Anyone else have "cheap" rifles that shoot stupid accurate?
10Turkeys replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Another thing to think about before you build a custom gun, is what is going to happen if life slaps you around a little bit and you have to sell it? And are you sure that is what you want, something is going to come along that's faster, better or cooler. That gun that you just sunk all that cash into, isn't going to sell for what you put into it, right away anyway. The big thing is that animal that you just dropped isn't going to know the difference between a custom and one off the rack. Just my two cents. -
I was 12, it was summer and it wasn't about fishing, so didn't care to much.

Also Arizona Outlaws and Lawman by Marshall Trimble, good book especially about Jim Roberts. The Notorious Luke Short, he was a lawman in Dodge City with Earp and Masterson, didn't get a lot of press but he was a killer. There is a plaque outside of the Oriental Saloon in Tombstone where he killed Charlie Storms.

Just finished Arizona's Deadliest Gunfight, about the gunfight at the Power cabin in 1918, good book. Jack O'Connors books are worth a read. Jim Carmichaels books are good.

I have a Casio that I picked up from Wal-Mart, with tax and everything it was probably under thirty bucks. It's kind of a pain though when the Navy calls me when their Atomic clock is off and they are looking for the correct time.

Just got a email from the Globe-Miami Gun Club, they are having a hunter ed class the first week in Aug, with the range day on Sunday Aug 5th.

It appears that Midway and Cheaper than dirt has loaded ammo. A few shooters use that cartridge for lever action silhouette.

Bartlein barrels are considered the best right now, last I heard it was a six month wait for one. Shilen you can order one from the factory, or usually Midway or Brownells carry them. Might want to get on either website and find out what contour and twist you want before you order, a number 3 or 4 contour Shilen might be close to a 3 or 4 Bartlein, maybe not. I've never been disappointed in a Kreiger.

Usually when something like that happens, there is something loose somewhere, check to see if everything is tight.

Sears Model 53 Good for a Donor?
10Turkeys replied to Elk Reaper's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you can, take a pic of the action, partically the rear bolt. -
Number is probably someone's drivers license number. A few used to etch theirs into things in case of theft.

Sears Model 53 Good for a Donor?
10Turkeys replied to Elk Reaper's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I believe the Sears 53 was rebranded a Winchester 670. I have a friend that has one in a 30-06 that shoots well. If I was going to do a build, it would probably be off a 700 or 70 action. -
I was going S. on the 101 about 9am. Parts of it got hit pretty hard.

An acquaintance of my ex wife was telling me that in his mid teens his Dad left the family, in order to help the family put some meat on the table, he would help himself to a deer ever now and again. Well one time he said that he shot this doe in the neck and thought she was dead, he threw her in the back of his truck, and as he was driving through town, everybody was pointing at him and laughing, he looked in his mirror and the deer was standing up in the back of his truck. That is being busted. This happened in a small town in Texas by the way. My thoughts are this, poaching is poaching, but doing it to feed your family is one thing, doing it to show off the bones is another.

If these charges are true, I know we as sportsmen would like to see this guy strung up, but as already stated previously this guy could end up walking with no charges. Wouldn't be fair, but fair is where a farmer takes his pig for a blue ribbon.

You can do them Korean style. Or Kalbi. 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of minced garlic, 1/8 cup coca-cola, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds, chopped green onion. This is for roughly one pound of meat, marinate for at least an hour.

Help me decide on a new lightweight stock for my 700
10Turkeys replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
I have the Bell and Carlson Alaskan Ti stock on a Rem 700 LA, weighs 2lbs 1.4 oz, haven't shot it in this configuration, but had another barreled action in it and it shot quite well. You can take a look at the stock in the classifieds under safe sitters. -
Ruger Number 1, Rem 7mm Mag, 26 inch bartel, comes with a Redfield 3x9 scope, minor scratches, I bought this gun used so no idea of round count. Haven't played with this gun much, best I got out of it was about 1 1/2. 700.00 Next is a Remington 700, 30-06, 22 inch barrel, it's in a Bell and Carlson Alaskan stock, bought the Remington barreled action and put it in the stock, never shot it, don't have any idea how it shoots. 600.00
