Rookie long range shooting mistake!!!!!
rossislider replied to Big Browns's topic in Long Range Shooting
I was waiting to see who would be the first smart butt:) Dang, he beat me to it! -
Hopefully I'm not crossing any sponsorship rules, but here is his Facebook page in case you want to see some more of his creations or reach out to him. To be clear, he is a friend of mine. I don't have anywhere near this level of talent. https://www.facebook.com/badassfirepits/?hc_ref=SEARCH&fref=nf

This one was much better that the OSU pit, (despite their pathetic season).
-
He recently made one like this for an Ohio State fan. Actually, I think it is in the background of one of the pictures. Seems like a lot of time and talent to waste on Ohio State.

I think the butcher shop in Springerville is Rusty's. I have never used them but have friends who have. https://www.facebook.com/rustysmeatshop/

Seems most companies have gone to low rise tight thigh jeans. I hate them! I have to buy a size big in the waiste for jeans to fit right in the thigh. And when did all jeans start getting made of spandex stretchy material?

Also, don't rule out Prime and Elite without shooting them. Timber Mesa carries them as well. I haven't shot this years lineup, but I shot them all this past spring. I started with the Halon and Defiant at the top of the list, but the Elite Impulse and Prime Rize bumped them both. But that was just me personal shooting preference.

Have you checked out Timber Mesa Archery in Gilbert? They have been my go to sunce they opened that location a year or so ago. They are west of Stapley (Cooper?) on Baseline. They carry both brands you suggested as well as all the other major brands if I am not mistaken. Also, they offer free new strings every 2 years on all higher end bow purchases.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiiving you. I found some Federal GM215M primers a couple of weeks ago and bought all I could for myself and some buddies. After I got my buddies all they need I have about 2000 left over. I'd like to spread them out a bit because I know a lot of guys have been looking, so I'm going to limit it to 500 per person for now. $25 for 500 I cannot ship, and I'm only charging a couple of dollars over what I paid so you need to be able to meet me in the Phoenix east valley. I work in Tempe and live in Queen Creek. Thanks

The sale on the final 500 fell through. Back up for grabs. -
I have to agree with this in some ways. While I did not let Taylor practice with it, she used my .300RUM w. brake when she was 11 for her first bull elk too. Lots of time behind a .223 & .25-06AI for practice. This is a great point. Best way to get a kid ready and comfortable is a couple thousand rounds down a 22lr before they start to move up. Build those good habits with something that doesn't scare them or beat them up and those habits will translate to larger rifles and in hunting situations. Maybe the best thing I did for my son was to get him his own 22lr when he turned 8 and let him shoot the heck out of it for a couple years. Maybe just a proud pappa talking here, but since he turned 10 (he is now 12) he has taken a whitetail, a muley, two elk, a turkey, and more small game than I can remember, and he has yet to miss his mark. If we are lucky enough, he might add another deer and his first javelina to that total this weekend.
-
My son shot his first deer at 10 with my 300 RUM, and several other animals since. It has a good brake on it and it is all he wants to hunt with ever though we have several smaller calibers. My point is, don't feel like you have to get a kid a smaller caliber so they can handle it now. Even the big guns with a little aftermarket work are very manageable and might give them greater flexibility of animal species long term.

You don't know me, my rational, or the facts. I bought what I thought my friends and I needed. No I did not buy everything they had. Turns out we didn't need everything I bought, so I'm trying to help some others on here out rather than hord them. You are right. I'm not looking to make a big profit. Once all of these are sold I will be up about $5. Much less than the cost of gas and my time to meet up with people. I do it because helping out other guys on here and making new friends with like minded people is far more valuable than making a few dollars. You might give it a try. Seems like a better thing to do than rip a guy for trying to help some fellow hunters out. -

I have received a number of PMs. I'll let you know what is left once I get through those and will take back up names if needed. -
I've rented from a few guys, some were great and some were terrible! The past few times I have rented from a couple of guys who work for Rowley White RV in east Mesa. Each time has been a really good experience. They work on RVs and so their toy haulers have always had everything clean and in good working condition (unlike a few other piles of junk I have gotten stuck with). Let me know if interested and I will PM you the number. I think they are in the neighborhood of $100 per night. Probably cheaper for longer periods.

Very cool! He'd be going up on my wall for sure.

Two charges, youth javelina and either a javelina tag for me or goulds for my son or I.

Agree completely with what has been said. I have a Tikka t3 in 7mm mag and a 7-08. Both shoot under MOA. I haven't been able to get a load dialed to my satisfaction for the 7-08, but the 7mm mag is close to 1 inch groups at 200 yards with no work done to it. It is my preferred pack rifle. My Sendero 300 RUM will out shoot them both, but weighs about 3 times as much and cost about 3 times as much (not including custom work done to it). Also agree completely with what was said about the included rings. They are garbage. Throw them away and get some Talleys. I also like the adjustable triggers on the Tikkas and highly recommend turning the trigger pull down. I have mine as low as they will go which is almost right at 2 lbs.

This is why some people don't deserve to hunt

I just looked this up. Unfortunately it appears to have been taken down. I really wanted to read the comments.
