I bet that a big percentage of kids that take the online portion get a lot of help from their parents. Theyre going to learn their ethics, laws, sportsmanship and safety from being in the field with an adult anyways, not a computer screen. Give the kid some coaching and get him through the class and out in the field where you can teach him the laws of the land. No need to get G&F involved. Dont want to ruin a potential sportsman and conservationist because he doesnt computer well.

After 14 years and 2,000+ posts, i don’t even feel like i contribute enough to ask for unit specific information. I did hear a rumor that all the coues migrated out of 27 and ended up in unit 31, on top of mount graham and they water at riggs lake.

Coati down!!
GreyGhost85 replied to brademan76's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I can't imagine losing 3 dogs to one based on what I observed with their teeth and skull/jaw anatomy- they've got claws but they aren't going to kill anything with those either like a bear or cat might... Were they hounds or teacup yorkies or what? He did get ahold of one before I intervened and it was able to hobble off... bit him on his muzzle but wasn't much of a wound. It did swell up pretty good though so I've got him on antibiotics to avoid a bad infection. They were lion/bear hounds. Good ones too. It was a great big, lone male. Looked like it latched on to the dogs and scratched their stomachs out with it’s claws. One dog died on site, another a few hours later and one a couple days later from infection if i remember right. Really a bad deal. The real big ones probably push 25-30lbs. Last one i shot was somewhere in that range i bet -

Congrats. They are cool critters. Ive killed a few over the years. You are REALLY lucky one didnt get ahold of your dog. They are HEII on them. Id rather my dog tangle with a lion i think. My buddy lost 3 hounds to one a few years ago. -

What do you bear guys think about these two?
GreyGhost85 replied to mattys281's topic in Trail Cameras
He could be bigger than my guess but i am real cautious of ever throwing out the 400lb number on bears. Here is one i feel is 400lbs just for comparison. -

Both are pretty good bears. I think the bottom one is bigger. Looks like it has some age on it. The top bear looks like a sow and the bottom a boar, IMO. I would say the top bear is around 200-250lbs and the bottom on the neighborhood of 300. Could be wrong though -
I watched 3 chase a small herd of bulls in the unit 1 late hunt. No collars

Ive killed em with about everything, including a 9mm handgun. The only one that went awry was a .243 with a 60gn hollow point at less than 20 yards. I drilled him with the first shot and when i bent down to handle him he hopped up and ran. Had to shoot him again.

I use a portaband on the shanks. Sawzall with a fine tooth blade works well too

Wtf did i just spend time reading. Homeboy passes, then gets passed and complains. If you take the lead in nascar, it doesnt mean the other cars cant pass you later on. Sounds like you drive fast and hike slow, maybe try reversing your strategy. If i run in to other hunters in my area, it motivates me to find a new spot. Throw a camp on your back and hike in. You wont have any more issues with other hunters.

I had bad results with nitto terra grapplers on my 2500 ram diesel. 15k miles and wore out. I rotate religiously too

Never heard of dinalli wheels?

It could be more so that the deer arent in that area this time of year, than a lion showing up. I have never seen that big of an impact on deer traffic when a lion shows up on camera

Looking for recommendations on a builder
GreyGhost85 replied to yotebuster's topic in Long Range Shooting
Western Precison is in Safford AZ. Brent Jacob is the owner. Great guy. I know for a fact he can do what you are looking for because my dad had a nearly identical rifle built by him. He bought a pre 64 300h&h that somebody turned into a 300h&h improved. He had Brent spin a new barrel on it and turned it into a 375h&h. Kept the same barrel contour and reused the original wood stock. Cerakoted it to resemble the original factory finish. Really sharp rifle and a heck of a shooter -
Sooooo, you killed it or wounded it?
-
Lions are small. Any angle at that distance with a .270 would have been fine as long as there were vitals in the path
-
Ill be there again. Looks like its gonna be cold and snowy.

Ancient old buck. Well done
