Yep... Heck just sitting for hours at a time cold or not any discomfort can change a bunch on your ability to pull your bow
And the one shot that people do not practice the most at is that first "cold" shot..Shoot once see how well you do
r one practice what you will hunt at...to many practice at one weight and then turn up the poundage right before this is actually not a good thing...When you are dialed in and hitting comfortable and can hold a drawn bow for 30 seconds and still hit the kill zone ..then you are hunting with more confidence and better odds at being more successful when your chance comes
Practice bundled up looking like the Michelin man
Sounds good! I have been sitting in a chair practicing at home. I am also holding every draw I do back for 10 seconds at a time building that strenght and durance up.

now that I am on my Laptop
Another one is turn down your bows poundage just a little bit, Where you can hold the bow up and pull straight back with out having to move the bow much if at all this will also let you shoot in a smaller area...Remember speed doesn't kill accuracy does I pull 50lbs and have harvested/killed many animals from deer in Texas to Musk Ox in Nunavut Canada and Deer in Ohio and Elk and Mulie in AZ plus quite a few other exotic animals in Texas
The tightest area are the tree stands in Ohio and being able to pull straight back with out any extra movement
One of my biggest pet peeve with some blinds is how short the windows are...Ameristeps when they first came out were the worst if I sat up comfortable I could only see the ground about 2 feet out from the window
I completely agree with the poudage! Accuracy kills not speed. My bow is 53 pounds and will only go to 60. I am working my way up but what a lot of hunters do not realize is that when you sitting freezing that 60 pound pull feels like 90 hahaha. I am so excited about this year. Thank you for your advice!

Thank youguys for replying so far. Good points. This weekend I will use my chair and practice from the blind. The hardest part is going to be pulling that bow back sitting down hahaha.
-
I have a nice buck coming in everyday and don't want to mess this up.
-
I have heard that being up that close, those suckers spot your movement. Am I going to have to lay on the ground and pull my bow back or what lol?
-
I am so use to standing up and shooting from a tree stand. I am going to be practicing sitting on the ground and build my strenght before Jan 1st but I just don't know any tips on how to pull it back in the blind with a buck 10 to 20 yards from me.

Help or tips is greatly appreciated!

That is an awesome story... and it is even cooler to me because it also happened to me and my dad this year.
Opening morning my dad was on his way to his glassing spot... 100 yards from the cliff edge he picks up a perfect set of drops (about the size of your Dad's shed). Excited, he puts them in his pack and continues on. As it turns out, they were a good omen. About an hour later, my dad shot the buck that dropped those sheds from his glassing point. The buck was 200 yards beneath him as he glassed from the bluff.
Congrats to your Dad on a cool story
Congrats to you and your dad! That is an awesome story! Just the odds of that happening are actually pretty rare in Arizona.

Cool story, thx for shareing....I once tripped over a skull, and then found a shed off the buck 10 feet from his skull..... You just never know, darn right!
I think coues bucks have a smaller core home range than most people relize
But heck... what do I know.
It is true. I know that back east even in the mid-west, whitetails have a roaming range of about 2 miles for their life. Keep in mind that these facts are from books that I have read. However, I know that these little coues are the same as the white tail back east when it comes to natural instincts. I do believe though that these coues deer are tougher and more intelligent than the whitetails of the mid-west and back east. Hint they're little "Ghosts". I am glad you liked this story! I get a kick out of it and still to this day my dad can't believe it lol

doubt the shed is from the same deer, genetics have a lot to do with antler growth, I've taken deer out of the same area from the same bloodline and the antlers are mirrors, like the ones in your pictures.
I understand your point. I have been hunting this mountain for about 4 years now. I also know every buck where I hunt. There are no other bucks on the mountain I hunt with dual eye gaurds like that. Trust me it is the exact deer. My father found the shed a year later after he shot it in the same spot pretty much.

