Favorite Elk Bullet? Average shot distance in AZ?
GreyGhost85 replied to excaliber's topic in Elk Hunting
i watched 2 bulls get shot with 200gn ELDX bullets out of a 300RUM this year at 475 and 540. they hit really hard and killed both elk but neither exited. One bull was shot through the shoulders and was DRT. Most bullets will not shoot through elk shoulders anyways so i wasn't too concerned. The bull that was 540 yards away was hit a bit far back (liver shot) first and he ran a couple hundred yards and bedded up. had to shoot him again at about 250 yards. 2nd shot was behind the shoulder. left a hole bigger than a softball on entrance and liquefied his lungs but didn't exit. he was angled away so the fragments probably ended up in the offside shoulder. I would not hesitate shooting them at elk BUT there are bullets that will penetrate better. i honestly prefer bullets that fragment but only after they've penetrated far enough to get into the vitals -
That bottom smallmouth is a chunk!

I’ve never seen a ring that could plug a hole

Use em for a castration band. You’ll just have to have them resized a little smaller.

wanted: Taxidermist with freeze dryer for velvet
GreyGhost85 replied to ZJARCHER's topic in Classified Ads
Yes, I am aware of that. I am also aware that a lot of reputable taxidermists that do not have have a freeze dryer just leave them in their freezer for a year before they mount them. -

Yeah, mogollon. You can do it yourself. Just leave the antlers in the freezer uncovered for a year or more. I’ve done that with several bucks and they’ve always held up good. Sounds like the 2018 buck should be done. -
Didn’t Utah lift the ban on modern muzzleloaders a couple years ago? I think you can use whatever there now. 1000 yard rifles and 100 yard bows are putting a much larger dent in game populations than the people with 500 yard muzzleloaders. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to limit the technology used on muzzleloaders for hunting because there is no way to limit it on rifles and bows other than taking away the use of scopes or sights.

I’d place a large bet that we can time Buster’s responses to the commercial breaks in the democratic debate tonight.....

I was taught that Christopher Columbus discovered America and he and the Native Americans lived in perfect harmony.

Yeah, there was a big to-do about that buck for a little while. None of us had ever seen a coues with that big of a frame or body before. Turns out, it was 100% coues. I think he was right at 20" inside. crazy

nobody ever knows what predator is talking about.

they don't make them much prettier or symmetrical than that one! looks low to mid teens to me as well. far stretch from the biggest 3-point ever but that doesn't take anything away from him. This buck that my brother helped on i think might have been one of the biggest 3-points at the time it was killed (early 2000's) but there have been several since that are bigger. i think he netted mid-high 120's if i remember right.

Sooooo..... when humans feed animals, it prevents human interaction? Ever heard the whole “a fed bear is a dead bear” slogan? Why would it not apply to a wolf?
-
You know what should happen? They should treat them like actual wild animals and stop feeding them all together.

He sent me an odd PM as well about a gun.

Lazzeroni 7.82 warbird
GreyGhost85 replied to greg.shrum's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Those Lazzeroni rifles were pretty cool and way ahead of the times. I'd be leery of buying one now because there are so many cartridges that will do the same thing without the headaches of trying to find brass, current load data, etc. -
That’s a push

Aren’t they less than that new?
