Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Thanks for a heads up on this operation as I had considered going there myself just to watch some good dog work (and bag a few pheasants). Planted pen raised birds for local field trials a very long time ago. Hunting pen raised birds with dogs that are not broke to wing & shot is ugly. Pen raised birds that have not spent a few weeks in a flight pen about can't get off the ground. Birds from flight pens do OK but are only good for 1 or 2 flushes. Too bad the handler didn't put the dogs on check cords. The dogs could have learned to hold a point and your group could have shot flushing birds you paid for.

i think people dont go because its an exercise in futility Hunt guidelines are pretty much set in stone prior to public comment meetings IMO. Best bet is contact with commissioners and appropriate department brass with your concerns. A respectful email often elicits a response, if not at least a seed is planted. Government tends to move slowly. Patience is paramount.

Gutless method for sure. Slow cook submerged in a bullion/water solution of your choice, use plenty of water during the process. Cook only long enough to break down the meat. Pour off the liquid, shred the meat. Add BBQ, green chili or whatever you like. Simmer for 30 minutes. Tastes good.

In my younger days I did a lot of calling, mostly used a centerfire bolt gun. Looking back, I'd have doubled my kill rate had I packed a scattergun. Good job on a nice looking dog.

The whole unit has javelina. Desert areas are easier to glass. Grab you shotgun & go quail hunting in your unit. Boot leather will reveal where they aren't.

Not sure how I missed this thread. Wow, never seen a coues with a frame remotely close to that buck. Congrats to both of you. The excitement had to be off the charts the 1st time that buck materialized in the optics.
