I have an 8x42 pair of the older razors i might be willing to part with
-
my friends from colorado burned 11 bp on a late bull tag here in AZ they could have had with 7. called G&F immediately, same story.
-
almost as bad as when animals knock them around is when salt hungry horses, cattle and cow elk discover the salt. there are a lot of horses and mules running around where i run cameras and they are very hard on them, especially the mules. they will dissolve a mineral rock in a matter of days, chew up a camera and the worst thing is, they run off the deer and bears that are on the salt. the best solution i have found is to hang your camera 8-10 feet off the ground and angle it down slightly

there was a change in hunt numbers for colorado elk this year. it caused many people with 15-20 bp to apply for cow hunts with left over permits. luckily in colorado, people can give their tag back without being penalized. i could not imagine the outcry that it would cause here where you don't have that luxury.

That is a great write up. draw system explained again. I'll go ahead and save jhedg the work of posting. "But what about not being drawn for a hunt with leftover tags?"
-
at least you were due. congrats on the tag
-
Jhedg, there are anomalies that nobody can explain. No system is perfect and there will be flaws and mistakes made by the draw system. I'm not going to try to explain anything else on this thread. We are not the ones that "screwed" your buddy out of a tag
-
squared BP is exactly what it sounds like. If you had 5 years of applying, you would have 25 "chances" of getting drawn more or less. The majority of tags would go to people with a good amount of BP's, just how it should be. There is still a chance of being drawn with 0-2 bp, just not nearly as good.
-
BC, you are correct. I applied for 27 late bull with 7bp and was not drawn. According to last year's draw report i should have got drawn this year. Things do change year to year with more/less tags allotted for each hunt and how many people applied with x amount of BP's. I am not b1tching and moaning about it or anything. I understand how the draw works pretty well and the hunters trailhead that i recommended helped with that, jhedg. I think if everyone understood it a little better there would be a lot less to discuss on here. I do however hate the fact that with 18bp for antelope i still have around only 1-3% chance of drawing a good rifle tag. The nevada system of squared bonus points seems really good to me. Every year, your chances of getting drawn go up exponentially. Unless you have enough points to make the bonus pass for a hunt (or very near the number) BP's really do not do you much good. The difference in having 0BP and 15BP could mean you only have fraction of one percent better chance of getting drawn. Sometimes anomalies do occur though, like not being drawn for a hunt you applied for that had left over tags. I've seen that happen. My friend and i both put in for archery javelina. I was drawn, he was not. He did purchase a left over for the exact hunt he applied for 1st choice.

i was supposed to be in the bonus pass for the late bull tag i applied for this year. tag was a "guarantee" draw for me. did not draw. the draw system in Arizona is flawed. plain and simple. the only people that do not agree with that statement are the lucky ones that draw antelope, elk and sheep on next to zero BP. do yourself a favor and buy a membership to hunters trailhead. saves a lot of time and headaches in determining what to apply for, and what your true odds of drawing are

Better put him down then.

COMMISSIONERS EMAILS STOP PUSHING ARCHERY ELK BACK!
GreyGhost85 replied to SirRoyal's topic in Elk Hunting
I think if it's done, it needs to be across the boards. I like the idea of the trophy hunt first. It gives the trophy hunters that have waited 15-20 first crack at the big bulls, which they deserve, and in return, the bowhunters get to hunt the best part of the rut. I am myself and avid bowhunter and a member of the Arizona Bowhunters Association. -
AZGF gift card-not fair for Jr hunters
GreyGhost85 replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in The Campfire
Whoa Shooter. Arizona provides some GREAT youth hunting opportunities. So what if they are not eligible for a freebie gift card? Youth hunting and involvement is one of the only things AZGFD does right. Give all the kids tags because they are not eligible to win a gift card? give me a break. -
a couple of those bulls will be giants
-
I usually get 1-2k pics per month per camera
-
Low 170's. Curl looks too tight for a huge score
-
Congrats. I didn't draw.
-
those late archery hunts are very difficult. there are some guys on here that hunt them every year. the bulls will not be rutting and most likely bachelored up. glass, pattern and try to get ahead of them moving between feeding/bedding areas is probably your best bet. the best thing about those hunts is the low pressure
-
pretty sure there aren't many, if any bulls running around that would score 320 right now. if so, it would be a monster. i would say, they might score about 50% of finished right now
-
you can run cameras 365 days a year if you like. i run mine probably 6 months out of the year. june-august and december-february usually. i don't like to have them out during hunting season, and march-may nothing to really look at.
-
I believe that's a 6.oh no
-
Probably a lion

I'm shooting a new Burris veracity 5-25 on my .338 Lapua. Has all the great features you look for (ffp, great zero stop, good reticle, etc) for a hair under 1k. I like it better than the vortex pst. I think once these scopes catch on, a lot of people will be shooting them
-
i might be wrong, but unless you are packed waaay in and can't get the antlers cold, do not attempt the formaldehyde injections. get those velvet antlers cold, preferably frozen, asap
-
Great mount. Maybe even better than R&R could do...lol
