I was shooting 340, chronographed. 31” draw 72lb PSE Omen. I had it over 350fps with 360gn arrows but it was a little hairy. I now shoot a Mathews around 410gn arrows at about 305-310

Just use a strong, sharp, fixed blade broadhead. I would honestly look at a 2-blade with a long taper if i was you. If you centerpunched a rib at 45-50 yards with a short, fat broadhead, you could be in trouble. Magnus makes some tried and true 2-blades that you won’t have to take out a loan to afford.

If you have time, definitely go for a new string. 125gn head and steel or brass inserts will bring up your weight quite a bit i would guess but with your light total weight, you are shooting arrows that are not spined very heavily and all that weight out on the end could make your arrow flight less than desirable. It is probably too late in the game to totally change your arrow set up. 369 is LIGHT for elk. I did kill a bull with 385gn arrows at around 70 yards but I was also shooting nearly 340fps.

Huh?

I have a couple single-6’s, a couple winchester lever 22mags and a PMR-30. The levers and revolvers have not left the safe since i got the Keltec. They aren’t as “sexy” as the others mentioned but they are bad@ss.

That old man has seen better days.

If you can’t shoot fast you need to shoot heavy. You only gain energy from speed and/or weight. With a heavy enough arrow out of a compound your range shouldn’t hinder you much. People kill stuff with recurves all the time.

I have a set of Vortex Kaibab 15X56 i would like to sell. I sent them off to vortex less than a year ago and they came back basically new. New lenses, new armor. Glass is 99%, only reason i say it's not 100% is because anything used cannot be 100%. I have the original box, paperwork and case. I will also include a Jim White style tripod adaptor. $900. Call or text me at 602-376-6278

Yeah, not a “hunt”. Just a freezer filler. His favorite are Eland cows. Claims it’s the best table fare in the world. And they are BIG

there is a guy out of Montana that everyone sends their Doctor 15's to get worked on. Can't remember his name but i'm sure someone on here has used him

i know a guy that goes to Texas every year and whacks some female "exotic" animals to fill his freezer. cow buffalo, cow eland, nilgai, fallow/axis does. seems like he said he pays around $12-$1500 for the big animals and 3-400 for the does. a little spendy but somethin to think about maybe

Is that a coues at the bottom?!

I have the same one and love it. It is a beast.

Those guys sounds like a bunch of yahoos but I wouldn’t have called G&F either. Sounds like they let their excitement get the best of them and bent a couple rules.

Holy cow. Not many people would have handled that situation the same. If he turned away and ran he woulda been lunch. That video would have been about 6 minutes shorter if i was in his shoes

Trying to obtain high FOC - without killing velocity
GreyGhost85 replied to Buckwheat893's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
FOC=more weight on the front. More weight=less speed. What is the purpose of having more “foc”? Your 412gn arrow at 289fps will kill any animal in north america. 5-6” group at 70 isn’t good enough? You sure increasing foc will be the end all? People get too caught up on the small details and forget the big picture. I’ve ran 400gn arrows through a bunch of animals and i don’t think any one of them wondered what % foc i was shooting. Sorry, FOC is a trigger term for me. -
Im in 27 right now and have a bulge. Not sure why you’re looking for one though

Although you’re not a blind sitter, if it stays dry like it has been, sitting water will probably work VERY well this year. Especially with the limited number of tags in that hunt.

Location? I’ll have to check but i think i have a brick of that

What bull is the supposed merriam’s? They both look the same
-
Not terrible but the SIG RF binos are much better for about the same price.
-
It pains me to say it but the vortex strike eagle 1-6 and 1-8 are pretty good AR scopes for the price. Under $400 new

My hunting partner has a diesel ranger that we’ve hunted out of a lot over the years. I think it’s a 2014 or so give ir take a year. I like it. Honestly they are a lot quiter than gas rangers, get MUCH better gas mileage and you don’t smell like exhaust. They don’t have the balls that a gas motor has but it’ll hit 45-50 on flat ground. Kinda slow uphill but it has never been a hinderance at all. I’m surprised they aren’t more popular to be honest.

Cameraland has some on sale right now $569. I bought one from them today actually .

I have a Leupold scope that i need to send in for repair. I went to the UPS store on Higley/Pecos on Friday to ship it to them. The girl at the counter asked me what was in the box (original packaging) and i told her "optics". She asked "what kind of optics" and i said a scope. She asked if it was possible to mount it to a firearm and i said yeah. At that point she told me "we cannot ship gun parts that can be assembled into a weapon and kill people". I told her she was crazy in more or less terms and informed her that i receive ammo and gun part shipments via-ups all the time and asked to speak to the manager. The manager comes out (a +- 25 year old soy boy that looks like he spends his nights "protesting") and asks me the same questions. I opened the box and he jumped back like it was a bomb and he started getting pretty mouthy and was treating me like i was a criminal and trying to get away with something illegal. There were several other customers in the store that were getting uneasy as well because i was a big, bad gun owner trying to assemble parts into a weapon of mass destruction. At that point i told he/she/him/her/zer/zim, whatever the f@ck they considered themselves to go f@ck themselves and walked out. Unbelievable what this world is coming to. USPS came out in support of Biden and now UPS won't ship gun parts? I guess that leaves me with Fed-Ex. I'm guessing this is a franchised store that made up this rule and not a national policy but they won't be getting any more of my business.
