The rings i use are xtreme hardcore gear rings. I always torque to 20. The rifle was loaned out and i think either a horse ran the rifle into a tree real hard or someone put extra torque on the rings to make sure they wouldn't come loose on the pack trip. Either way, i got it figured out. I'm sure burris will make it right.

I think they charge 1k for every inch over 360" is how they get you

The make and model of the scope that went haywire is a Burris Veracity 5-25. I have been very happy with the scope and like i said, the scope was not defective, it was damaged.
-
I'll put it back on when i get it replaced. The rings crushed the scope tube a little bit. Not sure if it was over torque or impact. I've got my theories about what happened. It does not look like a manufacturer defect. I borrowed and put a brand new in box vortex viper pst on it and after one shot there is a piece of debris floating around inside the scope. Gotta love Vortex.

Well, got back to the range and it turned out to be a bad scope after all. It will be en-route to the factory for repair/replacement on monday. Thanks for the help everyone

Yeah, try a different powder. H1000 or retumbo would be my starting point -

Fluting a Factory Heavy Barrel?
GreyGhost85 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would think that fluting a factory barrel would cost nearly as much as just having a new fluted barrel installed? -
So, someone in your party killed a bull with a muzzle loader that had been previously wounded in the archery hunt? Or you happened upon a dead bull with a pocket full of projectiles lodged in it?
-
so, the dead bull you found was hit by potentially 3 different people? 2 different broadheads and a muzzle loader?

Proof Research barrels
GreyGhost85 replied to WampusCat's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Brent Jacob at Western Precision rifles uses Proof barrels and speaks pretty highly of them. He's probably one of the best gun builders around right now. maybe give him a call? -
I took these pics of some Rocky Mountain rams a few weeks ago. thought you all might enjoy them

Shoot me a PM. I'm always happy to help out a kid

this is a really good deal. those rifles run around 750-800 new. $200 ammo and a brake also. i doubt this lasts very long

Someone on here posted about a lost bull in 6b

i found a dead bull in 27 this weekend too. been there maybe a week it looked like. PM me with where it was also and i'll tell you if it's your bull
-
He's not a youngster. No sway back or pot belly either though. I would guess 5-6?

please do not go into that hunt thinking the quality or quantity of elk is depleted. that is possibly the most coveted public land elk hunt in the United States. you will do great. don't shoot the first bull you see.

My bloodhound got loose from my house a few years ago. a neighbor picked him up and put an ad on craigslist. i responded to the ad and someone had already picked him up claiming he was theirs. luckily they had the lady's phone number. had a friend in law enforcement run the phone number and give me her address. the address took me nearly to Gila Bend. i made the trip and surprised the woman asking for my dog back. i made it known i was armed (handgun exposed on my hip) and had police ready to come. my dog was chained up inside the house, which had dirt floors. the place was obviously a puppy mill ran by tweakers. they had a female blood hound chained up outside so their intent was obvious. i got my dog back and the woman is now in prison. turns out they had been looking for her for some time for doing that same thing with other dogs. hope all goes well in getting your hound back, and hopefully it doesn't take a turn like my situation did

the VX6 would be a great choice

yeah, 27 is intimidating. it's a unit where you can really get your @ss kicked if you're not familiar or prepared. i love it and hunt it almost exclusively anymore. i've set foot or laid eyes on pretty much every square foot of it at one time or another and still get beat up in there all the time. good luck and keep at it

that's a great 4A BUll. love the tine length on his G1's, G2's and G3's

i have heard that 27 is really tough this year. i keep hearing that they are rutting well but big bulls are few and far between. I'll be up this weekend helping out a couple friends
