The biggest sheep in the state 2 years in a row has come out of 28south. The 2018 ram dang near broke 190” and it had around 5” busted off on one side. I was fortunate enough to handle it when we were checking in my buddy’s sheep with G&F. Absolutely unbelievable ram

Crazy that there are 19 people 1 BP behind max for sheep because they don’t have their hunter ed! Come on knuckle heads.

i shoot 13gn ELD-M out of my .264 win mag at about 3300fps. i've shot 3 different coues from 460 to 670 and all have been 1 shot DRT with big pass throughs on all of them.
-
Just scout until you find coues, and spend time in there. I hunt a unit that is pockety as well. There will be coues in one canyon or on one ridge and none on the other ridges or canyons around that spot

28bp’s for javelina? Best thing i’ve heard all day. That is an EXPENSIVE pig tag. 49 for buffalo is insane
-
what is max for sheep and bison this year? sheep has got to be about 30? I have no idea what bison would be since you can acquire 2 points a year
-
Get the tag before you worry about logistics of the hunt

They work well. They do expand quite a bit (which i prefer personally) but in 200gn, you shouldn’t have any problem with any north american game animal. My hunting partner shot his desert bighorn at about 400 yards with the same bullet out on an ultra mag. Small entrance and about a silver dollar exit. Worked great.

That is pretty wild. How far from civilization is it?

10mm for grizzly bear defense
GreyGhost85 replied to bojangles's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I like how everyone that goes to Alaska thinks they are going to be in a firefight with bears every day. Lol. I’m going to Kodiak island in November 2020 and have not lost a second of sleep over what sidearm to pack. -
i run the summit GTX. they are comfortable but have basically zero ankle support. i've had them through 3 seasons now and they still have another season of life in them. I will be trying something new this year. If i had a voucher for any crispi boot, I'd probably just go with the most expensive ones! haha

12A West Late or 12B West Late. Which one?
GreyGhost85 replied to Umpqua's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I personally would not burn them on late coues. You can draw the same units, just earlier in the year (which i prefer anyways) for 0-3 BP’s most times -
Nice job man. I love it when people run renegade on those buffalo hunts and kill one. Way to stick with it. I’ll just keep buying my bison BP’s in hope that some day the politics of that hunt end.

Pretty wild. I know him pretty well. Small world. Sounds like he shoulda pulled the trigger earlier

If i was sitting on max, i would apply for 31/32 this year. It is on the rise for sure. A young gal shot a 180" ram in there with a bow last year and there are supposed to be a good number of big rams. 22/24b might take a max holder 10 more years to draw at this rate and the biggest rams are not being killed there anymore. If you want to go guided, i would personally go with Dieringer Outfitters.

Like said above, an honest 300" bull should not be a "worst case scenario". I'd like to see the average score of bulls killed in every unit. i would guess that unit 23 (mostly due to low tag numbers and tough draw odds) is probably the only unit that MIGHT have a 300"+ average. for every 350+ bull picture you see, there are probably 100 bulls killed under 300". Every unit in arizona has 320-330 bulls, some just have more. Most early archery hunts in the state will give an archer an opportunity at that type of bull if you are willing to hunt the whole season. You will also most likely be waiting far longer than 10 years to hunt in a top tier unit, a lot of the second tier units probably take 8-10 years to get into the bonus pass. Archery elk hunting is an absolute blast. It is always cool to kill a good bull but the experience is in the hunt. The bull below probably doesn't break 300" even without the broken 4th point.

Yeah, seat belts were worn. Honestly, you can really only go fast enough where it happens to barely trigger the seat belt alarm. We were wearing them just so it would stop beeping at us. Came out ok in the end insurance wise but it was a fight. Totaling a brand new cummins with only 9k miles probably didn’t set well with my insurance company. Luckily i had some equity in it. The buck in the back was just an average 3-point muley.
-
HD or no?
-
Luckily, nothing serious. All 3 of us just had some bumps, cuts and bruises. The buck in the back of the truck even made it out

Oh, come on man. A guy drives a million miles safely but rolls his truck off one little mountain and that's all he is known for now?

I listen to more podcasts than i like to admit. Here's some that i like or dislike. The world is serious enough, funny podcasts tend to be at the top of my list anymore I mostly stay away from meateater anymore (also since i saw him live). I'll listen to one every now again if it is an interesting topic. he sold out Ryan Callaghan started one called "Cal's Week in Review" that is fun to listen to. short, 20-30 minute podcasts about current events in the outdoor world. Epic Outdoors - Jason Carter and Adam Bronson. This one is ok. I prefer it over Jay Scott for sure Gritty Bowmen - I used to listen to it when Aron Snyder was on it but not anymore. Brian Call really sold out. Wouldn't recommend anymore unless you want to hear about how fit he is or how you need to use more MTN OPS. Kifaru Cast is pretty good. i really like Aron Snyder. Uncensored and he tells it the way he sees it. Won't promote a BS item or take any sponsor money. Joe Rogan love it when the guest interests me The Fighter and the Kid - Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen. ALWAYS good for a laugh or three Below the Belt - for people that interested in boxing or mma King and the Sting - Theo Von and Brendan Schaub. Hilarious podcast but mostly nonsense. you might lose brain cells listening to it True Crime all the Time- Mostly about serial killers. Pretty interesting Hardcore History- great podcasts. Dan Carlin is awesome. the podcasts are LOOOONG and he only puts out a couple a year.

Although I am not very familiar with either unit, i would say that you are on the right track with burning your points this year. We might not see this much moisture again for a LOOOONG time -
It was still running a little higher than normal but was not much of a hindrance. It has subsided a LOT since the last trip i made. The clarity was pretty good but still not as clear as it usually is. There was a strange gray colored "slime" that was starting to develop on some of the plants that was a bit of a concern. it wasn't the usual moss/slime that develops in the river when water temperature starts to rise. Not sure what it is but i hope it isn't some strange type of algae bloom that kills off fish
