Losing Our Public Lands
rossislider replied to rossislider's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I was once of the same frame of mind before I really started looking into the issue. There are many problems with this. One problem with state ownership is that the states DO NOT have the funds to manage and maintain the lands, nor the fiscal responsibility to control their spending. It is too easy to sell off a chunk of lands to raise some money. In no time the lands would be sold off to private parties and individuals. It is not a matter of if they would be sold, but when. Your honey holes would no longer be yours and all hunting would rely on land leases. Texas is a great example of this. I don't think that it is any surprise that one of the leaders in this push to pass these lands down to the states is Senator Ted Cruz from Texas. Ever look into public land hunting in Texas? It doesn't exist. You might also take note that pretty much every conservation group, big name hunter, etc. is strongly opposed to this as well. Please do some research into the the. The BHA's website has a wealth of information: http://www.backcountryhunters.org/issues -
I ordered the professional model from n82 tactical this past weekend. It hasn't arrived yet, but I look forward to trying it out. It was between that and Alien Gear. N82 seemed to have the edge on comfort based upon the reviews I read and watched. Check back with me in about a week.

I may be the world's worst javelina hunter. But for what it is worth, I'd target areas on the northern side of Roosevelt.

FYI, I've had more friends have paper apps rejected than online. Additionally, AZGFD has charged cards the morning following the credit card update deadline for the past two draw cycles. If they can continue this, most issues with cards becoming invalid between the deadline and the draw will go away. That said, the elk/antelope draw tends to be the one where things have gone haywire with the system. Fingers crossed that the process continues to go smooth!

If you saw my post yesterday, I mentioned Bandlands is doing a December deal of the day. Looks like they have a lightweight higher end down jacket as today's deal. Normally $399.99. Today it is $99.99 with the promo code BLSUPERNOVADDD18 at checkout. I think shipping is free. http://www.badlandspacks.com/supernova-waterproof-down-jacket

How much effort would you put forth to help someone like this?
rossislider replied to GTIMANiac's topic in The Campfire
I've done my share of stupid stuff, most in my younger years and some of which I am lucky to have survived. I've had strangers help me out of several sticky spots and I'm sure most of them thought I was an idiot, but it didn't stop them from helping someone in a precarious spot. I've been able to pay it forward a few times and hope I'll never overlook an opportunity to do so again if I am able. Good for you for trying to help him out.- 30 replies

Like the title asks, I'd like to know what your opinions are on the best "non-steak house" restaurant in the valley, particularly in the eastern or central areas of the valley. I know lots of great steak places, but am looking for something different to take my wife too. Thoughts? Thanks

Okay, maybe not really, but you can believe that if Jason Hairston slapped his Dall sheep logo on it, guys would be lining up for it. -
Years ago my eye doctor to told me to never wipe my glasses with anything without first running them underneath water to remove the fine dust particles that will leave micro scratches as you press the particles into the lenses as you wipe. Obviously, you would run your binos under the sink. Instead, use compressed air to blow away the particles and then wipe with eye glass cleaner that you can pick up in any eye glasses store or department.

Badlands Down Jacket - Deep discount, worth it?
rossislider replied to Coach's topic in The Campfire
I have noticed that the poofiness and outer shell seems nearly identical to the Kuiu Superdown. I had the same reaction when I first saw received it. I suspect the Badlands version will be very similar. I asked an "expert" about it (the superdown) and he told me it is the difference between quality down and cheap stuff you might pick up in a low end department store. Unlike the really poofy stuff, high quality down doesn't need to be super thick and poofy to get the job done. Also, like with the Kuiu Superdown, I wouldn't wear it through nasty thick stuff like catclaw, mesquites, etc. I don't think the shell will hold up to that. Again, I was told that it is a warm outerlayer meant to be packed around till you stop moving and start to really cool down, like when glassing for hours. Time will tell. I am anxious to put mine to the test.
