I use Nikon Monarch 10X42 they are dourable and have not let me down. But if I were to get another pair to wear around my neck in the $200-$300 price range I would get the Weaver 12x50's I looked through some of my buddies last winter, they are not too touchey to free hand and on the tripod thier performance is not too shabby.

That is one of my favorate lakes a bit off of the beaten path but well worth the drive! I'll be taking my 3 year old up there this summer for his first real fishing trip.

Well looks like everyone has thier own strategy, but in the end they are where they are........hopfully on the choping block at the end of the hunt! Lost of good advice and good luck to all! P.S I have a hunting buddie who is 49 and manages to kill 100"+ deer 100% of the time! So who says that our elderly folk cant still get it done? Good job Begay!

Sounds like Bob Vila style is a better way to go red flanel and blue jeans! -
Thats awsome..... Just checked my Rino 110 and it does infact have a feature for best times to hunt and fish! It does not suprise me that the first two hours and the last two hours of day light are the best.

I know that there are other post on the bear attacks near Tonto Village on this site but I figured I would chime in on the latest news I have just heard. On news channel three this morning they reported that none of the DNA from the three bears that were killed matches the DNA from the bear that did the attacks. I dont want to sound like a animal rights activist but was this the right move by the state athorities? Could they have put the bears to sleep and waited for results? Will they keep taking out every bear they see until they get one that matches the agressive bears DNA? How will this effect the harvist limit in unit 22 this spring?

I sent vortex an email about this very same issue and they sent me older style vortex adapter (it has a bigger round end on it rather than the flat skinny one), it works a little better.

Congrats on a nice desert mulie! You should be proud of that one.

Disrespecting the wilderness should be shunned. Im with you on that. I dont think its fair to blame all of us hunters in AZ for a few poor hunters actions. New Nexico........ well you can have it! After all they do blow that place up for a reason.

Congrats! Thats cool how Frank took you to his special spot to help you out. Good story and one that you will never forget!

I have been checking this site out for some time now and really enjoy all of the interesting and usefull info posted here, finally decided to join. Great job guys.....With that said, I need some input on optics. I need to reach out and check out more country "Its Time". My Nikon 10x42 are nice but they are just not cutting it. The 15x56 Swaro's are not in the budget and the Kiababs are too wide and dont fit my narrow face. So whats left? I really like the Viper 15x50 just wondering of anyone has used them in the field? Pros & Cons? ALso has any one used Minox 15x56 binos? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your $.02. The henge on the Kiababs does not get close enough together to get a complete view. The SLC's fit good and they would be my first choice, just not going to be able to spring for them anytime soon. My main concern on the Vipers is the focus factor and eye fatigue. I have heard of guys having these issues in the past. Also The Vipers have "HD" glass as do the Kiababs, so whats the big difference between the Vipers and the Kiababs components that makes the kiababs twice the cost?

January 2012... You can't kill all year long if you don't start the first day!
