    30-06 for coues

Generally heavy bullets expand a lot less than light bullets and cause less meat damage due to lower velocities.. A 180 out of an ultra mag traveling at 3,500 fps, compared to one out of a 30-06 traveling 2700 fps, will be much more destructive. Velocity is what causes bullets of all weights to expand and cause damage.

    Hunt from horse back

like Murph said, 21 probably isn't the best unit to pack horses into. units with wilderness areas, and big tracts of roadless country are the units you would want to pack in to. horses really do pay off when you get an animal knocked down, especially elk. i packed in 8-9 miles last year on mules/horses into a wilderness area and still saw a few people hunting in there. somtimes they an really pay off, but a lot of the time they are more trouble than they are worth

    It only took 47 years!

running your numbers, you had a .3% chance of drawing that tag. time to admit it was luck and not "playing your odds"

I don't know anything about this hunt, but the jay scott podcast about buffalo hunting with Russ Jacoby was really good. He gives his contact info at the end and said he will be glad to help anyone out, even if you don't book a hunt with him. It would be a good start for sure. The guy sounds like a buffalo nut

How you play your odds? Of course, you can't waste BP on a unit that fills up with max point holders, but how exactly do you "play the odds" with sheep. Without max, you are looking at about.1-2% draw odds accross the board, no matter how many BP you have. Unless you hold max for sheep, BP's don't really matter in any unit.

    Leica range finder 1000

    Bugles in July

Bulls and cows communicate year round. That's all it is though. Not a sign of an "early rut" or anything of that matter

    It only took 47 years!

When 3 of the 5 guides at arizona desert outfitters (they specialize in bighorn hunts) draw sheep tags in the same year, one of them won the super raffle sheep tag just a couple years ago. Something smells really fishy about that

    Card hit!

You burned 10 BP on Kaibab archery?

    Cards are getting hit!

you drew 13a or 13b. the only way you could draw 7, 3rd choice is if it was a 100% draw, and it is not. How would it be known what the odds were for this draw? They wont post until next draw??? You can go off of last years odds but with 1000 tags he could have hit this year on 3rd choice??? Am I wrong? Not positive but its what I was understanding. It is possible, anything is possible dealing with AZGF.....not very though. they upped the tags from 875 to 1025. last year there were 3,051 1st and 2nd choice applicants. the hunt would have to have a 60% reduction in applications for that scenario to play out. since 2010 the unit has seen a steady, but slow rise in people applying for that tag. in the last five years, the lowest number of first and 2nd choice applications was 2,377. with that number, the unit would have seen it's best draw success rate, but still probably somewhere in the 40% range which would still make it mathematically impossible to draw with a 3rd choice. Impossible? No...Unlikely? yes. extremely
