I know they will both shoot well. The savage especially. It has a bargin Simmons 6-18x40 scope on it and it shot 5 remington 180gr corelokts under 1" at 100. I pulled out 50 cases for the 300 win mag last night to start case prep. I am going to send it to get a muzzle brake soon, and probably put a Vortex HS-LR 6x24x50 FFP on it. Harley

So we have been 3 weekends in a row now. The 4 year old said he wanted to do the BIG mountain last weekend. I told him it was long, but he insisted. I switched my badlands backpack for a kid toter and carried the 30lb 1 year old and extra water. The 4 year old did great on the hike to the top other than he kept asking how much farther. We got to the top and took his picture next to the American flag and we had a snack. On the way down though the length of the trail started getting to him. On the walk back next to 5th Ave next to the mountain he wanted to give up and was pretty whinney. We had a pep talk and we powered to the end. We were both pretty spent at the end but I didn't let him know how toast I was. He did great overall, but we will save that trail til later when. He is in even better shape. Harley

I am just starting to work with them. I put some 162gr in some 7x57 cases last night and have some 175gr going in the 7 Rem mag soon. I will probably get some of the 30 caliber flavor soon too for my buddies 3006 and a 300 for me. I hope to put an ELD-x or a berger VLD in a cow elk in a couple months. Harley

Has anyone used the new Hornady eld-x on game yet? I am thinking about using them on an upcoming cow elk hunt but have not seen much feedback on how they perform on deer and elk. I will probably be shooting the 7mm in either the 175gr or 162gr. 7mm Rem mag and or 7x57 mauser. Thanks Harley

Titan bolts are where it is at. 1/2" x 3" long and your pretty stout. I would just drill it honestly. It is doubtful you will hit a cable.

When I started shooting my 257 weatherby I used imr4831 and it shot ok. I was using 4831 as a compromise so I could load my buddies 3006 with the same powder. I switched to h1000 and the gun shot great. With berger hvlds I shoot sub MOA no problem. I switched my buddies 3006 to RL22 and it is doing better too. For a mag caliber 4831 is a compromise to me. Try a slower mag powder and I bet you do better. Try different bullets too. My 257 shoots nosler ballistic tips ok, but it shoots berger HVLD and hornady BTSP lights out.

I carry a 9mm on purpose, apparently I am not smart. Velocity, energy, and shot placement all count. If you don't have all 3 you are not in good shape.

You are thinking of the HS-LR. That one is capped windage and 1/2 moa elevation.

Weatherby mag or Win mag? I would try a different powder. H1000, Retumbo, R22, R25 should all be good powder to try. Try changing your length too.

Has anyone used there rings and bases? Just curious. I normally use a typical "hunting rifle" with a sporter barrel and normal optics. I am considering working with a new rifle that is a heavy "tactical" barrel. I just don't like the idea of carrying the extra weight around. Harley

I am completely torn. I was pretty set on the weatherby, but today I was thinking and flip floped to the savage.

The rifle I am thinking about working with is a Savage 110FP that is 9lbs bare. After a scope, bipod, and sling I imagine I will be 12lbs ish.

Loose primer pockets and split necks are the 2.things I get most with my cases. If the primer seats to easy I mark the brass and toss it after the next firing. If it splits it's trash.

Does anyone have a set of Ruger standard height blued rings they want to part with? I bought a used M77 with Leupold rings. Turns out they are 30mm rings, and I need 1". Harley

I am hoping to help get my hunting buddy on a cow elk and get it done. If I get 1 great, but if we can get him 1 that would be even better. He has never had success on a big game hunt yet.

I have seen them in the white mtns and I saw one a couple weeks ago near Wickenburg.

HSM has 257 weatherby loaded with 115gr Berger VLD. My handloads use the same bullets and it worked well on my cow elk last year so I think it should be fine on coues. Even the $40 100 gr SP loaded by weatherby would probably be fine. Harley
