Broke in the .264 at 10am this morning on a pretty good buck. Pack out was brutal.

Man i coulda used an extra set of eyes too! Good luck everyone. The day we’ve all been waiting for is near. This is the start of the resolution to all the scouting trips and range sessions. May your legs be strong, patience be tested and aim be true!

The tag he has is basically 100% draw. Not like he took the tag outta someone elses pocket. I do get tired of e-scouters as well, but sounds like hes already done some footwork. Will i be giving away spots? No. Does that mean he shouldnt hunt? No.

Theyre less than that new?

6.5-284 norma Hornady case sticking ?
GreyGhost85 replied to Hunt7112's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sounds like a case volume issue to me as well. Hornady brass is also probably not quite as thick as nosler and might expand more. Try backing off a grain or so and see if the groups change. -
Optimal shooting distances for specific magnification scopes
GreyGhost85 replied to CatfishKev's topic in Long Range Shooting
I think lower power scopes are better for kids. Target acquisition for follow up shots (which we know kids need often) are tricky on higher power scopes. I would say 15x max. I only hunt with a 14x and have not found that it limits me on shooting distance. High power scopes are nice for punching paper, but IMHO they are not 100% necessary for hunting. -
Seeing Muleys Instead of Coues
GreyGhost85 replied to WarrZone's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Where i hunt coues, i generally see more mulies. Spending a lot of time in an area helps. Certain ridges seem to hold mostly coues, while others, sometimes being only a few hundred yards away, seem to hold more mulies. There is a LOT of overlap. I have noticed that mulies are spread out pretty much all over where i hunt, but the coues tend to stick to their little pockets for the most part. -
Would probably have better luck with a title like Want to go on a lion hunt; partner wanted or Will someone please take me lion hunting?. The only people that want to take someone lion hunting are people that will profit fiscally. That being said, ground pounders and nichols would gladly take you.

Hornady 129 grain SST- any experience
GreyGhost85 replied to azhuntnut's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Great bullets. Not as good of a bc as the eld line but they are a well constructed, good hunting bullet. Killed a few critters with them out of a .264 win mag -
Nice job fellers. I am really enjoying seeing all the successful youth hunters this year. All you Dads have been doing a great job gettin those kids out there

I’ve taken a LOT of deer out of that unit. Used to be our stomping grounds. The last couple times we hunted it though, the struggle was real. Hunted 5 days and saw exactly 1 buck. Good luck!
-
What a cool buck. Strange he broke a point off so soon. Congrats, well done pops
-
His velvet was dead 6 days before the pic. They stop growing a couple weeks before they shed the velvet. Great buck none the less. He did not grow and actually lost a couple inches from velvet to hard-horned.
-
...yeah...i doubt that.
-
I thought all the rams were dead? Some real beauties there. Very envious
-
Love this time of year. Youth hunts are the best. Well done on an outstanding buck

Proper cleaning and barrel break in
GreyGhost85 replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Just shoot it. I RARELY clean my barrels with more than just a patch or two to make sure there are no obstructions. I keep the action/bolt clean. Dont let it get too hot and just shoot it. Seems like more and more people are going with the dont clean it method these days -
Looks geriatric for sure

If every gun in america was banned, it would not prevent anything. There are roughly 300 million REGISTERED firearms in america. Banning bump fire stocks accomplishes nothing. Banning firearms all together will do nothing. We have a mental health issue, not a gun issue. The whole founding fathers and muskets speeches always make me lol. A well regulated militia being necessary to secure a free state. Catfish, when the Gov comes knockin, let us know how well that musket works in protecting your family, your rights and yourself.

Hearts are fine table fare. I clean/slice/roll in flour and fry. I usually eat them for dinner the night i get them. Kind of a ritual

Modern Bows Short Brace Heights Question
GreyGhost85 replied to Heat's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Shorter brace height=more speed. All companies still make bows with long brace heights but they are usully marketed as target bows
