Tips on bird dog training
az_shooter posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have a chocolate lab pup, he's only about 8 months old and he loves the water and I have him retrieving out of water already and he knows the basic sit, lay, stay, and speak. I'm just wanting to know if anyone has and good training exercises to help my pup get ready for his first bird season. Maybe a good idea for a new forum category, bird dogs and dog training. -
AZ_SAWBUCK - I'm thinking of just calling the g&f dept. and clarifying but as far as I can see it is just fair game! Hog hunting here I come! Rifle2Bow - I've been in a few spots in NM recently and have seen feral hogs and its all fair chace, no high fence like Texas or other places that trap them in. I've also heard that they are super good to eat so thanks for the good luck wish!

Thanks for the info all and here are so pictures of the little guy, some not so little anymore haha, that last one I just took right now after I had to wash the mud off him cause it had been raining all day and he was having a blast playing in it. -
Awesome job!

Thanks for the great info so far, and ill keep my eye out for that pm TJ, thank you. My biggest thing is I'm trying not to be hard on him because I want to keep him motivated but at the same time all he wants to do is play when I try and work with him. He's a great pup and I'm super excited to have him and be training him so I want to try and do it right. -
+1 on the Sonoita cut at the steak house in Sonoita AZ, just east of Patagonia Lake on HWY 82.

FEMA will not be doing a whole in this situation, especially when it comes to freeing up funds. I also am in the same line of work and what has transpired of the past couple hits us all pretty hard. I would like to add that if anyone doesn't have any horns to donate to Joel but you still want to donate you can go directly to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation web site and donate there, it's www.wffoundation.org, and those proceeds also go to the family. Not trying to step on your toes with what your doing Joel, just giving more info bud. R.I.P. Granite Mountain IHC

Extremely sad day for the wildland fire community. You will be missed and will be honored by the rest of us who get up and get back out on the line to fight another day. -
Headed to the lake this evening making everyone jealous haha hope you guys did alright.

Wow, he's been slaying them, congrats to Garret. Is KBS something he started?

AZGFD TAG & LICENSE FEES
az_shooter replied to Justin Stahl's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'm all for them raising the price for premium hunts. I'm surprised they have stayed the same and the general hunts all these years. It's pretty much the same system they use in New Mexico and it seems to work just fine. -
Good point on the Pronghorn sheaths. They would be sweet to see. Post pictures of your Triple Crown (and the antelope sheaths) if you have them. Thanks! I found an Antelope sheath before, but it was in a burned area and was a little crispy and didn't smell very good, so I didn't keep it. But the coolest sheath I've found was a ram sheath in Nevada, but it was also in a burned area and wasn't much left of it when I found it.

Southern left over tag questions
az_shooter replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Lived, worked and hunted in the border units my whole life and I have never once had a problem (illegals that is, I have had a mountain lion problem though). If you want to branch out I would say try 35a, it's a southern unit with decent deer population so it should be easier to find deer without knowing the area too well. Lots of hunters pound the unit but its still a decent hunt and a good place to start if you want to come south. IMO anyways. -
How many BP for a Dec Hunt
az_shooter replied to Big Browns's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I hope I get that lucky, I have two points and this year should be my loyalty, I don't know if that loyalty point will count for this year or if it will show for next year but I'm hoping for a Dec tag this year too. -
I too have never found all three, I'm missing the biggest one, elk. Don't get much of them down here in southern AZ, but would love to find one. But I am about to find a triple shot of crown if I open my freezer! Haha I probably couldn't handle a triple shot.

I've been out almost every weekend for the past month and a half and have found a brown every time out. I'm surprised your still getting pictures of bucks holding antlers, pretty cool.

I ment instead of October, not December haha
-
Great unit in my opinion, maybe November instead of December and you have to hike. Not just a little hike, but a lot of hiking. You gotta get in behind private where the roads don't go. Probably not the best unit for taking a couple new people but still a good unit if you put in the work.

So you're the one in the hummer everyone keeps saying they see. I've yet to see you but ill keep looking and if you see me first, give me a honk haha. I'm in the white dodge diesel with the sticker on the front.
