    AZGFD Rule Changes

what's stopping anyone from doing that with the current rules? 50 piles of corn per square mile of public land and a blind or treestand at every pile! where the heck do you see this? I sure as heck don't see any corn piles in the units I hunt. Take a walk around unit 23 in august. I hunted 23 North in August and didn't see 50 corn piles. Come to think of it, I didn't see any. I am sure there were some there, but not 50 per square mile.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

Amazing how many people are lining up on here to get more of their freedoms and right stripped away just because it is not how they like to do things. I've only ever hunted over bait once in my life so really don't stand much to lose from this new law... OTHER THAN MY FREEDOM AND RIGHT TO CHOSE! I don't have an RV and think that "real hunters" should be required to sleep out in tents or on the ground. Perhaps I will propose a rule to ban RVs from hunting. After all why should I not be allowed to impose my opinions and belief on others. Everyone should be obligated to do things just like I do...... THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!!!! Is there anything you enjoy doing that others might disagree with? Perhaps we should do away with everything someone else does not like.

+1 Romney should use the Constitution more in upcoming debates. He could bury Obama with the ways he has violated it.

    AZGFD Rule Changes

For my fellow conservatives on here, please take a moment to consider the following. These types of little laws may sound good to some, based upon one's personal beliefs and opinions. But such small changes are the same thing our local, state, and federal government do to expand the government, raise taxes, etc. Additionally, how conservative is it to impose your beliefs and opinions on others? Whether you support baiting or not, supporting laws that ban it are only taking more rights away from individuals and expanding the power of governing bodies. Additional laws and regulation = Bad laws and regulation.

    2012 Yellowstone Elk Rut

Nice! Just remember, bugling to elk in the park will get you in trouble with the Jellystone park rangers. Spent the last 2 summers up there. It is an awesome time of year, in, and around. Yellowstone. Yea, anything more than a cell phone ringtone and I probably wouldn't recommend it, not very loud and it is after all my text notification tone. Also, the park was almost empty. This is a great time of year to go and avoid the crowds!

    2012 Yellowstone Elk Rut

Thanks, the highlight for me was the elk in the bottom picture. I was standing behind some trees about 15-20 yards from our Tahoe. My wife asked me to try to get him to turn and look at us. I have an elk bugle ring tone on my phone so I walked in front of the Tahoe, started raking a tree, and calling to him with the ringtone. He turned and studied me for a minute, probably not sure what to think. After a few moments he started bugling back. We had quite the conversation going for a few minutes before he eventually took his cows and disappeared into the trees. I had never before experienced anything like that within 20 yards!

    Jerky Recipes

Costco sells their own brand of Sweet Mesquite dry run seasoning. I have found that mixing this with some soy Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar makes a great sweet and spicy jerky marinade. My kids can't get enough of it.

    Idaho Brown Fishing

Most, of my cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc live the Idaho Falls vicinity. My parents were born and raised there and moved my family down to AZ when I was 8. I try to take my own family up there each year for a week to visit family. It seems to be my wife and kids favorite place to vacation. If I were to ever leave AZ, Idaho would be my fist choice of places to move to. Beautiful area and a sportsman's paradise!

    Idaho Brown Fishing

My family and I made the 14 hour trek this weekend from Queen Creek, AZ to Idaho Falls, I'D. Tonight my cousins and I headed up for some brown fishing on the south fork of the Snake River near the Idaho/Wyoming border. It was a fantastic evening! I finished the evening with about 18 fish. Most in the 2-3 pound range. I was fortunate enough to get a couple 4 pounders (one of which is in the picture below) and a fat 6 pounder. Nothing like Idaho brown fishing!

Can't find any trout fishing in AZ that can come anywhere close. I've tried.

    .243 for Mule Deer?

I'd agree with everyone here. The .243 is an excellent deer round, especially if you are comfortable and accurate with it. Not that I would do it myself, but I have seen elk taken with a .243. A 100 grain Nosler BT or Barnes would be my round of choice for your hunt. Good luck!

    Best guess at score

You all are much more patient than I. I don't think I could have stopped myself from shooting this bull. I'd estimate him in the 340 range, but am certainly no expert.

Applicants are needed for the Game and Fish Commission.

To bad no one is needed from Maricopa county. I for one would gladly switch to independent to get another rational thinking non hippy on the commission.

    can I just vent...

Could be the guy with the STOLEN spark plug was somehow disabled and had permission to have the quad back there. Guess that's why it isn't our job to be the law enforcers out there...

    can I just vent...

One of the things I have always loved the about hunting is they way most hunters are so great about looking out for each other and the brotherhood that there seems to be in the field. However m77, the various posts of yours I have read really make me question the type of hunter and "sportsman" you are. Hope to never meet up with you in the field...

Travel management - what are YOU going to do?

Go to a Forest Service Office and you can get them there. I went to the one on 23st and McDowel in Phoenix and picked both of them up. They are free. The Coconino Map measures 33"x55" and is double sided with North on one side and south on the other. Thanks

Travel management - what are YOU going to do?

Where can I find the Travel Management Plan for a specific area? I am not overly familiar with them, but it sounds like I need to be.

    Late Bull Hunt

I agree with this. I have found that the opening weekend of the late hunts are packed with hunters. Come Monday the numbers of hunters in the field drops substantially. I personally would be hesitant to shoot anything much lower than 300ish until later in the hunt. I shot this guy below on Saturday of the opening weekend, last year during unit 1's late rifle hunt (same bull as in my profile picture). He is probably right around that 300 range. There are plenty of good bulls out there in the late hunts if you will work for them. Remember, the 400's shot next year had to be around somehere during the previous year's late hunts.

    ATV Repair Help?

I was in a pretty bad ATV accident during the early part of this past summer. It has been a few months now and, with surgery and lots of physical therapy, my leg/knee have come a long way. It's time to start looking into what it will take to repair my ATV. The ATV is a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 There does not seem to be any damage to the engine. It appears to start and run fine, as does the winch on the front which was used to help get it out of the forest. The primary damage is on the front end from the impact with a rather large tree trunk. If you or someone you know does this kind of repair work for a reasonable price, and could help get me an estimate of what this kind of repair might cost, please PM me. Thanks
  23. One of the coolest looking bulls of the season!
