well, 6 of us went hunting for hogs this weekend on a ranch that runs a "semi" guided pig hunting operation...these hogs are not high fenced and we actually hunted pretty hard prior to the actual shooting of our pigs. we ended up taking 3. 2 of them were 200 pound boars, and one was a sow that was pushing 400 pounds. these pigs are not feral, but all were a mix of a few different breeds of european hogs. mine took one shot out of my .264, and it dumped him. the hunt was an absolute riot and i am really looking forward to doing it again next year.

sweet mounts...how did you preserve the velvet? -
casey...look around on the interent and do some research...the guys at the best of the west prefer a high shoulder shot on their animals......and everything they shoot just crumbles....the shoulder is the toughest part of an animal and if you can drive a bullet through a shoulder of an elk at 6,7,or even 800 yards, i consider that a GREAT bullet...my brother shot a bull elk with a 180 grain accubond out of his christiansen arms 300 rum this year at 817 yards....shot almost all the way through it....and even he is considering berger bullets now because of their extremely high BC and their PROVEN results...if i can get target bullet accuracy out of a DEVISTATING hunting bullet, you bet your @$$ thats what im goin to be shootin...check out the highlight reel at bergerbullets.com....

the highlight reel of these bullets is amazing and the VLD's ARE made for big game hunting....i ordered 200, 130 grain VLD's for my .264 and as soon as i get my rifle back from the gunsmith (muzzle brake) i will have a full report on them...i plan on shooting my javi with them this month and a european boar with them near the end of march...the boar will really test if they are a "target" or a "hunting" bullet

i shoot a 17 hmr and love it.....have never had to track anything i shoot with it....killed a coyote at about 200 yards with it and it dumped him.... -
the way i see it is that it is getting harder and harder to draw tags in arizona and the december archery hunt is a gift to all of us that dont get to hunt with a rifle in december....i know that if i was the one with a premium december rifle coues tag i would not be complaining about a few stick flingers trying to put some meat on their table too! the only difference between you and them, is they were not blessed with a PREMIUM tag this year, so they are trying to make the best out of what is given to them...

i saw a mule deer very similar to what you described.....im sure it was an antlered doe, because it had a suckling fawn...it also had two really skinny almost sickly looking spikies for antlers

HMMMM is right

-
ive got an aluminum bedding block in my rifle....seems to work great and shoots 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards...dont know if it makes any difference, and i would agree that if it aint broke, dont fix it...

Point of Impact Change with Diff Rests
GreyGhost85 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
thats interesting that you bring that up...i shoot a .264, which i believe is very similar in ballistics to your 6.5.....i have a zeiss with the turrets and have shot out to 500 using them, just off of sandbags and shot about a 2 inch group at 400 and a 3-4 inch group at 500...i plan on really doing some more serious shooting this week and i'll let you know the results -
i shoot a .264 and could give you a recipe for some killer reloads if you can find someone to stuff em for you....nosler also makes custom ammunition in the 120 ballistic tips....pricey though!

TYSON WINS! GAME OVER!

139 will work perfectly...i know someone who killed a big bull at 400 plus yards with a 100 grain bullet out of a 270 wsm....it got mixed up with the 130's somehow.....its all about shot placement

nice...love the mass/webbing on the back of the right beam..Sweet Bull and congrats
