Got my first lion! 130lbs 7'0"

Congrats! You use a guide? Who did you go with?
  2. Like cbryant11 said, the Bergers usually come in a pack of 100 so you probably got a better deal than you thought. That actually makes the price of them pretty reasonable. No experience with R17, but my gunsmith highly recommends it for .223 in ARs. Sounds like a lot for a .223 cartridge to me but he says it is awesome in an AR platform. I use R15 in my .243 and get great results.

    30 - tAR15's @ Sportmans Warehouse Mesa

I'd be interested to find out what it was like down there this morning. If you were there please post an update. Also, what were the ARs going for?
  5. Just wanted to pass along a tip on some AR-15s. I was at Pistol Parlor this afternoon right as they were closing at 2:00. They had gotten in a shipment of AR-15 prior to my arrival. I think they still had around 5 left at closing. If you get there right as they open on Wednesday morning you probably have a good chance of picking one up.

    In stock AR-15s

At least one was M&P (Smith & Wesson). Not sure about the others. They ranged from about $1000 to $1600. They did seem to be going for a premium price.

    Did anyone see this

+1 That seemed like a bit of an overreaction to me too!
  9. Well, I was expecting the run on Ar-15s and high capacity magazines but didn't figure everyone would panic and start stocking up on general reloading supplies. Oh well, my mistake. I need to pick some so went by Sportsman's but they were cleaned out. Anyone been to any local shops (east valley) that have any small rifle primers in stock or have any other leads on some? Thanks
  10. That is ridiculous! Where was this?
  11. I was at Sportsman's last weekend and they had approximately 250 AR-15 setups in inventory. By Wednesday when I was there again they had sold through every one. It's not a matter of pulling them off their shelves, its a matter of keeping their shelves stocked. Sportsman's is a great store run by good people. There have been a lot of false rumors like this about lots of different establishments. Most have not been accurate.
  12. Had a buddy stop by Bear Mountain today and they still had a bunch so he grabbed some for me. Thanks everyone.
  13. They looked to be pretty well stocked on projectiles still. They have gone to keeping all powder and primers in the back room, so it is hard to say what they may have. I know they were out of the small rifle primers and h335 powder. It is a lot more frustrating now as you have to wait for someone at the gun counter to be available to check for you.
  14. Was going to buy 1000, but given this insanity I will take what I can find.

    2012 Big coues buck

Awesome buck! I'm guessing the pressure of the bullet going through the skull caused the insides of his head to expand outward and pushed his eyes out? Just a guess, I'm no biologist. Congratulations!

Undecided, just sent you a text.
  17. If you haven't already stocked up, I'd recommend getting to the stores early...
  18. Saw this coming and picked up 25 pmags last week. Glad I did cause I was browsing the Internet last night and there were none to be found.

    road hunters

As long as you leave the truck and get well off of the road you are perfectly legal. Glad you can still get out and enjoy the hunt!

    road hunters

So last year during my late bull hunt my buddy and I had scouted several different bulls leading up to our hunt and felt he had a solid game plan going into opening morning. Then Thanksgiving night (the day before the hunt) we got the first major storm of the year. We woke up to 18+ inches (and still accumulating) of freshly fallen snow and some really nasty wind. The bulls we had scouted had vanished overnight. We spent a grueling first day hiking up and down the mountains and didn’t see anything. That evening, just as got back to the truck to head back to camp we saw a small group of bulls coming out of the trees into a meadow about a mile away. Unfortunately, we were losing light fast and had nowhere near enough time to put a stock on them. So we devises a plan to get up several hours before light and make the hike around the backside of the mountain to where we felt confident the bulls would be going back into the trees at sun up. The next morning we had another brutal hike through the deep snow in the dark to get into position, but managed to get set up about an hour before sun rise. We waited, and waited, and waited, but the bulls had once again evaded us. Going into the hunt I had a bum ankle and foot (which it turns out I now need to have operated on in a couple of months) which I severely aggravated several times that second morning by stepping onto unseen rocks hidden beneath the snow. After another brutal morning and early afternoon we decided it would be best to head back to camp to rest my ankle, get some warm food, and take a little nap to rebuild some energy before heading back out later in the afternoon. While my buddy took one truck into the nearest town for gas, I took the other truck to a small convenience mar that had Wi-Fi to email in assignment I had due for a class. As I headed back to camp I pulled over onto a shoulder of the dirt road that lead back to camp. It was the last spot where I could still get cell phone service. As I called my wife to check in and let her know how things had gone that morning, a flicker of movement in the rear view mirror caught the corner of my eye. The bull in my profile picture was charging full speed across an open meadow about 400 – 500 yards behind me. I literally threw my phone across the cab of my truck (freaking my wife out cause she had no idea what was going on, she just heard me shout and then the phone went dead) grabbed my rifle out of the back seat and took off running. I ran across the road and into the meadow a short distance. The bull which had been running almost directly at me then saw me and started to change directions. I didn’t give him a chance to get very far before putting a round from my 300 ultra mag into him. He was slowed and limping but still moving pretty good so I put another round into him. He only made it another 30 yards or so and crashed to the ground about 6 feet from the road. It may have been the all-time easiest pack out. Anyhow the point of this story is that I had worked hard for this bull. I don’t know if some might consider this road hunting, but I really don’t care. I didn’t do anything illegal, and while this was not the way I had planned to get my bull, I feel fantastic about it and wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger again. Additionally, and I recognize that this is only my opinion, I think that anyone in my situation who says they would have done otherwise is full of it! Obey the laws, respect your fellow hunters, and have a great time. Don’t let someone who chooses to LEGALLY hunt in a manner different from you diminish a lifetime of great stories and memories.
  23. I drove up to Show Low last night and picked up my Unit 1 Late rifle bull from Will at 2 Windy Taxidermy. I could not be happier with the way it turned out! This was the first time I have used Will, and had originally planned on using someone a bit closer to home here in the valley. But he came highly recommended, his prices beat just about everyone else’s I had looked at, and the mounts he had at his shop were awesome. I don't mean to take away from any of the sponsors on here because they do great work as well. But Will is definitely my go to guy from now on!
  24. Unions aside, I have little doubt that Obama will have minimum wage between $20 - $30 per hour by the end of this term.
