Guides/outfitters are under tremendous pressure to produce results for their clients. Suspect most guides would double their income working at McDonalds. No doubt, guiding is a labor of love, emphasis on labor. The business is already highly regulated, how they produce profit is beyond me. Leave em' alone! Gang hunting, finders fee's, trail cams, etc. are a relatively new phenomenon. Government moves slowly, how public land managers, AZGF get around to dealing with these issues (if at all) will be interesting. IMO: Gang hunting: I do it myself, these days tags are tough to come by. When a buddy draws something good I'm there. I try to respect fellow hunters, I stick to the roads and sit behind my optics. Don't know how you can prevent a citizen or a licensed outfitter employee from accessing public land for work or play. Gang hunting is here to stay, the trick is to respect others who do have a tag. Finders fee's: IRS, yeah, those guys and 1099's. Forest Service, BLM, etc. will probably be looking for a cut too. Suspect government likes finders fee's. Trail cams, ground blinds, tree stands, waterhole competition, etc: Not sure how this will go but at some point it does become an eyesore. Suspect this will be the only issue that get's dealt with by public land managers. Complaints by hunters and other land users who have issues with finding their public lands littered with devices left by others may get attention via regulation at some point. Personal surveillance systems ought to well concealed (less theft and "out of sight, out of mind"). Photo's of other recreationists probably shouldn't be blasted over the internet. A little etiquette by cam users could go a long way. Flame on!

I've got no issue with a .223 or 22-250 for yotes. Never lost one if I did my part. 22LR is another story, while attempting to save fur I went through a phase back in the day with the 22LR. Double lung hits and they'd run far enough that recovery was uncertain. Stuck on saving fur, I went for CNS hits with the beloved 22LR. Worked well but brain & spine is a much smaller target. My opinion: Leave the 22LR in the truck. On another note: If I'd used a shotgun with hot loads for all my calling back in the day I'd likely doubled my kill numbers. Shotguns are very forgiving, especially when a quick shot on moving targets is all you've got. #4 buckshot is probably best but I like BB's too.

Congrats on pulling a tag. You'll have a blast!

Got some 15X Swaro's, the older version. Great glass, however eye relief is an issue (reduced FOV) for those of us that should wear glasses. Zeiss 15's have an additional 3mm of eye relief over the old Swaro 15's. 15X SLC's can be had for 1300 - 1500, New Zeiss are slightly more. If I were to purchase additional 15's, I likely get the Zeiss. Good luck with your search.

Friend of mine who is active in an OHV club forwarded this to me. Apparently somebody is doing some "monkey wrenching" up north. Forest Service let his club know about the problem. From a Forest Service LEO: Please share with folks in the field and contact LEO if anybody comes across this type of thing on the Flagstaff RD. I RECOVERED ANOTHER SPIKE IN AN OHV TRACK OFF OF FR 630A THIS MORNING. FYI… On the Mogollon Rim on 7-11, I received 2 reports of rebar shaped into punji sticks and placed on or near forest roads. The rebar is responsible for damaging 8 tires today. The rebar has been reported in two locations about 3 miles apart near Happy Jack Lodge. I recovered 5 of the punji stick style pieces of rebar from an OHV track near FR 702. Undoubtedly, the rebar has been purposed to puncture tires. The end of the rebar has been flattened and sharpened to a point and the exposed point has been painted to blend in with the road surface. The objects pose serious risks to walkers and animals as well. So far it seems that the MO is for the rebar to be placed in areas frequented by OHV’s at a choke point where there is a tight lane of travel.

Why would anyone believe you? -
Get in shape, get your vehicles ready. Review your optics, tripods, heads etc. Do some shooting too. Keep us posted! Many people, governmental and private will help you should your friend ask. Saw some Kowa Highlanders in the classifieds ........... sheep tag would be a great excuse to acquire some.

Weasel. I've seen them in 27 and 1. Usually at 9000+ feet although I did see one 1/2 mile upstream of Buffalo Crossing on the Black River. Spent a lot of time in that country many years ago. Very unusual to see one, probably seen three or four in my life, all in their summer coats. Ermine is a weasel in it's white color phase. In winter, weasels turn white. Saw an Ermine/weasel riding up the ski lift at Sunrise in the late 70's. Surprised the heck out of me, only one I've ever seen. White as the snow with a black tipped tail. Hope you get a picture.

No luck posting multiple photo's. Here is one "deployed".

Nobody I know has a CC charge for sheep. Got one friend who is close to max pts. who applied on paper. He's my only hope. LOL Congrats to all who drew.

Hunted the Save and Lemco 10 years back. Owners were concerned then that they'd lose their land. It's a dang shame.

+1 Not a bad idea to pick up a scale to set drag resistance. Rule of thumb is 30 to 40 percent of the line strength. A sticky drag can also be an issue. "Park" your drag when storing your reels, i.e back off the drag when not in use. Hope you get a chance to land the line breakers.

All your questions are irrelevant. #1, you've got to acquire the tag. Unless you've got a health issue or KNOW you'll be unavailable during the month of December, it is imperative you apply for a sheep hunt every year. People who are 5 or 6 points off of max points literally stand no chance of making it to max points in a lifetime of applying. Roll the dice, apply for a sheep unit that historically has tags left in the 1-2 pass. When and if you ever draw, take out a line of credit, whatever it takes. The sheep bug bites hard.
-
As I recall there are 150+/- max point holders. My best guess (based on the G&F reports) is that 80+ can only apply for Rocky tags. The rest are applying for desert sheep. Figure another 5 years and max points for desert sheep should drop down 1 click. That guess also depends on what G&F does when the draw gets modified next year.

Picked up a few of this & that. I do realize it IS a donation but like the Powerball, we are buying the dream. Reality will come soon enough.
