A few weeks ago Cabelas sent out a coupon set to expire on 7/15 for $50 off of $500. I think my wife may have thrown mine away. Does anyone out there still have it and not have any plan to use it? If so, would you be willing to share it? Please and thank you?

Thanks! I was worried that I'd miss the sale on the item I wanted, and Leupold is apparently discontinuing it. I found a $500 gift card for $440, so while it would have been nice to add a coupon on top of that, at least it got me most of the way there. I bought the gift card, the code came 5 minutes later. I bought the scope with the gift card, and it'll be here next week. Done and done.

I know, it's a pretty specific request, but I know what I want. Apparently I sat on my thumbs for too long because Leupold appears to be selling this scope only in Windplex reticle now, which I find ugly and distracting. So, I'm willing to look at the used market to find one. I've never bought a used scope before, so here goes nothing...please PM me or respond here with what you have. PS - I'm told that, despite what thr Leupold literasure say, the VX2, like the VX3, comes with a CDS turret certificate. If that's true, and your VX2 still has the certificate, then that would be a plus.

bump with new package -
True, I mean I do still sometimes secretly hope that Cindy Crawford will come prancing my into my bedroom some night, or that one of these years the Suns may actually win a title; but then there is a better chance of BOTH those things happening than of me drawing a sheep tag! Time to update your supermodel fantasy. You're aging yourself. She's old enough to be Kate Upton's mother...and a grandmother.
-
I'm interested. Where are you located?
-
Last year the update deadline was July 6. They hit the cards on July 9. For the elk draw this year the deadline to update was March 12. They hit cards on March 20.

I have an offer to buy just the 243 barrel, but I'm only going to go through with it if I can sell the rest of the package. So, it's still available for the listed price, BUT, if you can't bring yourself to drop the dough on the whole thing, then I am now offering the frame, 50 cal barrel, 223 barrel, and both forends for $550. These guns are awesome. I'll meet up so you can feel it in your hands before you commit. -

To illustrate how well it handles, here's a photo of my wife's little sister who was 14 when she drew a combination muzzleloader deer/javelina tag a few years back. We spent several months teaching her to shoot with the 223 barrel until she was comfortable with the rifle. When it came time for the hunt we put the muzzleloader barrel on and hit the hills. The deer didn't cooperate, but when we glassed up a herd of javelina two drainages over, she carried that gun up and down across the desert for two miles. She dropped the biggest boar at 150 yards, shooting it right through the front shoulders (the extra blood you see at the rear is from processing). She never hesitated, never flinched, and was able to get the gun solidly against her shoulder, all because of the practice with the other barrel and the good overall balance of the Apex. -
That's true. Of the 10 non-resident tags available last year, not a single one went in the bonus pass. All of them were drawn in the 1/2 round, meaning no need for max points. In fact, non-residents without max points brew both a 44BN tag and a 27/28 rocky tag.

I'd like the CFE223.
-
Told you. The "v" means that the post 1978 recall work was done in it.
-
Look up Stray Horse. He snatches these things up whenever they get posted. I know, because I was trying to get one for some time. The one I ended up with isn't nearly that pretty and I paid a bit more. Does the trigger have a "v" stamped on it?

This won't last an hour.

I was able to keep the 223 at around an inch at 100 yards, but I never really did much load development with that barrel. I had the muzzleloader doing 3.5 inches at 200 yards with harvester sabots and 250 gr tipped barnes. -
Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???
1uglydude replied to Big Browns's topic in Youth Hunters
On a related note (not saying this is your situation), I have a neighbor who has recently taken an interest in hunting. I took him javelina hunting last year and he had a blast. He has two sons, ages 12 and 15. I decided to make the offer to have them try out a junior deer hunt this fall. The 12 year old, who loves anything and everything outdoors jumped at the chance and was super excited. The 15 year old hesitated and asked if we would be staying in a hotel at night where he could set up his Xbox. I told him that we probably wouldn't even have cell service where we'd be. He shot down the offer just as fast as the other one accepted, to his father's dismay. His father's advice to me "never ever allow a video game system in your home, it was the worst mistake I ever made." Noted. -

I agree 100%; I've never seen everyone agree on a topic. It's really nice to see for a change:) I have to admit I still don't 100% agree with forcing kids to take hunter safety at age 10 in order to hunt big game. Yes, yes, yes we all agree that hunter safety is a great class and it helps teach safety and other important lessons. Let's be very clear, I do plan on forcing my kids to take the class. The problem is because I have to force my kids to take the class they have both lost interest or the drive to go hunting! This is very depressing, because I love to hunt. I want nothing more than to share my passion of hunting with my kids. I'm worried that my kids will not want anything to do with hunting, because they were forced to take a class. I'm sure they will want to go as long as they enjoy the class, but if they don't I'm concerned they will lose interest. Adam Don't take this the wrong way, but if your kids lose interest in hunting because they had to spend a handful of evenings sitting through a class where they talk about guns, shooting, processing animals, outdoor survival skills, and ethics...then you probably didn't have much hope of them having long term interest in hunting anyways. -
One of my comments during the open houses on the portal system was that one of the overall improvements they need to make is to allow for amendments to applications. One of the reasons people wait so long to apply for the draw is because they want to wait just a little longer to ensure nothing happens that is going to screw up their choices: broken bones, illnesses, fires in the area they want to hunt, etc. If they want to encourage people to apply early, then let them amend their applications as a reward. My suggestion was if you apply at least two weeks before the deadline, perhaps you could give guys up until a week after the deadline to go back and make amendments (but not to cancel). I'd see that as a huge incentive to get my application in early, and it would have saved me the year that my brother broke his femur two days after I put him in for the draw.
-
Or people who don't look at the data to realize which hunts they have absolutely no chance at all of drawing without max points. But, as long as thousands of sheep hunters unknowingly throw away their hunt choices each year, it keeps the odds just slightly better for those who pay attention.

The Deadline is in... What did you put in for?
1uglydude replied to DeerCraver's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You are guaranteed to draw that 34A tag, so you'll be deer hunting. If you weren't, your third through fifth choices wouldn't have got you anything. None of those hunts have any tags left to go into the 3-5 pass of the draw. Since you're new to big game, you may want to read up on some of the "how the draw works" tutorials. Thank you for the advice. 20a had a 57% last year 36b was over 90% and 19a 65% are those a bit too ambitious? Those are the odds for people who put those hunts as their first or second choice. For people who listed them as third, fourth, or fifth choices the odds were 0%. So, yes.
