  1. Don't get the original Axis. Get the new Axis II. You can find it on buds for like $341 with a scope. Unlike the original Axis, the Axis II has the Accutrigger, which is a HUGE difference from the very heavy trigger used on the Axis. You're probably seeing the original Axis on sale because they're trying to clear them out.

    2015 Draw

To you second point, your license must be valid on the draw deadline. In most years, the deadline for the any particular draw in following year falls 364 days from the last deadline for the same draw. So, yes, in most years, a careful and in the know non-resident could squeeze two of the same draws out of the same license. If they are applying for both deer and elk, then it doesn't really make a difference because they will just have to buy a license between the two, but if they are only applying for deer, then they could make that happen. Of course, that would also mean that they would have to rely on being able to submit an application at the very end of the draw, and as we have seen, there very well may be technical difficulties doing so. An extension of a draw deadline because of those difficulties wouldn't help them if they wanted to try to double dip on the old license.

    Processor Recommendation in Payson?

Who closed up shop in Payson between last year and this year? Jeremy was already gone by then, so now you have me worried it's one of the guys I like to use.

    Bighorn wish

Ranching uses are specifically protected under the Federal Land Policy Management Act, which govern the use of the national forests. Don't forget that the forest service is a branch of the USDA. Hunting and fishing are not specifically protected uses on national forest lands. They almost were, but the Sportsmans bill got shot down a few months ago because Ted Cruz and some of the other congressional extremists got greedy and tried to amend the heck out of it to satisfy their political agendas. Also, from what I recall from my training on federal land use, it's perfectly legal (and in fact mandatory) for the service or BLM to allow the continued use of grazing rights in areas that have since been designated wilderness (which, practically speaking, is all wilderness area because grazing was going on pretty much everywhere long before anyone even thought of designating wilderness).

I think we are quite lucky Az has so much public land

Except that those pushing to have the state take control are motivated by desires to develop and sell off those large swaths. The state isn't going to manage those lands without some way to pay for that management.

Congrats on the bull. That's pretty specific on the weight. How were you able to determine that?

    Beware of Sonoran Outfitters!

Very interesting. I get something similar when you run my name...it lists my wife and her maiden name as an "alias" for me. I have never gone by "Annie," so they probably just pull the info from documents on which we both appear (i.e. mortgages, accounts, corporate filings, etc.). I would bet Tracey is his wife's name.

    Beware of Sonoran Outfitters!

Because Frank R. Pollard runs an internet marketing business out of Flagstaff, Arizona. One would assume that Mr. Rice has hired him to try to curtail some of the online discussion about his reputation, or lack thereof.

    Spring Hunts

If you got your license as part of the spring draw, then it would be good from Jan 1 to Dec 31. Your 365 days just happens to also match up with the calendar year. You need only have a license that is valid on the day of the draw deadline. So, for instance my father in law has a license that doesn't expire until late February. We can use that license to apply for the elk draw. If he doesn't draw, then he doesn't have to buy another license unless he wants to put in for the fall draw or hunt something else. If he does draw an elk tag, then all he has to do is buy a new license at some point before the hunt so that he has a valid license in his possession. It would make the most sense to wait until just before the hunt to do that so you get the most life out of it. For people who only put in for the elk draw or the fall draw, you have the potential to be able to get two draw cycles out of one license in some years. For example, the 2015 elk draw deadline will be February 10th. If you buy a license on that day and enter the draw, then it will be good through February 9, 2016. It just so happens that the draw deadline in 2016 will be February 9th. For those folks who wouldn't buy a new license unless they were drawn, it can work out nicely for them.

    Bushnell tanks

In the words of the MRD engineer "we were sick of lawsuits from people getting killed in there and the fire was only going to make it worse, so we decided that it should stay closed. In my experience, most hunters actually like it that way."

    Barnes 7mm 168gr LRX - partial box (40 of 50) - $15

Send me a PM and we can work out details for handing it off. I don't make it down to Casa Grande very often, but maybe we can find an intermediary.
  25. Took a risk on these and it bit us in the butt. Barnes states that you need a 1:9 twist to stabilize. I called and spoke to the techs and they gave me a 50/50 chance of getting them to work in a 1:9.25 twist if we loaded them near max. Well it didn't work for us. They tumbled like a fat lady on a treadmill. These would work well in a custom gun with a proper twist. Hoping to recoup $15 of the $43 spent on them.
