weeks ago too. Smaller but they have higher shelves and have a fair bit of stuff. Not good since I work just down the street and eat lunch in the area often.... Harley -
Windsor is a good choice. I lived in Ft. Collins for 5 years. Nice place too but it is getting busier and traffic can suck. Live in Windsor and drive to where you need to get what you need. A good buddy of mine lives in Windsor and likes it a lot. Colorado is going full hippy/California though so know that. Weed is legal and they are talking about passing a healthcare law that would increase taxes ALOT. Fort Collins has most anything you would want/need and is 20 minutes away, and if they don't Denver does which is an hour away. There is a nice trap & skeet club about 30 minutes from Windsor north of Ault. Loveland and Ft. Collins both now have a branch of Serious Texas BBQ which is AWESOME. I liked living up there, but I got a better job back here, and the four wheeling here is a 100 times better than the front range of CO. Greeley smells like cow turds too. They have a bunch of feedlots over there. You might catch some of that if the wind is right, but you won't have to live in it.

SOLD TC 7-30 waters leupold 2.5-8 scope $475 SOLD
Hoss50 replied to curtis25's topic in Classified Ads
If anyone needs them I have a set of 7-30 waters dies and brass that I don't have a use for. They were given to me and I don't have a 7-30 waters and don't plan to. -
Yep. My cow last year was my first big game animal and it was a trophy. I have the same hunt again this year and if I am lucky enough to put another one in the freeze it will be just as big of a Trophy to me. Horns are not what makes it a trophy. They may give you something to "judge success" by but it doesn't make anyone's accomplishment better than another.

Get away from the roads. Even when I hunted 8 over 15 years ago people road hunt the heck out of that unit.

Great rifle in a great caliber. I love my 257 weatherby vanguard.

Another Good Used Buy - Hunt 2016 w/ a Ruger Mark II 7mm Mag Rifle & Nikon Scope
Hoss50 replied to Healy Arms's topic in The Campfire
I plan to be hunting this season with a very similar rifle. This is a great deal. -
Yep. I do it all the time alot of semi auto rifles flat spot cases like that. Like lance said, even size new brass. I made that mistake one time and the brand new cases would not hold bullets. They had no neck tension because they were slightly to large.

I'm getting excited for Dove season!!!!
Hoss50 replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I switched from my full choke to modifed and I did much better. I have never hunted dove with less than modified though. I don't get a ton of close shots where I hunt though. -
What coues caliber to build off a Remington 700 Long Action
Hoss50 replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I am not even that old and I am tired of hard hitting magnums and am working toward lighter classic calibers. I have my dad's 6.5x55 mauser that was sporterized by Kimber in the 80's. Light, handy, and shoots well. I also just picked up a Ruger M77 in 7x57 Mauser to work on getting into hunt shape. Both are classic and great rounds that are efficient butt don't kill the shooter on recoil and in the right rifle they don't kill your back either. I love my 257 weatherby, but I wish they would make a 130-140gr bullet for it. I don't hot load it though so it is more of a 25-06. Harley -
Road 419 in 7E. It is shown as a "dirt road suitable for passenger car". Bull____. If you take your car down that road I would be happy to sit at the other end waiting to hand you 30 cold beers. That road sucked last year. I took a double cab Dodge longbed down it. I have a 6 speed with granny low and I was in first gear low range at several points. I am no stranger to rough roads. I have rock crawled for 15 years, and I have been on "rock crawling" trails that were way easier. I almost turned around several times, but I thought to myself it can't be any worse and I have to be getting close to the end. I wasn't. In a SxS or quad it may not be all the bad because you could bypass a lot of the crap, but in a truck that is 22' long you don't have quite the turning radius and ability to bypass things. Harley

Last year for my elk hunt it was between Casey's in Flagstaff and Carl's customach meats in Camp Verde. I eneed up at Casey's but I heard good things about Carl's. That is where I would go if i had a hunt near camp verde
