CameralandNY has treated me well. Competetive pricing and no BS. Got some great deals on demo'd products that were "as new."

Pattern testing is always the best way to PROVE which load will work best in your shotgun/choke combo. That being said, I've had really good luck with Federal 3" 12 gauge #5 copper plated lead turkey loads with the flite control wads, so have my hunting buddies. There have been many improvements since this load came out but it is relatively cheap and flattens birds easily. #6 shot version does not seem to produce instant kills like the #5's.

Looks like a good time.

^^^^ This Ranger is a relatively lightweight truck. When things get slippery, chains and limited slip (better yet a locker) will get you a whole lot of places. Get a high lift jack, a couple shovels and a tow strap. Keep your head on straight and you'll be fine.

Concerns regarding Hoghunters go fund me account.
Swivelhead replied to Bill@roofer's topic in The Campfire
The family confirms that Guy Hill of Ohio has the family's permission to conduct a gofundme campaign for Hoghunter's family? If so, you ought to post this information in the original thread. -
.243 Win will be fine for your hunt. I'd suggest acquiring a quality rangefinder, there are great units available for less than $500. Cross canyon shots may look like 200 - 300 yards but are often misjudged and are 500 - 600 yards. A range finder will tell the story. Also, don't soley rely on balistic programs/charts to prepare for longer shots, prove your rifles ballistic tendencies. If you have not practiced at 300 yards, don't shoot at game @ 300 yards.

I've been going through old photos and found two pictures of a massive Coues buck. I have no idea whose deer it is or how the heck I came to posess the pictures. Personally, I've never seen a Coues buck with this kind of mass. It may have been posted on this site at some point. Anybody know about this buck? I've got a few more pictures I will post of different bucks that I have no clue about. Hopefully I do not offend the hunter who took this deer.

Clicked on the gofundme link. Not to add stress to already difficult situation but the donation page says Guy Hill from Ohio has organized this fundraiser. Can anybody close to the family verify this person is in fact close to the family and not a scammer?

Tragic. Peace to him, prayers for his family.

You are correct. Bonus pass for sheep and bison is 20% of available permits not 20% of tags in a hunt number.

Walkstool will handle a lot of weight. Somewhat comfortable but it is a three leg stool. Sit on it long enough and your butt will get sore. It is very light and compact however. I use one for treks but prefer a chair if reasonably close to a vehicle.

Hunterdan makes a valid point, there are a number of variables when it comes to the sheep draw. A number of max point holders are only eligible for rocky mtn rams. Suspect the current max point pool will remain a few more years as the remaining participants are likely to be very picky. 20% of available permits are issued in the bonus pass. Even though you are not currently in the max point pool for sheep, your application is assigned a random number for the bonus pass. It is possible to draw in the bonus pass without being a max point holder. has not yet happened in the sheep draw to date but suspect it likely happened in the 2020 fall draw cycle. From the AZGF website: How do Bonus Points work in the Big Game Drawing? There are 3 phases to the Big Game Drawing – the Bonus Point Pass, the First-Second Choice Pass, and the Third-Fourth-Fifth Choice Pass. For each phase of the drawing, a random number is generated for each application plus additional random numbers for each group bonus point (which includes the Hunter Education and Loyalty bonus points) credited to the application. The lowest random number generated for an application is used in the drawing process. If you are drawn for a species, your bonus points for that species are zeroed out; however, you will retain your Hunter Education bonus point, if you have one, for the next drawing and your Loyalty bonus point for that species if you continue to submit valid application for that species.

North side of Mt Ord burned in June of 1972. Looks about the same this time.

Congrats on the cat. The mount is impressive.

Getting trapped by high flows is no fun. Crossing in darkness will get your hackles up especially when its been a year since the last time you used a particular crossing. We used to call SRP and talk to their hydrologist to get a dam/water release forecast.
-
If @ Sheep bridge use the Tangle creek reading, aka "into Horseshoe." Below Horseshoe, utilize the SRP dam release reading. As far a fords go, 300 cfs or less is ideal. Till you get familiar with the crossings, I suggest going in warmer weather and wading prior to crossing as you are liable for any "problems" that occur when fording. The "old" crossing @ Sheep bridge used to be downstream of the bridge at the downstream end of the big pool, it is now deep and swift, people are fording slightly upstream of the bridge. I suggest you check out youtube. Also, these roads that go east "flirt" with the wilderness boundary. I'd suggest you GPS a waypoint on each of them to make sure you don't violate any laws. Have fun, good quail hunting across the river but too much cactus for dogs.

Nothing yet but I am optimistic till about mid afternoon on Saturday. Been tough so far, most of the people I know are without CC hits.

Outstanding write-up. Congrats to your daughter.
