    Easy Meals while camping?

We do this for every trip. Anytime I smoke pork butts, I do 4-6 butts to make it worth the time investment and vacum seal the final product, about 2 pounds per bag and freeze. Works great as an ice pack in the cooler and you just throw the bag in a pot of boiling water to heat. No pot to clean and pretty dang close to as good as when you freshly cooked it. Just throw on some buns with BBQ sauce. Easily the most popular meal in camp.

    Leaderboard ???

I was looking around the updated site and noticed several new things including a "Leaderboard" that ranks things like reputation points? Anyone know what that is all about?

    Podcasts are ruining hunting areas

I have seen significant point creep (multiple points, not just the usual 1 or 2) in a couple of my preferred areas in draw cycles directly after Jay has had focused discussions about those areas on his show. I asked him about it one time and he shrugged it off and said, "There aren't any secrets about any areas anymore anyway." I don't necessarily agree with that. Oh well, he has every right to talk about it on his show, but I don't like it either.

    Early Ballot

I do not have much information on these individuals. But for those of you in the far east valley, I would encourage you to look into and consider Michael "Big Mike" Hernandez for district 16 State Senate (east Mesa, AJ, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, etc. area) over David Farnsworth. I have met with Mike and have been extremely impressed. He is A STV resident, and for those of us who live in the far south east valley and are tired of feeling like Farnsworth's "red headed stepchild", Mike is your guy.

    2018 antler growth

A great moisture year isn't going to transform 300 inch bulls into 350s. This year there will still be a whole pile of 310-330 bulls like there always is, which is what most guys turning tags back in would shoot even in a great water year. I've seen plenty of great bulls this year that I'd shoot any year. Just go hunt and enjoy it.
  13. Mini-Mag Plus National Security Gun 21 Gun Safe Looking to sale this for my father. He and my mother are at the age where they are downgrading house size and no longer have room/space for this. Here are some specs: 21 gun safe 60"H x 24"W x 24"D This thing is heavy!!! I know, all gun safes are heavy, but this thing weighs more than my 30 gun safe. Probably 600+lbs? Definitely not a cheap warehouse store safe. He payed about $2000 for it when he bought it about 20 years ago. It does have some cosmetics scuffs from use, but it is structurally and mechanically rock solid. Asking $500 No delivery, must pick up in Queen Creek.

    White Mtns. Fishing?

I was up there two weeks ago with my wife and 3 kids and it was terrible!!! Spent about 6 hours at Big Lake during which we caught 2 fish with 1 more bite. 4 hours at Sunrise without a single bite, and 4 hours at Bunch Reservoir without a bite (but the kids caught lots of crawdads). We usually slay them at all three of these lakes. I think it was just way to hot. I believe it hit 90 degrees at one point! My oldest son went up again with friends last weekend and they didn't catch anything.

    Trail Camera Opinion/Review?

I've never before put up a trail camera, mostly because I am cheap and figure they would get stolen. But I was thinking about setting out a couple this year in preparation for my daughters first deer hunt. I think she would get a kick out of it and it would get her even more excited. I saw these Stealth cams at Sams Club and figured they are cheap enough that I would get to upset when they do go missing. I know they are pretty lower end, so are they worth the trouble? https://www.samsclub.com/sams/stealth-cam-xs14-14mp-trail-camera%20w-card-reader-2pk%20/prod22303804.ip?xid=plp_product_1_1 2 for $100
  22. Before I pose this question I'll explain the situation. My 9 year old daughter will turn 10 this year on October 13th. I would like to put her application in for some of the youth hunts that open on October 12th. If she were drawn we simply wouldn't hunt the opening day and start on her birthday. Here lies the problem, I have read through he regs and rule books on the subject of youth hunter age multiple times. The only specification is that the youth hunter must be 10 in order to hunt big game. NOWHERE does it specify that they must be 10 prior to the opening day of the hunt. In a past year I helped a friend try to put his son for a hunt in a similar situation where the hunter turned 10 somewhere during the course hunt, but after opening day. The online application process would not let us complete the application because the hunter would not be 10 by opening day. So when people have asked this question in the past, I have always give the answer that they must be 10 prior to opening day. But, there in nowhere that I can find in the AZGFD rules that states this. I have now had a conversation with an individual at the east Mesa AZGFD office and another individual at the main office in Phoenix. Both were stumped and neither were able to answer this question about age on opening day vs a birthday during the hunt and why the application would not be accepted. Based on the way the rules are explained in the regs, I can't see any reason why someone in my daughter's situation should not be able to apply for a hunt in this situation, provided they begin their hunt on or after their birthday. Since the online application will likely not accept the application, I am tempted to just do a paper application for her. However, I do not want to run the risk of having her application tossed/rejected. Last night I reached out to a friend who also happens to be an AZGFD warden out of Mesa. He was able to get me the contact information for the person who oversees the draw, and I plan to reach out to her today. In the meantime I am curious who may have run into this situation in the past and was anyone ever able to get a clear answer? Seems to me that unless their is a specific rule that states 10 on or prior to opening day, someone turning 10 during the hunt should be able to apply. Thanks

    Cowboy casket

That thing is awesome! I'd be proud to be buried in it. However, I hope that wont be necessary for at least another 40 years, despite the scare the doctor game my wife and I this weekend. Told me he thought I might be in kidney failure and put me though a truck load of tests. It was just really bad and intense food poisoning.

Youth Application Age - The Unanswerable Question

Have to be 10 before the start of the hunt. So if the hunt starts on say the 25th and the kid is 10 on the 25th it's a no go. At least that is how it has been explained to me. You are correct, I confirmed this with multiple individuals at AZGFD. We were bummed at first because my daughter had to miss the youth hunts by 1 day. But it ended up working out for the better, much better, as she was rewarded with a 3C deer tag for two weeks after her birthday. It will be a pretty great first hunt for her.