Two bulls were talking. The younger bull said why dont we RUN over to the cows and kiss one of them? The older and wiser bull said why dont we WALK over there and kiss em all?
Hahaha

I was at a Easter get together and a bobcat attacked one of the kids and I killed it with my pocket knife. Scrappy little boogers.
Wow! I'm sorry :/. Did it have rabies?

About 4 years ago my father and I began to hunt coues deer. Opening morning my father shot this buck with a bow. I asked my father this " Dad, what do you think the odds of finding a shed from this buck would be?". To my surprise my father responded back "What kind of dumb question is that?". I laughed and he said "Don't ask me stupid questions like that, the odds are 1 to a million". That was the total conversation. Hunting season came the next year and we went to our spot. Hiking to our tree stands, my father stumbles across this shed. The words out of his mouth "I don't believe this! You know what son! Your a #&!%!! Hahaha". The moral of the story is never give up dreaming wild and big because you never know what will happen. I will remember this to the day I die and will someday pass this story down to my kids someday .

Good point. Exactly how far north do you plan on hunting? I hunt unit 22 and I always have great deer activity.
-
How popular/successful is bow hunting for deer in the northern units during January? If the snow depth is not too awful, I was thinking of giving it a try.
Any feedback or experiences to share?
I always hunt up north. Where exactly are you planning on hunting up north?

I chased down a bear in my underwear while barking... it climbed the tree right next to the truck. This was after I was awoken at 5am to the breathing sound of a bear 10' from my sleeping bag. Need I say, he woke up the wrong dude....
Haha dang! That would be frightening.

I kicked up a group of javelina and they had some babies. I froze and then made a " waw woooofff " sound. I heard it will irritate the javelina who is the leader. Sure enough the lead javelina turned around and ran towards me and stopped about five feet in front of me trying to figure out where the noise came from haha. I have also heard javelina bark like dogs before. My father was with me and was like what in the world!

Just wondering if any of you out there are crazy? haha Feel free to share any insane stories or crazy things you have done out in the wilderness!! Should be some awesome stories to read.

Listen to "oneshot". Hunt near the water holes in the summer if you do not get a deer in January. When the rut hits and you see scrapes, you would be out of your mind to not hunt that scraped area. In the rut those bucks will go out of their way to find them doe. Good luck and I would recommend a tree stand or blind cause the stock and spot in the rut is going to be pretty difficult.
-
Just was wondering if anybody had any luck in rattling coues deer?? If so were they mature bucks or younger ones?? What was your method??
My buddy rattles and said that it works great for him. Usually rut hit within a few days before January 1st or a little after. That has been what I have seen for the last 4 years. Anytime around those dates depending on when your unit allows you to hunt I would rattle. I prefer Doe Bleats to be honest. those coues deer are horny little ghosts and don't be surprised to see a spike come in your area and then a bigger buck behind him.

I have had only luck using a doe bleat. My father has as well. He called in two bucks within minutes of a doe bleat. I have used a doe bleat before and caused two bucks to get into a fight .

There is a G&F officer that trolls this site and will give you nasty phone calls and accuse you of baiting on forest service land... becareful posting pics with feeders, feed, or salt on here regardless of where the photos are from or whose photos they are.
Okay well thank you for your informing me. I will take them down this weekend.
-
Thank you so far for all the replies. I am getting an idea of that this buck is around 90 inches which is exactly what I have been trying to find. Although I have many other nice bucks that are going to be hard to pass up. Sorry about the same post multiple times. I am still getting use to how this website works.
-
92 inches , But to bad he is only feeding at night. You need to get rid of the giant pvc feeders and begin only feeding them what they can eat during the day light hours. Just FYI. You should be careful useing those types of feeders on Forest service lands !!! That is if he is on forest.
Don't worry to much haha. I take them down after hunting season. For now they have to do till I am done with college. Now explain more on how you would recommend I feed them? You mean like spread the corn around on the ground so they must search for it or requires more work?

I left at 5am with my girlfriend to go swap chips in my camera. I experiences the entire lunar eclipse which was awesome! Believe it or not I had does and bucks there during the lunar eclipse and they were there 10 min before I made it to my blind which was at 8:30 am.
