  1. I can't speak to the VLDs in a 243, but am currently having some trouble getting the groupings I would like out of VLDs in my 7mm-08 which is a very similar cartridge and uses mostly the same powders. I have been loading my 243 with Hornady V-Max 58 grains, as my 243 is primarily my varmint rifle. With these I am getting very nice 5 shot groupings that touch at 100 yards. I also really like R15 powder for this load. My load data for this is:

    • 43.4 gn. R15 powder
    • Federal primers
    • 58 gn Hornady V-Max

I was out at the range this morning shooting these through the chronograph since I just finalized this load. My average speed was 3555 fps.

    Hope this helps

  2. Hi All-

Thanks for your interest. As of now the generator is spoken for. I will meet the guy on Monday to show and finalize the sale. If he buys it I will remove the add. If you are interested in going on a back up list send me a PM.

    Thanks

I now have a wait list 5 deep. Thanks for all the interest and I will let you all know.

  3. Hi All-

A couple months ago I purchased a Tikka T3 Stainless 7mm-08. My wife is starting to show some interest in hunting and my oldest son will be of hunting age in a couple of years. I believe this will be a great elk/deer rifle for them. However, I have been working up some loads and thus far have been pretty disappointed with the results. All rounds have been loaded with:

    • Berger 140 VLDs
    • Federal Primers
    • R15 powder

My COAL is 2.183, which is my magazine max. My lands length is 2.280.

Thus far I have tried seven different powder weights and have yet to have a grouping I like. My personal definition of a good grouping is 3 bullets touching at 100 yards. This morning I was at the Rio Salado range and shot the following powder weights:

    • 40.5 gr
    • 41 gr
    • 41.5 gr
    • 42 gr

The groupings for these weights at 100 yards are shown below:

    R15 40.5.pdfR15 42.pdfR15 41.pdfR15 41.5.pdf

I have also previously tried the following powder weights with similar results:

    • 39 gr
    • 39.5 gr
    • 40 gr

Has anyone found a load they like in this caliber/bullet/rifle?

    Thanks!

  4. My father purchased this generator about a year ago to use with his business. I have the regular version of the EU2000i so he bought the more expensive companion (with the 30 amp face) and the cable so he could borrow mine and connect them if he ever needed more power. Since buying it he has only ever run it once for a few minutes when we connected them together to test the parallel power. Since then it has sat in his garage in it’s camo cover. He has asked me to help him sell it since he is not getting the use out of it he expected to. This sell is for his generator only, not the set. I would love to buy it myself but don’t have the funds or really any need for both.

If you have ever used, seen, or heard one of these you know they are an awesome camping/hunting companion, especially if taking the wife and kids. Very portable, light, quit, and easy on the gas!

Asking $850 for the generator, parallel cable, and cover. I’ll get some picture of the actual unit up tomorrow after I have had a chance to go by his house. (The one shown is one I found online of two connected)

    PM me with any questions.

    Thanks

    Sean

Update - I am at my dad's now checking it out. It started on the first pull and runs perfect. It even has some of the tags still on it. He was storing it next to some shop equipment and it got a couple of small cosmetic scuffs. I have a couple of guys already interested and am primarily posting these pictures for them. But feel free to inquire in case they don't take it.

    Thanks

  5. +1 on being late! This is one of many, 4 yrs ago I drew a really good elk tag (archery)in NM. We had locate some bulls that morning and decided to come back that evening. During the middle of the day we split up and agreed to meet up a SPECIFIC time. So I get there early(hey what a concept) hoping he would do the same so we could get set up. Well the time comes and... he's late. Screw it, so I head out. Turns out I get into a herd and the herd bull( a 340 class bull) is on fire!! He was stepping all over my calls! A LITTLE HELP WOULD BE NICE! Never closed the deal. So AFTER dark we meet back at camp. Dude! Where were you?! His response, "out hiking" WTF!!!!

    Brothers! What do you do......?

I'm just glad you didn't say planning a bear hunting trip and arranging time off from work, only to have my moron buddy screw up his knee in an ATV accident just before hand, thus screwing up the whole thing.

  6. I took the picture of this guy at Yellowstone Park's Bear World last year. So while it is not as cool as seeing him in the wild, I still thought it worth sharing. Wouldn't mind crossing paths with one like this in season with tag in hand!

I took this picture in late June. Imagine this guy with another couple months of growth!

  7. Thanks all, I really appreciate the info! I recently got a chronogragh to add to my reloading tools collection. I decided to check my bow speed this morning expecting something around 290-300 fps. Sounds like the 270 I am seeing is pretty normal.

I'll be doing my first archery coues hunt here in a few weeks and I'm just trying to fine tune and prepare as much as possible. You advice helps a ton!

  8. 350 grain arrows plus 125 grain head? It would be very hard to get a 29 and 1/2 inch arrow with a 125 grain head to weigh 350. When they say 350 grain arrow, they mean 350 including the tip. I shoot a bow that says IBO of 310 and I shoot right around 270. Totally normal. Funny thing is, if you read most company's warranty, if you shoot the same set up as they do when they get the IBO, you will void your warranty. Most bows want you to shoot atleast 5.5 grains of arrow per pound of pull weight. i.e 70 lbs should shoot atleast a 385 grain arrow.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't including the field point. I threw the arrow with tip on my loading scale and got a weight of 430.7
