that buck of yours still had quite a bit of growth left so his antlers probably weren't hardened up yet. if they are close to done, they can be stripped and darkened and look natural. I'm not a taxidermist, but i bet that one would look a little off with the velvet stripped. His points are pretty balled up at the ends and the antlers will probably look porous when stripped. like i said, i'm no expert though

Nice! -
Bad deal for sure. hate to break it to you, but i am 99% sure that the velvet will have to be stripped, horns repaired and they will have to spray on artificial velvet. that is the only way it will look close to normal. synthetic velvet doesn't look or feel the same and i don't think they could blend it into the real velvet and have it look even close to natural. might end up costing almost as much to do all that as a regular shoulder mount costs.

Anyone bought anything from Gunbroker? Anyone know a good FFL?
GreyGhost85 replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It's a Winchester model 70 featherweight in .264 win mag. Had a Sendero in .264 for years and loved it but it was too d@mn heavy and i sold it and have wanted another one ever since. was going to go with 6.5X284 but already have brass, dies, powder, etc. for the .264 and couldn't pass it up. really a tough rifle to find anymore -

Well, i bet the bullet. seller had 1,600 reviews with an A+ rating. free shipping and they accepted credit card without additional charge. looks like I'll be stopping by Healy this afternoon. -
Like the title says, i'm looking for a 6.5x284. Looking to lighten up the pack some and i love this cartiridge. Not really sold on any particular make/model as long as it's a shooter, and not interested in any other cartirdges. Also, prefer 24-26" barrel and not too heavy. If anyone has anything, send me a PM. I'll probably bite the bullet and buy new in a week or so if nobody has one they want to part with.

appreciate it. i think i found a rifle on Gunbroker that i have been looking for for a long time. if it falls through, and you still have yours i'll probably be getting ahold of you.

So, do you buy it first, then find an FFL? if so, how long is do you get to do so? -

Hybrid questions. deer species identification
GreyGhost85 replied to Ohthatguy's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
The Game fish categorizes deer strictly on the tail. If it has a white tail, you can hang a coues tag on it . Mule tail, has to get a mule deer tag on it. No such thing as a deer you could hang either tag on. Like some people have mentioned recently, whatever the cause may be, i see a LOT of herds of deer that have both mule deer and whitetail herded up any more. After seeing that, a guy would have to believe that inter breeding does occur. One thing to realize though is hybrid deer are supposed to be sterile so the occurrence of F2/F3 hybrids SHOULD be non existent and the "hybrid gene" starts and stops with that particular animal. -
I sure wish tikka would make a creedmoor or a 6.5x284....

We caught a big stringer of mostly 18-22" trout, mostly cut throats (a couple smaller)at big lake after i shot my late bull a few weeks ago. Trout that were recently stocked just don't taste very good, their meat is pale and mushy. They have been raised on dog food before they release them. After a few months of a worm and crawdad diet their meat gets firm, and turns pink/orange and they are delicious. Anywho, i like to bake them. I clean them and leave the head on, put a few lemon slices inside of them, salt, pepper, dill and a pad of butter. Wrap them in foil and bake for about 15 minutes

I'm not a fan of the late hunts being later. Day after thanksgiving is nice because you always get Thursday and Friday off with holiday pay and don't have to burn the extra PTO.

glad someone posted it up.

What does your "long range" hunting rifle way?
GreyGhost85 replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Long Range Shooting
So you guys wanna see a wound channel? I haven't posted this before for obvious reasons, but here you go. this was a 526 yard shot. 285gn AMAX out of my 338 Lapua. Needless to say, he didn't take another step. -
i have a pelican 150 and love it. It held ice for 15 days this year. it's a beast though. extremely big and heavy

For Sale: Remington 11-87 Premier and Sportsman

if it wasn't the holidays, that 1187 would be mine. they are fantastic quail guns and very fast to swing -
i recently sold my 08 chevy with 7" lift running 35x12.50r20's. i could not keep tires on it to save my life. i wore out a pair of nitto MT's and Toyo MT's in less than 20k each set. i think 20" wheels are hard on tires. it's also hard to keep lifted trucks with IFS aligned. loved the truck, hated buying tires for it. Muds look cool, but nothing wears like an AT. i would look at the Toyo AT and the Nitto AT. they both have 50k mile warranties.
