Sportsmans Input Sought by ConserveandProtectAZ.org-Unit wide Raffle and Auction Tags
Swivelhead replied to Jay Scott's topic in The Campfire
As stated by others, allocating a public resource for a PAC is unlikely to pass the legislature and IMO would set a precedent that could have negative consequenses down the road. I will NEVER advocate allowing public hunting permits be made available to any private entity. Landowner, PAC, whatever. Once a hog is at a trough, not easy to get them away from it. -
Protein bars, kippered snacks, smoked oysters, sardines, jerky, hardboiled eggs with condiment size hot sauce and yes ...... heartburn pills. PB&J on stiff bread is always good too.

Very nice patterns. Dead birds.

7mm RM and a 6000 psi air bow (surely they won't wait too long to begin production of a new & improved version, LOL).

I wouldn't call a compound bow primitive I agree but with a compound you still have to hold some draw weight AND when preparing to shoot you must "make the move" aka, draw the bow giving the quarry an opportunity to become aware of your postion.

Personally, I think archery only seasons should be restricted to compounds & traditional equipment, drawn and held under the stress of holding the draw weight. Anybody not capable of doing so needs to get a firearm/muzzleloader permit. Got no issue with a champ permit for archery only seasons providing the issue is mobility and not the inability to use a compound or traditional bow. IIRC, archery is supposed to be a primitive weapon season. A scoped airbow capable of 450 fps is not what I'd call a primitive weapon. FLAME ON!

Game & Fish will have a difficult time getting convictions IMO. Should G&F go into confiscation mode @ water, I think G&F could be easily set up for a lawsuit by a lawful trailcam user.

I believe the Cat's win against the then undefeated Devils showed the rest of the PAC 12 ASU's vulnerabilities. They all went to school on the UofA diagnosis. Devils are a decent team but not tournament worthy (obviously). Go Cats!

Hunt for Hero's Predator Hunt, Phoenix Varmint Callers
Swivelhead replied to Couestracker's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
LOL, I've got a mental picture of digging out a man chasing, tire chewing, gut shot badger out of a hole at night. I'd wager that every shovel full of dirt had a certain amount of excitement. -
So like 8 year olds should be able to buy guns? Eight may be a little young, bought a model 700 .270 win. when I was 12. Washed dishes in a restaraunt all summer to fund the purchase.

Hunt for Hero's Predator Hunt, Phoenix Varmint Callers
Swivelhead replied to Couestracker's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Tim Pender. Now there's a name I haven't heard in forever. Met the man (Mr. Pender) on a Boquillas cleanup a number of years ago. Never spent much time in that part of our state but my buddies that did have a huge amount of respect for the man. Hope he's doing well. Congrats on the Badger too! Not big on badger mounts but I think the pelts are amazing. -
Left handed cari-bow recurve

Beautiful bow. Trashed my shoulder last year, doubt I'll be able to handle 56# in the future. Good luck with the sale. -
New AZGF rule (proposed, which means it’s a done deal) about game cameras:
Swivelhead replied to bowsniper's topic in The Campfire
Unless somebody incriminates themselves regarding unattended camera use, I doubt G&F would ever get a conviction. -
The framers of our constitution believed that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. Furthermore, that right SHALL not be infringed. The purpose was twofold. #1- Defend our country against foreign invaders. #2- Should the need arise, the people would be armed and capable of standing up to a tyrannical government. The anti 2nd amendment crowd often talk about the founding fathers & muskets. In 1776 the ultimate weapon of the state was a blackpowder cannon (I believe). Fast forward 200+ years, governments (both foreign an domestic) have nukes, nerve agents, bio weapons, tanks, apc's, armed drones, etc. In light of the advancement of weapons possessed by the governments of the world, I believe the 2nd amendment is more relevant than ever. A semiauto carbine is not much of a match for a helicopter gunship but it beats the heck out of a slingshot.

Congrats on your bull. Ten years is a long time. You made it count, very nice bull.

There is an angled Leica 77mm APO on Craigslist Phoenix for 1K. Leica APO spotters are alpha glass.

In a similar spirit to this comment, if we continue to improve the methods of taking game, but dont have anyway to increase the renewable resource of game animals, then arent we bound to hunt ourselves out of opportunity. Aldo Leopold compared this to improving a pump without improving a well. Eventually you will run out of water. I also disagree with the argument that just because a method of take is legal, that it should be embraced by the hunting community. Another Leopold quote was that Ethics were doing the right thing when no one was looking, even when the right thing might be legal. The North American model of wildlife management is based on these principles and the principle of fair chase. Fair chase is also a foundational principle for both P&Y club and B&C. In the past, hunters policed themselves and carried the burden of defining acceptable practice. Today that sentiment has changed greatly. We regularly see comments stating essentially if its legal, dont question it. Perhaps we should be questioning more things amongst ourselves instead of squashing debate. Perhaps we should not declare that our actions are beyond question simply because they are beyond prosecution. Maybe we owe it to ourselves and to future hunters to have the conversation. ^^^^ This Technology has changed hunting forever. Having a conversation about method of take is OK in my opinion.

FYI, I root for the Devils. ASU's program is on the rise, that's about it for now.

ASU has no answer for Ayton & Ristic. Good game, Devils on the rise but got a long way to go.

FWIW, I am a full blown lefty (not a leftist). I grew up shooting RH bolt guns. As LH bolt guns became more common and I had the financial ability, I acquired multiple LH bolt guns. To this day, in a rapid fire situation (did a lot of predator calling back in the day), I rotate the rifle away from my face to reach for the RH bolt which really slows down the cycle time as I have to then rotate the rifle back and snatch the LH bolt. The muscle memory I learned as a youth remains ingrained in my psyche to this day. My point is, she will do fine with whatever you provide for her.

This would be a really nice starter rifle, offered in left hand and 7mm-08: https://www.remington.com/rifles/bolt-action/model-700/model-700-sps-compact More affordable: http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/AXISCompacyLH

A calculated shot by a practiced shooter @ 800 yards is likely to have a better outcome than an offhand shot @ 100 yards by an average shooter. Whatever shot any of us take, we own it. Evaluate yourself accordingly..

This guy is killin it with this yote! Looks tasty
Swivelhead replied to hoghntr's topic in The Campfire
Many years ago a coworker admitted to trying coyote meat. Said it looked good but tasted bad. Could have been a rank ol' coyote.
