In my mind there is hunting, killing and down right murder. Hunting is when you work your butt off for an animal, no matter how big the bones are. Killing is like this guy did, and murder is like resting your rifle on some fence post shooting something in a pen like Uncle Billy's dried up milk cow or a canned hunt if you will.

Heat mirage and hot barrel on accuracy

When was the last time the barrel was cleaned with some sort of copper removing agent? -
Just ordered the book! Thanks!

The book that I read was also signed. I think that there were so few books printed that they were all signed.

I read a book a few years back about the Lee brothers, who hunted lions in southern AZ. In the book it mentioned when the last Grizzly was taken in AZ, but I can't remember the year. This is the book, just googled it up. I don't think I'll be buying a copy soon.

Heat mirage and hot barrel on accuracy

If they were grouping and now there not, something is wrong. I would check all the screws, action , scope rings and bases. -

Nice Deer! Personally I got tired of tag soup, so I sauteed mine in butter, a little garlic and a splash of OJ. -
Sounds like you went from one extreme to the other. The very last thing you want to do is to get a case stuck in your die (been there done that). Imperial is about as good as it gets. You haven't mentioned it but you might think about lubing the inside case mouth with something if you are using a resizer die with an expander ball, also you will need to tumble or vibrate your brass afterward to get the lube out of the inside of the case. Some use some sort of graphite, but I never have. Different strokes for different folks, but one thing for sure is be consistent with every procedure, if you do it for one do it for all, ie cleaning the primer pockets, ect, ect.

I was sitting a water hole in a southern unit on a early rifle hunt a few years ago and it was hot, does were coming into the water like planes into Sky Harbour, they would take their time getting a drink, one even got into the water passed her knees. Two small 3 pointers came in and I just sat there wondering which one if any to shoot and bam they were gone. So I thought I would try it again the next day. A doe and her fawn came in and was acting really nervous, got a drink and left, nothing else. I walked down to the water hole after a couple of hours and there was cat tracks all around the water. I often wish that I had been a little quicker on one of those bucks.

Since that other .280 went fairly quick, let's try this one. Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 Rem. 22 inch barrel. I bought this gun used, so the round count is unknown. I have around 60-70 rounds down the tube, bedded, trigger job. Disclaimer- this gun shoots lights out the first two shots, they are often touching, but with the pencil thin barrel, the third shot usually opens up. The gun is near perfect other than the foreend tip. The group pictured is the best 3 shot group that I was able to get. Comes with Talley rings. 700.00 FTF.

Heat mirage and hot barrel on accuracy

If anyone is interested in learning the basics of shooting in conditions this book is a good place to start. Also pick up a couple tips on shooting! His web site has these books about 10 bucks cheaper than Amazon. He has another book also, but I found that it's more about selling his rifle than shooting. -

The first question I would ask is what kind of magnification do you have on your scope? If it is relatively low you were probably picking up heat mirage off your barrel. Warm day, warm barrel and you keep putting rounds down range probably not the best for shooting good groups. If you have a scope that has a lot of magnification, you could be picking up barrel heat and mirage down range. On a hot day let the barrel cool and turn your magnification down. If you are seeing mirage down range and the waves are going straight up, you are seeing what's known as a boil, most competitive shooters if they have time will wait for the mirage to start moving one way or another before they fire their round. Mirage can be a good indicator of what the wind is doing with a bullet on its way to your target. Some people read the mirage at their target, but doing that your bullet is already there. I usually try to read it about half way to the target. Long story short the mirage off your barrel could have messed with your group, shooting a high BC .264 bullet probably didn't affect your group too much at 200, unless the mirage was bouncing around left right and if you shot in a boil. Just my two cents. -

Next time the Sirrus subscription is going to run out give them a call and tell them you want to cancel, they will make all kind of deals. My wife and I are on one account for 115.00 for a year.

My buds dad was a Yaqui Indian, so I don't think his name was Otis. Everyone has some sort of a demon that they have to face, weather it be booze, drugs, gambling, so on and so on. Sometimes we can keep the demon at bay and sometimes it gets us and won't let go. One time I ask my friend what happened to his dad, and he said that one time he took off, and never came back.
