I would have to go with a remington 700 cdl in 270 with a leupold vx3 4.5-14×40. If I had another it would be the same set up just in 25/06. But a 270 imo is great gun for med size game up large game. It is a good all around cal.

I dont hunt mule deer as my first option but the ones I posted pictures of would make me change my mind if someone doesn't kill the big one. I have seen a few deer get lost after a bad hit from a 7 mm & 300 Wm because the people using them didn't practice with there gun. I would say a 243 is ok out 300 yards. Creed if you would like I have a 243 wssm and a 243 win if you would like to try them out let me know I believe you work with one of my friends. So getting them to you is not a problem
