Put a dutchoven on your stove, get it hot with oil in it. Roll the roast around in flour, salt and pepper and brown all sides in the hot dutchoven. Take it off the stove, add some beef broth and throw in carrots potatoes and onion. Put the lid on and stick it in the oven set to about 325 for a few hours.

Shoot it out further and see how it groups. If it holds half MOA to 500, who cares. If there is that much deviation, i would think you would have a hard time shooting that well at 100 even. Chronos get you close, but best to true your velocity by shooting different ranges. Just 10-20 fps can make a lot of difference downtown

better go more than just a couple miles to relocate them. they'll come back

I've got a couple leg hold jaw traps you can borrow

tough hunt. it can really pay off if you hit it hard. the elk population is better than it was when i had the tag.

My lapua likes 89 grains behind a 285 a max. For a lighter bullet, try a little more, a heavier bullet, try a little less

RMEF and BHA (backcountry hunters and anglers) need to become aware of this situation if they aren't already -
Since the fire, the huge majority of elk spend all winter on top. That being said, we are now one nasty winter from the elk dropping back into the lower country during the late hunt, as the feed in the burns is less abundant every year as the new undergrowth is getting bigger and choking out a lot of the feed the was coming up in the burns. maybe this year is the year the elk drop off. i sure hope so. that hunt has been a slaughter since the burn and those elk need to drop into the lower, nasty country with less access to end the slaughter. most people are not willing to do what it takes to kill bulls once they drop off the rim

just out of curiosity, how many BP's do you guys getting buffalo hits have?

I heard from a reliable source tonight that the wolf count is over 800. They only tell the public that they know of a fraction of that nimber

unit 1 is all Rocky, as is 27 i would think. when i think of a true desert buck, i see a really low desert deer. under 2,500' elevation or so. their bodies are usually a lot smaller and their antlers USUALLY lack the mass that rockys get. genetically, i doubt if there is any difference at all in the two subspecies. the desert deer probably just lack body size and antler mass due to nutrition. there is a lot more to eat and a lot more water in higher elevations

Good ol' Nelson's. Heard there is no limit on trout there anymore? Trying to get all the fish out of it to put some stupid minnow in there? Anyone know if that's true? Used to fish that lake a LOT as a kid. Caught some big trout out of it
-
whoa, i din't say that was the case. just looked that way with the ears being up. way to hide behind a fake name jackin. those are both monster bucks. congrats and thanks for clarification

is it just me, or does the one on the left look like a shoulder mount being held next to a carcass?

Colburn's kid killed a really impressive buck as well. the amount of big bucks hitting the dirt on the strip this year is unreal

i saw the ROBO-BUCK in 27 last year. they always set it up somewhere between strayhorse and hagen. i was alerted that it was up ahead and made sure not to incriminate myself in any way. rolled to a slow stop and i could see G&F scurrying around in the bushes. yelled "gotta try harder than that" and went down the road. heard they issued like 15 tickets in one morning. Ironically, the G&F truck that set up the sting that day slid off the road and down the hill a ways and ran into a big ponderosa when they were taking the decoy back to the office.

Opinions vary. i guess some people don't pick up on sarcasm

The further north you go, the earlier the deer rut. bucks on the Kaibab and strip start rutting in November.
