I've only caught two Sean but cody has five.Cody and I are heading out next week to trap some private gound for a couple of weeks I'll let you know how we do.
-
I have a tag also but it didn't seam very sporting to me.I doubt its legal anyway. And yes it did eat the bait.
-
It was set for a bobcat.I had cat glands and a jackrabbit head in the cage.I just opened the door and he took off as fast as he could run. When I first walked up to the cage he was sound asleep.

looking to learn from a successful predator hunter
twowindy replied to MT_Sourdough's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I have to agree with crismp51 the 22-250 is not fur friendly. -
Hey brian I'm looking for Winchester super magnum with the 25gr bullets.I'll call you in the next day or two.Tell cody to suck it up and take you calling. He has client next weekend and he needs the practice.
-
Hey sniper where did you find shells? I can't seem to find any anywhere.

I use a shotgun or my 222 if I'm after coyotes but if I'm calling for fox I use the shotgun or the 17Hmr.My son and I and a couple of good friends have all dropped coyotes well over 100 yrds with the 17Hmr.One of them dropped a bobcat at 150 yrds.It works for all four of us.You cant argue with success.I just bought a 17 Winchester super mag but havn't had a chance to try it out yet. They say it will kill coyotes well over 200 yrds with the 25gr bullet.I tried the 22 mag but my son and I both feel like the 17Hmr kills better with less damage. We only shoot furbearers in the winter when the fur is good
-
The 223 is rough on fox.Your shotgun with lead #4's would be best.I've shot a lot of fox with a shotgun with very little damage.Just don't shoot them closer than 25yrds.For fox with a rifle it's hard to beat the 17HMR and you can still take a coyote or bobcat out to 150yrds with no problem.I save the fur from all of the bobcats, coyotes and fox I shoot and I don't like sewing up big holes either. If your not saving fur it doesn't matter what you shoot them with.

Varmint hunters question
twowindy replied to Coues assassin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
coyotes are furbearers not varmits.there is a market for them. -
azslim is right .don't salt before you flesh the hide.Don't let the hide dry out without turning the ears and lips.
-
Try running your e-caller with the volume real low while you mouth call.Put the e-caller about 30 to 35 yards in front of you.Sometimes when they come in this will take their attention away from you.

There are new rules this year for selling your bobcats. You have to turn in the lower jaw to G+F in order to get your export tags,so make sure you save the lower jaw when you skin them.No jaw no export tag.You can read more about this in the trapping regs.
-
We wont forget you Brian, cody might but I wont.Lets just make a weekend trip out of it and all three of you can go.
-
Good point.
-
If the G+f are trying to keep track of how many bobcats are taken each season it only makes sense to me to count all of them that are taken. If they cut down the harvest for trappers they should do the same to predator callers its only fair. BIG BROWNS I wont forget you.
