I certainly respect his service. The issues that I had with the man is although he was a Republican, he could have been a closet Democrat, and when he was sick, I didn't see him being treated at a VA hospital.

A Monk entered a Monistary, taking a vow of silence. On his 1 year anniversary the Monsignor said to the Monk that he would be allowed to speak two words. The Monk said Food Bad. Again on his second year the Monsignor said to the Monk that he would be allowed to speak two words. The Monk said Bed Hard. Shortly after the Monsignor was told that the Monk had slipped away during the night. The Monsignor replied Its no wonder, all he did was complain. -
Things change! When I was a kid, you started off with a BB gun, then a .22 if you showed that you could safely handle the BB gun, then a center fire rifle. Now days I see guys with their kids barley out of square pants shooting their 300 RUMS. I've never listened to a podcast, nor have I hung a camera in the woods, but it doesn't bother me if someone else does. By the way there was some old timers when I was a kid, who didn't think that using a scope on a rifle was sporting.

What rifle caliber is most common for coues deer hunting in AZ?
10Turkeys replied to THREEDFLYER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
One of the three sisters .270, .280, or 30-06. Probably go with the .270. -
Last Fall I was at Ben Avery and there was a film crew on the Silhouette range, just packing up. One of the guys said that they were filming a commercial for Berger Bullets, showing the bullet going through the bullseye at slow motion. I imagine it would have shown on one of the outdoor channels, which I don't get. Anyone Seen it? Tried to find it on YouTube and didn't.

Any thoughts on the Winchester 101 ?

A rifle will give you A little play with how it fits you, a shotgun won't. The old line is if a Beretta won't fit you, a Browning will. -
Another thing, I've seen some Whitetail in the same elevations as Mule Deer in 27, wouldn't want to mix them up.

Maybe to just have one more hunt with the 3 other guys that I used to hunt with, two of them quit because of their age. Or to have one more hunt with my Uncle, who started me shooting, hunting and fishing.

In 1979, a time when only ho's and drunken sailors had tattoos, I staggered into a shop wanting to get the invasion of Normandy tattooed on my back, but I had a grand total of six dollars on me, so I settled for this. Moral of the story don't go cheap and your tattoo is going to fade with age.

I have that rifles twin. I was gifted it from a friend. The story of the gun is that they were sold out of someplace in Texas (if my memory is working) as the World's most accurate gun. Upon receiving the rifle and shooting it, my buddy realized that it wasn't that accurate at all, he wrote the guy who was selling the rifles and said that the rifle that he had sold to him wasn't that accurate. He got a letter back from the guy who simply said Well sue me. Mine is a plain ol 98 action stamped Mark V, and 25-06 is stamped on the barrel, very faintly.

No don't think that's him, but the guy on the right in this pic is. Taken in 2002 at the Whittington Center in Raton, NM. -
I pretty much leave my spotting scope on 20x, big enough field of view and picks up mirage.
-
I've used IMR-4350 with good results in 4 different rifles, but using a 150gr bullet.
-
I think anything above 15 would pick up mirage on a warmer day, just my opinion.

A friend of mine was having a conversation with none other than Lones Wigger, he was telling Wiggs how well his gun shot(.22 custom), Wigger finally said to him, I don't think your gun shoots that well, or I would have heard of you! I believe someone stated in an old thread that they would bet 1000.00 on one shot at a thousand with steel the size of a Coues heart lung area. I don't think there was any takers. -
Seen a lot of does around the house, but this evening finally saw some bucks.

I was watching Johnny Carson one night and Carl Sagan was the guest, he was likening an animal's extinction with screws holding an airplane together in flight, loose one or two no big deal, loose a bunch in big trouble, I get that. IMHO those Condores can go back to Cali, carrying a Democrat liberal on each wing, with the stipulation that if they fall off, the bird has to come back and pick up two more.

Another thing to think about before you build a custom gun, is what is going to happen if life slaps you around a little bit and you have to sell it? And are you sure that is what you want, something is going to come along that's faster, better or cooler. That gun that you just sunk all that cash into, isn't going to sell for what you put into it, right away anyway. The big thing is that animal that you just dropped isn't going to know the difference between a custom and one off the rack. Just my two cents. -
I was 12, it was summer and it wasn't about fishing, so didn't care to much.

Also Arizona Outlaws and Lawman by Marshall Trimble, good book especially about Jim Roberts. The Notorious Luke Short, he was a lawman in Dodge City with Earp and Masterson, didn't get a lot of press but he was a killer. There is a plaque outside of the Oriental Saloon in Tombstone where he killed Charlie Storms.

Just finished Arizona's Deadliest Gunfight, about the gunfight at the Power cabin in 1918, good book. Jack O'Connors books are worth a read. Jim Carmichaels books are good.
