Found a new area looking for veteran advice.
Swivelhead replied to Ethicsovereverything's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good advice in this thread, especially the "boot leather" part. -
A turkey app, cd, dvd etc. is important. When learning to call, the cadence is more important than the sound. It's easy enough to work on the sound later but if you pick up a cadence flaw it seems (for me) to be more difficult to correct. I've got a cd that I'll blast when travelling down the road to work on cadence. Turkey hunting is still 80% knowing the birds habits & territory.

IMO: 1) Get a 12 gauge Remington 870 capable of handling 3" shells. 2) Federal 3" mag shok (lead) #5 shot, flight control wad. No matter what you choose, pattern your loads. 3) Pot call 1st, good box call 2nd, start practicing with diaphragm's now. Best to practice when driving back & forth to work (assuming you don't carpool).

Nice bulls!

This^ Reading the UofA faithful's feeble attempts to degrade ASU's football program enhances the "savor all year long" immensely. Please don't stop.

No issues here other than I didn't draw bison or turkey. -
Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!
Swivelhead replied to SirRoyal's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Landowners can do as they please with their land. End of story. Attempting to punish them for exercising their property rights is baloney. Do I wish there was a way to access public lands within? Of course but that is a separate issue. Big Bo has allowed public access for years, much longer than most other large ranch properties. Charging trespass fee's for access beats the heck out of a total lockup. -

Falconry and rabbit fields

Wish I knew a good place, I'd love to see a well trained bird work. When I was a kid I had a Coopers hawk then a redtail. Had no business having either as I was not mentored and did not know what I was doing. Keep posting, love to hear about your bird and your sport. -
Archers have lobbied for a later start for the early archery hunt. G&F appears to be testing the waters. If archers are less successful due to early rifle/muzzy taking place prior to early archery bull, it would allow G&F to increase early archery permits hunts in the future. G&F is all about squeezing as much revenue out of the resource as possible. Personally, I don't think it will have much effect on archers overall success but no doubt some of the larger bulls won't be there. Could be the early rifle/muzzy success would go down (doubt it). Should hunt success drop for both weapon types G&F could increase permits for both. Looks like we'll get our chance to see this play out.

Perfect!

Well done guys. Spot & stalk on the late hunt ain't easy.

Great job dad! Fished that lake with my dad & brothers when I was a kid (LBJ was in office).

The Wyoming press release is about outright poaching. 4 out of 10 vehicles chose to shoot in a closed area. That IS disturbing. It would be interesting to know if the 4 were actually licensed hunters enroute to a legal hunting area.

Sandhill Crane
Swivelhead replied to Little Creek Calls's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Got a hunt starting 11/17. Cold weather up north should be moving more birds into AZ. Will be hunting a new area this year, hope we get some birds to decoy. -
You bet! Although I've not seen a ton of Coues spikes in my life. That particular spike is about twice as long as any I remember seeing.

Wonder if this/these lazy azz idiots realize they could have GIVEN the remainder of the carcass to someone. I'd have been happy to have it. Makes me wonder if this deer was taken under less than honorable circumstances.

Mineral lick, natural or man made? I've seen ungulates eat dirt. Seen javelina root up the dirt where a salt block had dissolved into the soil.

It's been a very long time since I got my 1st deer. Remember it like it was yesterday. Congrats on your accomplishment.

Not sure how Garmin will handle it, make the call & find out. Have you attempted to re-calibrate the touch screen?
