  1. This will be very unpopular even among my friends. Lol. I agree with increases. How much should depend on the hunt. "Premium tags" should be more than "general hunts". For example early rifle/muzzleloader hunts should be more than late nov/dec hunts. Same with deer. However I think javelina hunts should be free! JK

    Dog pile....!!!!

Good thing we got my scope rings lapped last week because our friendship is over. <_<

  2. I'm going to have to side somewhat with couesmagnet on this one, I was hoping for some family structured stuff like discounts for multiple tags in the same family and the like so we don't price kids out of it but i guess most of you are right in saying its all about the money, well it has to be in order to run a company so its going to happen, how often do you really go elk hunting anyway, i saved the cash for a full on pack trip hunt 3 years ago and have been sitting on it and have spent a total of 22.00 dollars so far so if I do get drawn it will be like over 5 or 6 years the elk tag will be spread out. Most don't go every year anyway so it ends up being like 50 buck a year if you handle your money right. The only thing I see that doesn't make sense is that how do they think they can price our non resident hunts higher than most other states? I put in for Nevada and it would be 50 bucks less at least? Prices are going to go up and most likely need to but I think they may price themselves out of some non residents.

I bough 4 OTC tags this morning and it was 83 bucks. Hard to beat that.

I will be going to the Wickenburg meeting for sure to give my 2 cents if possible.

Yes, the cost of running a business does increase and so at times prices must also go up. However, those price increases usually equate to small 5%-10% increases. If you average the proposed tiered cost of an elk tag, it equates to a 37.4% increase. Most companies trying a price hike like that would find themselves out of business.

  3. I put in all over the west each year just wishing to get drawn anywhere i can. In new mexico for instance i put close to 800 dollars on the line each year to get drawn for elk. I consider paying anything under 500 a real bargain to go elk hunting in any state including mine, and i hope that the tag price increases will decrease the number of applicants. I don't have a lot of money either so this isn't some kind of rich guy poor guy thing, so i hope this doesn't get twisted around on me by someone else. It's to hard to get drawn as it is , so higher prices tend to weed out some people from putting in including their grandmother's second cousin who married uncle bart so they can go for a couple of days. I hope there is a tag price increase every other year or so, just to curb the numbers off applicants if anything.

Wow, what a selfish attitude and stance to take! I work hard and have been blessed to be able to afford luxuries such as the occasional hunting trip. But the idea that they are going to have DRAMATIC increases, such at the ones proposed, that might make might hunting unaffordable to some of my fellow hunters really pisses me off. Additionally, there is a reason we pay less as AZ residents. Because we subsidize AZ Game and Fish with our taxes each year.

  4. If you are going to put in anyway, why don't you just put some of the hunts you are looking at that typically have leftover deer tags as your last 2/3 choices?

And mail in applications for leftover tags are done before walk-ins for leftover tags. You have send in an application unless you want to wait however many days until the leftover tags are available over the counter.

My understanding is that buying left over otc tags does not use you bonus points. Getting drawn for these as a 3rd of 4th choice would. I want to keep building my points until I get one of the "premium" units I have been waiting for.

R12-4-107 G. An applicant issued a first-come, first-served hunt permit-tag under R12-4-114©(2)(d) after the computer drawing does not lose bonus points for that genus, and a valid but unsuccessful applicant for a first-come, first-served hunt permit-tag remaining after the computer drawing does not gain a bonus point.

  5. Both my draw luck and health luck (I have had to have a couple of leg surgeries this past year) have been pretty lousy recently. I haven’t been up in the hills for a while now and it’s killing me. By fall my leg should be in much better shape. So I have decided that once I fail to draw a deer tag again this year, I’m going to try to get an otc (over-the-counter) deer tag for one of the border units. I’ve never bought a left over otc deer tag so I’m curious to know how difficult these left over border tags are to get.

Do they sell out each year?

Do you have to get in line early or camp out to get one?

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  6. Sadly, in a few weeks, this will be nothing but a footnote. The Chosen One will prevail and continue his assault on traditional American values.

Sadly, you couldn't be more right. Today's citizen is lazy, has a short attention span, and cares more about handouts than their country or right and wrong. Nothing will come of all of this and it will all soon be swept under the rug.

  7. I've been told on a few occasion that the shortage of 22lr ammo is due to it's low profit margins. Ammo manufacturers are putting everything into cranking out the high dollar stuff that has higher profit margins while it continues to fly off of shelves. Can't fault them for that. Once the sales of the higher profit margin stuff slows down 22lr ammo will be back.

I'm just glad I had a couple thousand rounds of it from before the Obama scare. Been teahing my 8 year ol how to shoot. He got a 22lr for his birthday last year and would be crushed if we couldn't go shooting.

  8. How about those dbacks.

Like stated in prior posts," to each their own". We live in a free country that was founded by people with all kinds of opinions. Some got them killed, some gave them liberty. I just really hate seeing fellow hunters drag each other in a wallow. It's just sad that when bc777 posted the initial post I knew he was gonna get blasted. It's amazing how one persons(immature, child, spoiled etc...)opinion can get your pants all in a bundle. You know bc777 is going to defend himself so why add fuel to that fire. My opinion, all are guilty from top to bottom of more game violations than this whole site has combined and then doubled.

Dbacks are doing really well! Almost swept the phillies and on to the Braves. That shortstop is extremely talented.

We have really got to shore up that bull pen though. They scare the crap out of me.

  10. Happy mother's day to any and all current and future moms on here. Dad's get the most credit for passing the sport of hunting on from generation to generation, but where would the sport be without all of you amazing moms?

A special public thanks to my wife who allows me to leave her home with the kids, helps me prepare to leave, cleans my mess afterwards, lets me spend way to much money on gear, eats some "interesting" game, and about a million other things!

You ladies are amazing, THANK YOU!!!
