Binoviewers have been around a long time. Till now, primarily utilized by astronomers. No doubt, Swarovski will produce a robust unit suitable for use by the outdoor crowd. Swarovski's decision to produce the BTX is a breakthrough. The purpose of my post is to make potential users aware that a binocular eyepiece reduces light transmission of a given objective size to 50% for each eye. Additional light transmission is lost "splitting the image". This issue is hotly debated among astronomers. The astro folks agree that due to what they call binocular amplification, the brain will see approximately 70% image brightness of a single eyepiece. I did some calculations based on the 70% value stated by the astronomy crowd. A 95mm BTX rig should be the equivalent of a 78mm true binocular. At 35X and Swaro quality, it ought to be amazing. I believe the 1.7X Barlow could be an issue in low light. Did not do the calcs for the 65mm or the 85mm. Doubt the 65mm is a candidate for low light work with the BTX eyepiece. IMO, Swaro hit a homer but the larger objectives (85/95) will be necessary to fully take advantage of the BTX eyepiece.

Don't use them myself but enjoy viewing photos people post from captures on their trail cams.

Probably a rifle scope. I'd like to see big binos, 80 mm +. Give Kowa and Docter some competition. Something like this except 45' or straight. 90' is for astronomy. Swaro manufacture would be much more robust. http://www.cloudynights.com/topic/426446-swarovski-atx-95-binoculars/page-3

Desert Christian Archers Free Turkey Hunting Seminar
Swivelhead replied to darrcolburn's topic in Turkeys!
Jay & Darr put on a really good turkey hunting seminar. Went to one in 15', time well spent. -
I've got both (old & new). The new ones are lighter. Image is sharper but most of all, slightly more eye relief for those of us who must wear eyeglasses. I find the older SLC's require me to stay very tight to the oculars with proper head position in order the keep the fov full. The new ones are slightly better in that regard.

Impressive take! No quarter for yotes.

What do you guys consider "cleaning"? Full blown copper removal or would a powder solvent & minor brushing qualify? I realize that a solvent & brushing does require a few fouling shots.

Never forget that day. Was welding pipe deep in the belly of unit 3 at Palo Verde. Friend came down and informed me. Not a good day.

Desert Pheasant Recreation "HORRIBLE"
Swivelhead replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Thanks for a heads up on this operation as I had considered going there myself just to watch some good dog work (and bag a few pheasants). Planted pen raised birds for local field trials a very long time ago. Hunting pen raised birds with dogs that are not broke to wing & shot is ugly. Pen raised birds that have not spent a few weeks in a flight pen about can't get off the ground. Birds from flight pens do OK but are only good for 1 or 2 flushes. Too bad the handler didn't put the dogs on check cords. The dogs could have learned to hold a point and your group could have shot flushing birds you paid for. -
Congrats on a whopper buck.

i think people dont go because its an exercise in futility Hunt guidelines are pretty much set in stone prior to public comment meetings IMO. Best bet is contact with commissioners and appropriate department brass with your concerns. A respectful email often elicits a response, if not at least a seed is planted. Government tends to move slowly. Patience is paramount.

Good to hear they're up to 300 animals. Have yet to see any in the wild but look forward to the day.

Gutless method for sure. Slow cook submerged in a bullion/water solution of your choice, use plenty of water during the process. Cook only long enough to break down the meat. Pour off the liquid, shred the meat. Add BBQ, green chili or whatever you like. Simmer for 30 minutes. Tastes good.

Once in a lifetime last day buck
Swivelhead replied to bonecollector777's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Congratulations on a dream buck! -
In my younger days I did a lot of calling, mostly used a centerfire bolt gun. Looking back, I'd have doubled my kill rate had I packed a scattergun. Good job on a nice looking dog.

The whole unit has javelina. Desert areas are easier to glass. Grab you shotgun & go quail hunting in your unit. Boot leather will reveal where they aren't.

Need to find a builder in the Phoenix area. Unit will be pulled out of the rig. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. Used them when I changed gears in my truck many years ago.

Consistently taking deer out stalking in the desert is difficult. You did well, congrats on your 1st deer.

I have committed to taking a good friend on the last 3 days of a late 22 whitetail hunt. If we get done, I'll call and see if we can assist. Good luck! -
I'll take the 22 magazines. Believe they go to an old remington bolt action.

Great adventure! Well earned ram, very cool story.
