All else being equal, there is no substitute for aperture AND magnification assuming the atmosphere will allow it. Spotters bridge the gap between 15's and a big eye setup. I would love to have a high quality pair of "big eyes" but they would be a bear to pack and pricey too. Spotter is light and does not require a massive tripod and head (more weight). Personally, I owned a Swaro spotter for 10 years before I learned to use it. A spotter comes into it's own at about a mile, at a mile 15's begin to lose out. I find myself using a spotter more often than not when going long. Although I've got some 15 X swaro's that are really nice, I still usually end up carrying 10 X 50 SLC's with and old AT scope using newer eyepieces. BTW, my AT 80 with the newer eyepieces is fabulous! I am always amazed how sharp this scope is, even with my uncorrected astigmatism issues. It is superior to my SLC's optically IMO.

ASU needs good linemen on both sides of the ball. Sutton gained weight and lost a step. Notre Dame had Kelly running for his life all night. Wisconsin, Stanford and Notre Dame all have better line play than lesser programs. USC has athletes but apparently no direction. Grahams recruiting classes will begin to show up next year. We'll see. Meantime it is fun to watch but disappointing at times. Come 11/30 we'll find out who owns the cup for another year. Look forward to grinding on cat lovers whenever possible.

Great looking sheep, a real bruiser. It was nice to share a table with you & your wife at the banquet. Again, congratulations on a really nice ram.

Devil defense does give up too many big plays. Fortunately they also scooped up 4 turnovers. Good enough tonight.

Although I detest U of A fans, still root for the cats when playing out of state teams. Sooooo for all you cat fans: too bad, so sad. lol

Santa Catalina Bighorn Restoration Project

Sheep on the mountain makes for a better mountain! -
No doubt the officials screwed up. Wisconsin QB did not help his teams situation by placing the ball on the ground. Obviously it confused both the officials and the Devil defense. Precious time was lost. Devils did outplay Wisconsin but in the end Wisconsin put themselves in position to win. Too bad the officials stole their opportunity. Wisconsin faithful have a right to be livid. As a devil fan, I was appalled by coaching decisions coming from our sideline. Graham and his assistants need to evaluate themselves after this one. Devils should have had a double digit win on Saturday night.

Hope it's not some highly virulent pathogen. BTW, is it my imagination or is that a big ol' bear dining on that carcass?

Sweet shooter, got a 657 myself. No longer made in 8-3/8". Took me two years to find a 8-3/8". Good luck with the sale.

I've got a copy of Tom Saad's book Kofa Kings. Tom has a full page photo of the Dees ram and another page devoted to it and the Rudd ram also taken on the Kofa in 65. Horn lengths, base and 1st quarter measurements are mentioned for both rams. The Dees ram is still the biggest known sheep to come from the Kofa. Book claims the ram was taken in Surprise canyon.

Sighting in my bow, and getting frustrated...
Swivelhead replied to ylclaret's topic in The Campfire
A relaxed shot is the goal. Be honest with yourself, if you are uncomfortable and stressing at the point of release that is likely your grouping problem. Let the bow do the work. Relax and let the shot happen. -
A good friend of mine was killed by a "road hunter" (in NY), the guy took a shot at a buck in a field and missed the deer hitting my friend center chest as he sat in the treeline.... So Yeah, I have no love for "roadhunters"... A "hunter"running the roads, dirt or paved, looking to shoot game is NOT hunting, and is no better then poachers looking to take the easy way...IMHO MuleDeerArea33 I respect your efforts to continue hunting for your Dad, but your method is not only illegal, but very dangerous... My only issue with road hunters IS the safety issue. Especially with firearms. Road hunters happen onto a situation and are totally focused on the game at hand and are oblivious to anything else. BTW, road hunting has been perfected by Utah bow hunters. Those of you who've been there know what I'm talking about. lol

I'd say get a quality spotter. Tripod mounted 10x42's are very capable. A spotter (atmospheric conditions withstanding) will x-ray hillsides at long range, verify trophy quality, etc. Spotters take some getting used to and with practice it's not difficult to use one all day. Many times I've glassed areas with 15's then broke out the spotter and found bedded game that the bino's did not reveal. Magnification has it's place.

Swarmed by Fish while doing a maintenence Dive @ work
Swivelhead replied to Gut Pile's topic in Fishing
I believe those are white bass. Lake Pleasant I assume? -
Hopefully the new generation will have more than 15mm eye relief.

I strongly recommend you send them to Swarovski. Other than OEM's there are only a handful of reliable bino repair facilities in the US. None in AZ that I am aware of.

I've not heard of a 60mm Swaro scope (that does not mean much). Could be the older ST or AT 80 which are gray in color. Great scopes which usually go for $800 +/-. HD go for a little more. You might consider getting a serial # and emailing Swarovski USA. Likely they'll get back to you within 24 hours. Good luck.

Well done! Congrats to all.

Probably ought to find a less frustrating way to scout.
