  1. They do tend to stick to a general area unless chased out or forced to leave for food or water. I wouldn't worry to much if I were your buddy. Lions are everywhere. It would be hard to find an area where there wasn't one fairly close. People just don't know see them often and have no idea how close they really area. Carrying a sidearm is never a bad idea though.

  2. I sold my 30-06 but still have the dies. They are in like new condition and were used to load about 50 rounds. I also have 47 once fired brass. Asking $30 for everything or a comparable trade. Looking for:

    • Berger 210 grain 30 caliber hunting VLDs
    • Retumbo powder
    • Federal Premium Gold Medal Primers in magnum, large, or small rifle
    • Something else interesting???

    Thanks

/> I never judged your opinion AZHUNTER05, nor did I say they're unalike, just happen think schwacker is a funny name.

For instance, I didn't mean to offend you and I hope you "schwack" a deer this season!

lol - seriously no offense directed out from this keyboard

Lol, I thought that escalated quickly ;).

    Diminished even quicker!

No doubt! Talk about disappointing. What happened to the good old days where people would go on for pages and bashing each other for days. Then at some point they would start dragging each others family members into the insults.... wait, maybe that is my wife and I am thinking of.

  4. these are not the wolves in montana/wyo. they can't kill anything , they just eat road kill. i don't understand the rancor. do you think they are responsible for the low big game populations?? Not true. it is a combination of the game mgmnt by azgfd and the drought. there are no wolves in the units 4-26, 28-47.

They probably said similar things about the Montana/Wyoming wolves in the beginning, now it is getting out of control. Previous generations hunted these things to near extinction for a reason. I think they made a good choice.

  5. Thanks to the help of Bonecollector I was able to get some Ulnmers and tried them our a couple of weeks ago. I tried shooting 5 different broadheads into my Rienhardt target. Please note, all I was testing was accuracy compared to my field points at 40 yards, not penetration, blade expansion, etc. I tried the following:

    Mechhnicals:

    Rage

    Ulmer Edge

    Swhacker

All three seemed to shoot pretty consistent with my field points. But I gave the edge to the Ulmers because I liked what seems to me to be a smaller more compact and stronger construction. The Ulmers do not open as easily as some of the others, but I don't think it would be a problem on an animal like an Elk or a deer.

    Fixed:

    Montec

    Slick Trick

I've had issues with Montecs shooting the same as my field points in the past. There was no improvement this time around. I was very impressed with Slick Trick which seemed to be dead on with my field points arrow after arrow.

    My winners:

Slick Trick & Ulmer Edge. I will probably rotate between the two depending on the animal I am hunting.

  6. />In my opinion, boots & clothes are the most important part of a hunting system, more so than your bow & even optics. If you don't stay warm & dry, you won't stay in the field, & most people don't kill much back at camp sitting by the fire trying to wam up.

That having been said, you can find great socks & base layers by shopping for mountaineering & backpacking gear online. I've always had a problem w/ cold feet, so last winter I picked up 2 pairs of -40 wool socks on Amazon for less than $20 (included shipping). there is a ton of stuff, both new & used, available on Ebay & Amazon for bargain prices compared to Cabelas or Bass Pro. Go to the big stores if you like to touch, feel & try on the products until you determine what you like, than go home & look for it online before you spend the money at the store. You can get a discount price, avoid paying 10% sales tax & also often get free shipping.

As for camos, I'm a fan of Sitka gear. It's expensive, buy I've had my same set of sitka camo for more than 5 years. Good gear can last a very long time.

+1 on Sitka gear. I don't yet own any, but I have heard and seen great things about it. Of the higher end/higher priced clothing, it is probably the only I would consider buying.

  7. This is the time of year where you will see places like Bass Pro and Cabela's offer some pretty good deals on camo clothing. Keep on eye on the ads on their websites. Bass Pro had a buy a jacket get the pants free deal but I think it ended yesterday. Some Walmarts will also have some decent camo stuff at pretty reasonable prices. Just don't get sucked into believing you need fancy name brand stuff like Under Armour. Name brands might serve you well in a night club, but the bucks and bulls don't care. The scent eliminating clothing can also be pretty pricey and IMO not worth the money. If you don't play the wind right, the most expensive scent eliminating clothing in the world won't help you.
